Phase Plant from Kilohearts is a modular-style plug-in software synthesizer that functions as host software for the company's Snapin series of plug-ins. The flexible system offers sound generators in four varieties including Analog, Sample, Wavetable, and Noise which can then be filtered and processed with built-in modules and Snapin plug-ins. The free version of Kilohearts Toolbox with six Snapins is included, and many more are available for purchase separately.

Phase Plant is compatible with most DAW software operating on the AU, AAX, and VST2 platforms and opens up an enormous vista of sound sculpting possibilities. The synth's flexible but intuitive routing system provides you with a variety of oscillator, sample player, filter, and effect modules in the generator pane, which you can then process in effect lanes using Snapin plug-ins. The modulation pane offers a vast array of modulation options, and almost all the parameters in Phase Plant and in the Snapins can be modulated. Macros can be created for external automation within your host DAW.

The software provides a large library of presets to get you started, all of which are fully functional. You must own (have a license for) the effect plug-in to alter the parameters for that effect. The system allows you to share presets with friends and collaborators, so you can collaborate easily. If you're ready to explore exciting modular synthesizer possibilities, Phase Plant might be the perfect fit for your digital workflow.

  • Phase Plant currently offers four signal generators; Analog, Wavetable, Sample, and Noise. More generators are being developed for future free updates. You can add as many as you like and route them freely between each other. There are also several utility modules to allow you even greater freedom in designing your sounds such as groups, mixing, and aux options.
  • For each generator group you can add an output module to send the sound to an effects lane, master, or sideband. You can also use a group purely as an audio rate modulation source for any other generator.
  • That’s right, Phase Plant allows for frequency modulation between all types of signal generation; FM from A to Z.

  • Snapins are regular VST/AU plug-ins that you can use for a multitude of purposes. They come in a bunch of different flavors, and Kilohearts is creating more all the time.
  • The unique thing about the Snapin series is that they also work as modular effect pieces that you can combine in our Snapin host plug-ins.
  • Phase Plant includes the free version of the Kilohearts Toolbox set with 6 Snapin plug-ins, including 3-band EQ, Chorus, Delay, Limiter, Gain, and Stereo to get you started.
  • The three effects lanes in Phase Plant allow you to load the easy-to-use Snapins from the Kilohearts ecosystem as building blocks within your Phase Plant patches. In true modular fashion, you simply add and configure the Snapins you need and mix the lanes individually.
  • Don’t miss that Poly toggle at the top of each lane. This enables per-voice processing, applying all the effects in that lane to each voice individually, even giving each voice unique random values from the Random modulator.

  • Additional presets, wavetables, samples, and LFO shapes for Phase Plant.
  • Presets that include Snapins that you don't own will still work, but you can't adjust the parameters unless you have the license for that plug-in.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this gimbal work out of the box or does it require activation over the internet via an Android/iPhone app?

A: The Manfrotto MVG300XM Modular Gimbal (B&H# MAMVG300XM) is able to work right out of the box without activation. The manual takes you through the procedure (which does not require the app for use): https://bit.ly/3M3opAJ

Q: 2. How can I mount an external monitor on the gimbal?

A: I recommend using a handle like the DigitalFoto Solution Limited MINI L Bracket Handle with Cold Shoe Mounts for Smartphone/Camera Gimbal (BH #DIMINI), which would mount to the base of the Manfrotto MVG300XM Modular Gimbal and provided mounting points to which you could connect a monitor. See: https://bhpho.to/2qietuV

Q: 3. which follow focus is fully compatible with the 300xm?

A: The Manfrotto MVG300XM Modular Gimbal does not have the capabilities to control third party follow focus units.

Q: 4. What is the max range between the handle as a remote and the gimbal?

A: The remote control has a six-foot range with the Manfrotto MVG300XM Gimbal.

Q: 5. What do the "A" and "B" buttons on the handle do? Can I set them to a custom setting?

A: On the Manfrotto MVG300XM Modular Gimbal, the A button and B button have the purpose of marker points. Once recorded, the motion tracks from A to B will be generated automatically. The time between A to B marks can be set in the A/B settings within the gimbal menu.

Q: 6. Does this include any kin of a case? Also, what is the recommended charger? I see that one is not included.

A: The Manfrotto MVG300XM Modular Gimbal does come with a case. One can use most any USB charger to charge this gimbal. A good option would be the Xcellon Mighty Mini 365 3-Port 65W GaN USB Charger, BH #XCPDG365B (https://bhpho.to/3CoGgh4).

Q: 7. As a remote head, will this mount the Manfrotto SYMPLA?

A: Yes it can.

Q: 8. Can the CRI be improved ?

A: The CRI for the Videssence P110-255BX would be based on the lamps being used with it. One replacement lamp with a CRI of 92 is the FloLight 55W Biax 5,400K Replacement Tube, BH # FLFLTD. https://bhpho.to/3S7rrXZ

Q: 9. Is this compatible with a Sony a7rv?

A: Yes, the SONY A7RV is supported for control and balancing when using the Manfrotto MVG300XM Modular Gimbal. Please note that the Sony A7RV would use the SONY A7RIV setup process. Tested camera chart - https://bit.ly/3E740sh

Q: 10. Is the P110-255BX model able to be controlled remotely? I do not see any DMX inputs into the fixture.

A: This particular version of the Videssence P110-255BX does not offer a DMX interface. There is a version that does offer this interface, however we do not carry it at this time. An alternative would be the Videssence Power CYC PC220-455BX Focusable Fluorescent Light Fixture (120 VAC, DMX Dimmable), BH # VIPC220DMX which has 4 lamps and the DMX interface. https://bhpho.to/3zo9prX

[Synthesizer] The Arturia Mini V3 is incredibly cool. There is truly sooo much you can do over a standard Model-D from an extra LFO that doesn’t eat up oscillator 3 to velocity as a modifier to varying actual pulse widths static or modulated to individual amounts of any modifier on each oscillator all made possible by the eight slot mod matrix. The major failing that I take no points off from this synth is that it does not have the natural drift of the original Model-D. I’m pretty sure I have heard & seen oscillator drift in soft software synths so I’m not sure why it’s omitted here but as long as you detune your oscillators to taste you get a rich sound that in context will surpass a Minimoog in terms of sheer flexibility & enhancements every time. The built in chorus & delay sound good but really aren’t necessary for most patches. I never found a use for the vocal filter as I would have preferred female articulations or the motion recorder as it always restarts with each note press & isn’t free running like say a Moog 1125 which would have been an ingenious touch. Maybe in a future update. For sheer flexibility from enhancements such as polyphony & velocity to being able to automate sequences & performances to never needing to service your instrument the Arturia Mini V3 delivers in spades. I literally sold my vintage Model-D because the Mini V3’s features made me feel the vintage instrument is more of a collectors piece & not forward thinking. I see myself using the Mini V3 for a long time to come.

[Standard] I purchased my Mac Pro just so that I can start my own photobooth company. Just to find out that being a MAC user this isn't something that you would want to do with such an expensive device. I downloaded this software to test the device out but it wouldn't work. Thats when I noticed that you can only use this software with Windows.

[Download] So, I've been using FastRawViewer for...about three weeks now. It actually lives up to the name, being fantastically, well, fast. But that's not the main point; the main point is that FastRawViewer let me better understand my camera, and helped me increase its dynamic range by over a stop, having lowered the amount of noise in the shots - it turns out that you tend to pick better RAW shots when you pick images based on the optimal exposure for RAW, and not for JPEGs (since, earlier, I was forced to work based on JPEG previews). I've tried many programs, both viewers and converters, but none of them gave me the ability to quickly and accurately pick shots with optimal exposure for RAW. Even if FastRawViewer didn't have any tools other than the RAW histogram and the RAW-based over- and underexposure statistics (which it does - FastRawViewer offers a lot of other unique tools for RAW culling and even for preliminary correction), I'd suggest that anyone who shoots in RAW use this program. There is one thing about this program that...saddens me, for lack of a better term. It's shown me that before I started using it, I'd thrown out many, many, many shots that I thought were overexposed, selecting them on the basis of the embedded JPEG. If I'd kept them instead, I would now be able to choose shots that were actually exposed much better, and accordingly had much less noise than those that I chosen to keep without using FastRawViewer.

[Download] I grew up on the old Roland Junos, and was especially fond of my Juno 60. The sounds from that, the Juno 106 and Jupiter 8 were in a class by themselves. The System-8 brings all of that back. The sounds are there, as is the layout -- with all the controls out and ready to be tinkered with -- making it a great blast from the past. Having both a Juno 106 and Jupiter 8 all in one, along with the System 8 synth, is pretty sweet. I was skeptical of a digital take on analog sounds, but Roland's ACB technology delivers. It too, is in its own class.
