Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. what is the difference between the black and white grid?

A: The white grids tend to soften the edges and the contrast of the light output. It creates a more subtle shadow to highlight transistion. The black grids tend to harden the edges and increase the contrast of the light output.

Q: 2. Wait, is this a "diffuser" or a "reflector"? I'm looking for something white that I can use for under-chin shadow help

A: The Westcott BASICS Sunlight/White 40" 2-in-1 Reflector is a reflector only. This can be used to reflect light under a model's chin.

Q: 3. What are folded dimensions? In a carry case? How portable is it?

A: The included soft carrying case is a very manageable size, and it's extremely light. The case is 3 feet long, about 8 inches wide, and about 3-4 inches tall. It won't fit in a suitcase, but is super easy to carry otherwise.

Q: 4. What do I need to be able to mount this to a normal tripod?

A: This should be mounted to a small light stand, not a tripod. It comes with an insert mount for the top of the lightstand spigot. Use a short lightstand as normal ones will be too high.

Q: 5. What's the folded size?

A: About 13 .

Q: 6. I am expecting to mostly have to hold my reflector in one hand while shooting with the other, and am trying to choose between this reflector and the manfrotto trigrip - can the profoto reflectors be managed with one hand as easily?

A: As the Profoto Collapsible Reflector - Silver/White - 33" has handles on the two (2) corners of the reflector, though it would be easier to hold the reflector with two hands, it is possible to hold the reflector with one hand and hold your camera with the other hand.

Q: 7. what is the difference between this model and the Westcott 50 5 - in - 1 Reflector? look identical but the price is different ?

A: Adam,This sunlight version has a sunlight reflective fabric in place of the gold surface on the other 5-in-1. The sunlight surface has an understated warming effect while the gold surface is more pronounced.

Q: 8. When diffusing the sun or other light source, how much does it absorb? One stop? More?

A: This product would reduce the light by 1 full stop.

Q: 9. Does the gold on the gold reflector flake old as i've seen on other brand; and, is it a strong color of gold such as to give photos a gold color cast rather than warm golden hour presence?

A: The Profoto reflectors are very well built. Depending on how you store them they might at some point fail with age and use. The color is a warm and pleasing tone.

Q: 10. Do you recommend the 48 or 30 for outdoors in moderately windy conditions. I have a 30 6 in 1 from Westcott but find it too small but think 48 might be too large? .

A: I suppose it is a little more difficult to use in the wind. However, its large size helps bounce more light and also works really well for blocking light

[1.065 lb] Inexpensive and essential. We always have a few on set for filling interviews from the key light.

[Silver, White] Primary use in portraits as a shadowside fill. I use it for both indoors and outside shoots. Having just received it I cannot tell how it will hold up over time but it seems well made.

[Silver, White] This reflector is good. It is silver on one side and white on the other. The white side has some dark creases on it, that look like they came from it being folded up. I don't think it affects the way the picture looks. I had to figure out how to fold it back up; it seems like it would break. But it folds up fine. I have unfolded it a few times to get the hang of it. BE Careful when you take it out of the pouch for the first time. It is like a jack-in-the-box. Make sure that you have a firm grip on it, squeezing it together so that it remains closed until you remove it from the pouch. I just unzipped the pouch and started to pull it out, and it whizzed by my head and landed on the other side of the room. It was pretty funny. I think this will be a good addition to my gear bag.

[Silver, White] I really like the nice soft light it casts on my subject. Softer light with the white side and a stronger, cooler with the silver. Carrying case may be a bit delicate since it did tear at a seam after first use.

[Silver, White] Sturdy construction. The gold/silver side is nicely balanced for portraits (a solid gold reflector can sometimes be too much). Not flimsy. Great product!

[Circle] I use this reflector on all my high school senior photo shoots. It is the perfect size for on location photo shoots.

[Silver, White] Quality you can count on! I have a 5in1 but needed something easier to manage on fast paced shoots. This reflector has the two colors I use most often. Still love my 5in1 but this is my go to when I simply need good quality reflected light that closely resembles natural light.

[1.065 lb] I have only used it twice. It is a great tool to have when the light is harsh. I have only used in an outdoor situation to defuse the sunlight on faces. I plan on using it in the studio at a later date. On arrival it had black smudges on one side. To me it looked like grease. Most of it came off with a damp rag. Not a big issue it won't ever show up in any of the photos. Have also used it to fan hair for creating a cinema graph.

[1.065 lb] I was looking for a diffuser that was small and affordable, this one fit the bill perfectly. I can diffuse the sun or an external light source with one hand while shooting with another. I got this to augment my 5 in 1 ... would recommend to a friend!
