Supercharge your compatible Mac Pro with the OWC 32TB Accelsior 4M2 PCIe NVMe SSDfrom OWC / Other World Computing. Ready to meet your data-intensive, high-bandwidth needs, the Accelsior 4M2 installs into a full-height, half-length x8 or x16 PCIe 3.0 or 2.0 slot and uses 3D TLC synchronous NAND flash memory with advanced SLC caching and a Phison E12 controller. All these elements combine to deliver sequential read and write speeds of up to 6318 and 6775 MB/s respectively.

Accelsior 4M2 comes with SoftRAID software to help you manage your data. You can maximize drive space, get the fastest access speeds, and protect against drive failure with plug-and-play simplicity. SoftRAID's easy setup makes it a breeze to create RAID volumes, walking you through the process of customizing the speed and redundancy settings of your data volume.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Would this work inside a QNAP TVS1282T?

A: No, it is not compatible.

Q: 2. The fastest slot I have available is a PCIe x4. Will this work and how serious a reduction in performance should I expect if it does?

A: The Accelsior is an x4 card, so unless it is PCIe 2.0, I would expect no slow downs at all.

Q: 3. Does this support Ubuntu? and can i pair two or three of this with software raid on linux?

A: The OWC Accelsior 4M2 NVMe SSD Enclosure supports Linux kernel versions 5.4 and higher, but the SoftRAID software it comes with only supports Windows 10 and higher or MacOS 10.12 and higher.

Q: 4. What raid configuration does it come with by default? Is the listed space the usable space or the space before you set up the raid?

A: The OWC 8TB Accelsior 4M2 comes unformatted and must be initialized using the SoftRaid software.

Q: 5. Does this utilize the speed of NVMe?

A: yes with Sequential Read Speed 6318 MB/s

Q: 6. Is this compatible with Windows 10 PCs assuming the computer has the necessary PCIe slot?

A: Yes.

Q: 7. THIS HARD DRIVE WORKS with the Mac Pro rack 2023?

A: Yes, the OWC 16TB Accelsior 4M2 PCIe M.2 NVMe SSD is compatible with a 2023 Mac Pro computer.

Q: 8. Why do you advertise the Mac Pro 5,1 when it only has PCIe 2.0 and your product uses PCIe 3.0?

A: Because the 4M2 is backwards compatible with PCIe 2.0. Of course the speeds are reduced, but it works perfectly in the 5,1.

Q: 9. Is this card works with Mac Pro 2019?

A: Yes, it works in the 2019 Mac Pro.

Q: 10. Does this have 8 lanes or 16 lanes on the PCI bus?

A: 8 lanes.

[32 TB] Bought this to use as a 16TB RAID5 drive, and I have been thrilled with it. The install and set up was a breeze, the software was simple and clear to use, and it has increased my transfer speeds massively. Can't recommend enough.

[Full Height] So far so good. Purchased a new base model Mac Pro 2019 and installed this in a 16x PCIe 3.0 slot in a striped raid for speed. I get an average of 5000MB/sec read and write. Slight issues installing which required a call to OWC tech support. They were very helpful and it was a known issue. So expect to do that. Otherwise working well!

[Yes, RAID 5/0/1] This enclosure does the job in adding 4 M.2 blades in a very small footprint. Display port added bonus. Cable included.

[Full Height] This is a 5 Star item but you need to read my review as I learned a few things about installing and using this.

First, this is very, very easy to install in the older Mac Pro Towers and from what I have seen, even easier in the 2019 Mac Pro Tower. It literally plugs in and is good to go.

BUT, there is software that comes with this card and the activation key is on a sticker on the card so you need to write it down or, like me, you will be disassembling your Mac to take a shot of the code.

ALSO, this card DOES NOT support the APFS format which, in my case, is the format of my startup disk meaning that I was not able to use it as a startup.

SO, it goes so much faster than my current 2010 Hackintosh Mac Pro can take advantage of BUT when I get my new 2019 Mac Pro, I will be able to simply take this out of my current Mac and insert it and use it in the new one where it will save lots of time and $$$.

The SoftRAID software works very well once you use the provided activation code.

One last thing. This card heats up which was surprising to me as I have several SSDs and they hardly get warm. So, I am taking the precaution and turning my computer off when I won't be using it for more than a few hours instead of simply putting it to sleep.

One more last thing. I did get to work with OWC support and they were very easy to chat with, handled my problem quickly and I found out that there is no need to register the device as I believe your serial number or invoice will give them a date to use and the warranty is good for up to 5 years.

I am planning on using it for longer than that.

[Full Height] Love it, just wished it would mount faster on the desktop. I have my dropbox in it and sometime when I reboot the computer DB can't find it(because it didn't mount yet) and causes some issues. So I turn on DB manually now.

[Yes, RAID 5/0/1] Arrived in less than 24hrs, Install is super easy and the read/write speeds you get are incredible. Make sure to slot it into a x16 PCIe slot. I initially had it in a x8 and was getting 4000mbs so the x16 helped get it up to 5500mbs.

[Yes, RAID 5/0/1] I use my unit to edit, I have installed in Mac Pro 2019 PCIe slot. Back Magic Speed test is 4800mb/s read and write. When I'm editing full 4K at full res no dropped frames, very speedy render speeds also in Premiere. A caveat, you have to change security settings in Mac's with T2 cards. They will prohibit raid 0 functions. But after a call to tech support and a few changes to the settings all is well.

[Full Height] mechanical drives are slow. I deal with large libraries and large files that are difficult to move around. This drive saves me so much time and makes my life so much more productive. You have to figure out a solid methodology first and follow a protocol. I do all my work off 2 SSD solutions and then at the end I move it to a mechanical drive (2 actually - one is main storage and the other is a mirror for those OHSHI moments). I use a script to move the items so life is carefree.

I did run the speed test software and you get what they say. Just wish that I could get more than 8TB as an option.

Somethings you regret buying. This isn't one of them.

[Full Height] I placed 4X2Tb Samsung 970 Pro NVME Ssd's in this thing. It rocks at over 2100Mbps (RAID 0). Some say the fan is noisy. Not my sample, it is quiet and the unit never feels hot. I had ordered a silent fan for it based on the reviews that said was noisy. Maybe OWC changed the fans they were using?

[Yes, RAID 5/0/1] The physical drive itself is great.
I really like the SoftRAID software it comes with but it has two issues:

You have to completely disable Apple's T2 chip security feature for SoftRAID to install its driver. I believe if they worked with Apple, Apple could sign the driver and allow it to be installed with the T2 chip setting allowing T2 security turned on with SoftRAID driver. A fix may be on the way for that.

Second, the RAID drive does not show up on the About this Mac Storage status. Not a big deal.

Otherwise SoftRAID is very easy to use, clear graphical user interface. It is what Apple's RAID setup should be.

So far I have had no need to use it to rebuild/recover a RAIDed drive. Therefore I can give no feedback.

This is being used on a 2019 Mac Pro.
