Schoeps Mk 2s Microphone Capsule - Matched Pair

Schoeps Mk 2s Microphone Capsule - Matched Pair
  • Product Code: eq9102
  • Availability: In Stock

$6,204.00 $8,499.48

The nickel finish MK 2S Microphone Capsule from Schoeps comes as a matched pair, and exhibits a slight high-frequency emphasis for frontal sound incidence, with only a slight rolloff of high frequencies off axis and in the reverberant sound field. This frequency response characteristic falls between that of the MK 2 and the MK 3 capsules, making this capsule suitable for a wide range of applications.

This capsule has proven particularly useful in 2- and 3-microphone stereo arrays, where its placement near the reverberation radius of the sound field presents a sonically balanced pickup favored by many recording engineers.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does ride ws 8 windscreen fits this microphone?

A: No, the Rode WS 8 windscreen fits microphones with a diameter of 20mm and the SE Electronics SE7 has a diameter of 12.7 mm.

Q: 2. what means Mini Pressure Condenser Microphone ? could be used for drum Overheads miking?

A: Certainly. The KM 184 is suitable for X,Y style stereo capturing, percussion, wind instruments, piano, leslie speaker, and guitar amplifiers. The KM 184 can handle sound pressure levels up to 138 dB, allowing fairly close miking of instruments (including drums). Cardioid microphones, which make up the majority of models, are a 50:50 mixture of pressure and pressure gradient transducers. Pressure condenser microphones:This type is provided with a high-tuned diaphragm. The diaphragm mass(together with the vibrating air mass) is made small, the restoring forcelarge. Blind holes in the backplate, and sometimes an additional air pocketdiminish the stiffness of the air cushion sufficiently to bring the diaphragmresonance into the region of the microphones upper cut-off frequency. Inthe rising portion of the resonance curve (below the resonant frequency),the diaphragm velocity then increases with frequency and ensures the requiredconstant diaphragm excursion

Q: 3. What is the self-noise of these microphones?

A: According to the manufacturer, the CEntrance PivotMic PM1 XY Stereo Condenser Recording Microphone (Matched Pair) are rated at 20 dBA for self-noise. The standard SPL for measurements is 94 dBA and the signal-to-noise ratio rating is 74 dB.

Q: 4. Where are these made?

A: The ART M-Six Stereo Pencil Condenser Microphone (Matched Pair) are made in China.

Q: 5. Have users enjoyed good results when recording live string and orchestral performances? Would you recommend a different model for strings? Perhaps even a different brand?

A: It would depend on the size of the string section and the stereo technique you are using. For a small string section recorded in an XY or ORTF technique the KM 184 is perfect. But if you are talking about a full string section 30 to 60 people then no not the right mic. The capsule is to small and the stereo techniques are not broad enough. I would suggest the Microtech Gefell M 930 Large-Diaphragm . The stereo technique I would suggest the MS or Blumlein. With these mic's and either of those techniques the stereo imaging would be spectacular.

Q: 6. Would this pair be good for recording a classical orchestral harp (47 string)? Reducing pedal noise and breathing would be ideal

A: Yes, the matched pair of LLewitt LCT 140 AIR Stereo Pair Small-Diaphragm Instrument Condenser Microphones to record a classical orchestral harp.

Q: 7. So are these specifically for the Mixerface recorders? I wanted to get these for my Zoom F3 because they would be perfect for it, but I'm seeing other people saying they're proprietary.

A: The CEntrance PivotMic PM1 XY Stereo Condenser Recording Microphone will perform best when used with the CEntrance Mixerface. Presumably these could be used with other recorders such as the Zoom F3, however as others mention, the orientation of the XLR connections may present an issue when attempting to orient the capsules in a specific stereo pattern.

Q: 8. Does it come with any kind of protective case?

A: No, a case is not included with the MK 41 capsule.

Q: 9. What are the differences between this set and the CMIT 5u?

A: The Schoeps CMIT 5U is a 9.9" shotgun microphone with a supercardioid and lobar pickup pattern while the Schoeps Colette Mono Kit is a compact Colette Series modular supercardioid condenser microphone bundle that includes the modular MK41 Supercardioid Condenser Microphone Capsule, the CUT 60 Low-Cut Filter for Colette Series Microphones CMC 1, and the CMC 1 U Miniature Colette Microphone Amplifier. The mic capsule is only 0.9" and the mic amp is 1.4".

Q: 10. Is having a matched pair important for doing a two person YouTube video podcast via two overhead KM 185 boomed mics?

A: Matched pair microphones becomes a critical choice for critical vocal and musical recording. Not an issue for your application at all.

[12 mV/Pa] I'm using the MK8 with a Schoeps miniCMIT for my M/S setup and I'm extremely pleased with my field recording and SFX results. I wouldn't trade this for anything.

[0.35 lb] MK22 cartridges are halfway between the MK21 Wide Cardioid and the MK4 Cardioid - fairly directional but with extended base response. I frequently record in highly reverberant venues, such as cathedrals. Used as space microphones, the MK22 gives a clear sound with good stereo image, and a good balance with ambience. I plan to use them on a 1 meter stereo in ORTF configuration, with a pair of spaced MK22 microphones. Omnis tend to be muddy in this application and cards lose the warmth I seek. The MK22s will form the core sound - everything else is just for emphasis. MK22s are also effective for chamber music, often in conjunction with a pair of MK2H (far field) Omnis.

[12 mV/Pa] I'm using this with a CMC6 and a CMIT5U for an M/S rig. I know there has been some debate on Gearslutz regarding Schoeps vs Sennheiser for this application but to my ears, the sound is great. Gives me an accurate and clear reproduction of the sounds being recorded. It's pricey but I'm not afraid to pay for the results that I get using this gear.

[12 mV/Pa] Schoeps says that there's no discernible difference in sound quality, but when I heard this one, I put my CMC6 up for sale immediately.

The higher SPLs do make a difference; and to my ear the CMC1 has a more clean and transparent sound to it. I know that sounds lame, but it's hard to describe. This CMC1 is amazing.

HIGHLY recommended.

[0.35 lb] I already own an mk4, and I wanted to get a second mk4 so I could record a stereo pair for piano and acoustic guitar and it sounds so good. The mk4 I already own, I've had for about 4 years now, and it's my go to mic for everything -- strings, piano, guitar, voice. I have tried many many mics above and below this price point and to my ears, none sound as natural. I rarely need EQ when using schoeps mics. It also matches my other mk4 perfectly. Very happy with the purchase. Also B+H customer service was great and the capsule arrived quickly.

[0.35 lb] It's a beautiful microphone. I bought it because I wanted something clean that I could distort according to my needs in post and this has that flexibility as well as having a standalone beautiful sound.
