Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does it have these known black corners, or can you see the whole image?

A: This lens will have a rectangular field of view. There will not be obvious vignetting in the corners of the image.

Q: 2. Hi there, will this lens work for Sony Alpha 7 ? Thanks

A: This lens is designed for APS-C sensor cameras. The A7 is full frame. This lens would produce a cropped image on a full frame Sony camera.

Q: 3. Does this work with the Fuji X100F?

A: The Fuji X100F would be a point and shoot camera with a fixed lens. This lens only works on Fuji X series mirrorless cameras like the X-T3.

Q: 4. Is lens hood removable?

A: No but it can be machined off then it's called a shaved lens.

Q: 5. Work with Canon 60D?

A: The Samyang 8mm f/2.8 Fisheye II Lens for Canon EF-M Mount is not compatible with the 60D. You would need a lens with a Canon EF mount.

Q: 6. What is the lens diameter?

A: The Schneider 21017528 2/3" 4.8mm f/1.8 C-Mount Cinegon Compact Lens, Manual Focus, Manual Iris, Ring Lock dimensions are 1.6 x 1.4" / 41 x 37.3mm. So it is 1/4" / 37.3mm in diameter.

Q: 7. Does this lens has the usual fisheye heavy barrel distortion or is it rectilineal like the Voigtlnder 12mm?

A: Well, it's an extremely wide angle lens, so yes, it does distort the image and no, it's not rectilinear. That said, the projection is not a pure fisheye ... it's more of a stereographic graphic projection meaning that it has less of a pronounced central bulge to the image and things look a bit more natural. For a pretty good discussion of the lens and the projection, check out the review from a site called admiring light . I'm not the author of the review and have no relationship with the site, but found it while researching the lens for myself. There's are reviews of the both the old and new version of the lens. I found it very useful when I was considering my own purchase ... and BTW ... I love the lens. :) Definitely a special use item, but a lot of fun to shoot with. And very well built.

Q: 8. I want to use this lens on my A6500 in my water housing and am not sure if it is going to fit in the port. Do you know if the dimensions given in the specifications for the length measure to the end of the lens hood? Thank you

A: The length of the lens to the top of the hood is 3 1/8".

Q: 9. Does this lens have autofocus?

A: No, it is a manual lens

Q: 10. Is this a fisheye lens?

A: The SLR Magic 8mm f/4 Lens is a wide-angle but not a fisheye lens. This lens has a 108° angle of view, while a fisheye lens has a 180° angle of view.

[f/1.8] Used this lens with a Marshall CV500-M2. Gave me exactly the viewing frame I needed for a fixed shot of the pulpit at our church.

[Fixed] I have a range of these Marshal lenses now. (3.0 to 16mm) All seem clearer than the stock ones you get with most security cameras. This lens is the widest you can go on a Lorex 6050 without the IR shield rounding the corners.

[Fixed] The lens is actually much larger and different than the one shown in the image. Roughly 1in diameter at its largest, and roughly 2in long. Fits with the 12mm screw mounts found on most board cameras. I am using this lens to help capture images of vehicles that leave my cul-de-sac as protection for our neighborhood. So far, I've had decent success at reading licence plates during the day-time after the image was recorded to a DVR. Vehicles are roughly 150ft away from the camera. I've not tested if the lens works well in IR light or not. The lens and camera easily fit inside an electrical junction box, shooting though the hole of a knockout in the Jbox.

[Fixed Focus] I have a range of these Marshal lenses now. (3.0 to 16mm) All seem clearer than the stock ones you get with most security cameras. The telephoto lenses you usually see for these cameras seem to be about 12mm so this one gives you that bit more reach when you need it.

[8mm] Used it to take a panoramic image, works as specs indicate

[1/2.7"] The 4MM lens gives a better view than the 8MM. I'm using the Arecont Vision AV20275DL to get a 180 view of areas of a park. The smaller lens gives up distance for a better wider viewing angle. I've tested the 2.8, 4, 6 and 8mm, the 4mm seems to be the sweet spot. These are OEM lenses and worked perfectly as a substitution for the 8MM.
