Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the boom pole holder include the gray mount or is it just the cradle for the boom pole?

A: This item is just the cradle that holds the boom pole. The mount that is shown in gray in the photo is a grip head which is not included, but we do have them available separately. For example, the Impact Grip Head for Lights and Accessories - 2.5" Diameter - Chrome (B&H # IMKCP200) should work with most stands.

Q: 2. What is maximum distance between the two USB-A sockets? And the key question, will that work in an airliner to draw power from USB sockets in two seats?..

A: The approximate distance between the 2 USB-A connectors of this cable is 3 feet. This distance should allow the user to plug-in each USB-A connector to a power source without straining the cable. While USB-A voltage should always be 5-volts, we cannot comment on the current that is available at each USB-A port of the airline equipment is use, as this probably varies per airplane. As an alternative, you might consider a USB-C-to-USB-C cable along with a portable USB-C power bank / battery.

Q: 3. I have to ask this question because the contact us page on filmdevices site it's not very responsive.....any instruction manual ?

A: Unfortunately, the manual for the Film Devices Triple-Leg Magnetic Car Mount for Small Camera Rig isn't available on our server.

Q: 4. Can someone recommend a Hirose MALE 4 pin to D-Tap cable for this? I want to power my MixPre6 with a V-mount battery.

A: The Remote Audio Anton Bauer PowerTap to 4-Pin Male Hirose DC Power Cable (BH #RECAPTAPHIR) is a great cable option to connect a D-Tap power source to the Cable Techniques MX-POWERSLED for Sound Devices MixPre-3 And MixPre-6: https://bhpho.to/3b8c7JE

Q: 5. Is this combination for upcoming new SONY A7R7 camera ?

A: Yes, Sony a7R V Mirrorless Camera has Dual Slot: CFexpress Type A / SD (UHS-II). Delkin Devices 80GB POWER CFexpress Type A & 64GB POWER UHS-II SDXC Memory Card Bundle provide both cards on this bundle.

Q: 6. So, do the two USB-A connectors plug into those on a PC and the USB-C end plug into the recorder to power it? If so, could I use this with an external USB powerpack that has two USB-A out connections to power the recorder and phantom powered external mics for a period of several hours? (Instead of using Sony L-mount batteries?)

A: Hi Ross, You are correct: the two USB-A connectors would plug into your computer and the USB-C end will connect to your MixPre 3/6 to power it. Yes you can also use a USB Powerpack to power your MixPre-3/6. Just in case here are additional powering options for your reference: https://www.sounddevices.com/tech-notes/mixpre-3-mixpre-6-powering-options Thanks!

Q: 7. can I connect this to a usb power bank? what cable do I need?

A: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1567075-REG/anker_a1231011_powercore_slim_10000mah_portable.html?sts=pi&pim=Y This is the recommended power bank, you can use it with this adapter cable: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1353406-REG/zoom_dhc_1_dc_to_hirose_cable.html?sts=pi&pim=Y

Q: 8. If I got this for a MixPre 3 and a Hirose 4-pin to D-Tap/P-Tap cable, would I be able to power it off v-lock batteries with a D-Tap/P-Tap out? Also, If it was to be configured under a camera with v-lock power could it split and share power to both devices or is there load limits, etc?Trying to run it off a RED Raven, but also have the ability to power it separately off v-lock batteries.

A: Question #1) Yes, that should work fine. The MX-Powersled has a large input voltage range of 9 to 24 volts DC, and can accept power from any source that can be wired to the four pin Hirose DC standard, and supply the 7 to 9 watts the Mixpre 3/6 requires. I have used mine with an NP-1 cup to Hirose cable, AC adapter, as well as a car battery alligator clip cable with no problems. Question #2) There should be no issues with sharing a battery between both devices (with a commensurate decrease in overall run time). As indicated above, the Mixpre 3/6 needs about 7-9 watts to run with phantoms on all inputs, less without phantom. The Mixpre-3/6 is a fantastic piece of equipment that is extremely flexible and great sounding. Good Luck!

Q: 9. Is this compatible with the newer versions of the Mix Pre series? I have one, it works well with the Mix Pre 3 v1 but doesn't seem to seat correctly on my Mix Pre 6 II

A: As a better option for the MixPre-6 II, you could use the Sound Devices MX-LMount Battery Sled (B&H # SOMXLMOUNT) which is available in stock.

Q: 10. Is the bottom of the pole threaded to accept a 1/4"-20 or 3/8"-16 screw?

A: There are no thread connections specified for the bottom of the Film Devices Microphone Travel Boompole Kit (Carbon Fiber). The mounting thread on the top of the pole is 1/4"-20 and can be expanded to 3/8"-16 with the included thread adapter.

Nice performing BDS cable for boxes. I had one that was shutting down intermittently so sent it in and they good folks at REMOTE AUDIO replaced it immediately. Great customer service.

It is small and compact. I picked up a cable that is D-Tap to HIrose. I reached out to the Sound Devices about the wiring of this to make sure I could check if cables would work. Pins 1 and 2 are wired together and are positive, pins 3 and 4 are wired together and are the negative. This way you can check with cable manufactures to make sure it is wired correctly for your unit.

I use this to power my Fujinon ENG lens (HA17x7.8) from a v-lock battery distributor (Tilta) attached to my Blackmagic pocket camera. It works great and is great value for money as it's a lot cheaper than the genuine Fujinon cable.

I got this hopefully remove the ground loop hum that would occur when using a battery eliminator for my Sennheiser G4s. If they were connected to my main battery distro, the connected Zoom F8n would cause unacceptable ground loop, and thus prevent me from using the battery eliminators.

I bought this and experimented a bit and found that if I put this power isolator between the G4 and the battery distro box, the hum was effectively gone (only noticeable if recorder gain was set way higher than I would ever use).

I plan on buying a second to use with the second G4 so that I can more effectively get the most of of my battery distro system.

What can I say, works exactly as advertised. The split output allows me to power my Sound Devices 833 and BDS separately, preserving the Smart Battery data sent to the 833. It's very helpful for gauging the remaining runtime of the battery system. The battery cup is snug so there is little worry of the battery becoming disconnected when jostled in my bag.
