Musicians, sound designers, and synthesizer aficionados looking for a portable version of the Sequential Prophet-5 will be thrilled with the Sequential Prophet-5 Desktop Module, a desktop version of the original 5-voice polyphonic synthesizer with added enhancements. Created in the late '70s, the original Prophet 5 was the first fully programmable polyphonic synthesizer with savable patches.

The desktop module features the authentic analog circuit designs of the original and incorporates Curtis VCOs and both Curtis- and Rossum-designed filters, which provide the true sonic magic of the original Prophet-5 versions 1, 2, and 3. Additional enhancements include velocity and aftertouch, full MIDI, and USB. The remarkable vintage control provides continuous variability between the musical volatility of the Rev 1 to the rock-solid stability of the Rev 4.

The original Poly Mod is included and features Filter Envelope and Oscillator B as sources, and Oscillator A Frequency, Oscillator A Pulse Width, and Low-Pass Filter as destinations. Although simple, the Poly Mod is quite capable of producing a wide range of sounds. Additionally, Unison mode now features configurable voice counts (1-5) with variable detuning and chord memory. Glide also works both in and out of Unison mode.

The instrument features USB, MIDI, gate, and CV inputs/outputs, as well as a premium-quality steel chassis with a hand-oiled sustainable black-walnut heartwood trim. The knob-per-function front panel is adorned with a variety of controls for instant gratification and immediate sound shaping. There are 200 permanent factory programs and 200 rewriteable user programs including the original 40 presets from 1978.

The Prophet-5 is Dave Smith's five-voice version of the analog poly synth that changed the world. It embodies all three revisions of the legendary Prophet-5 synth (Rev1, Rev2, and Rev3) through the use of genuine Curtis analog VCOs and filters (as in the Rev3) as well as new 2140 low-pass filters designed by Dave Rossum, like the 2040 filters he designed in the original Rev1 and Rev2. A Rev switch lets you choose between the two filter designs. It also adjusts the Filter Envelope's shape and response to match the original Prophet Rev 1/2 or Rev 3 respectively.

In addition to sourcing genuine Prophet-5 hardware components, Sequential did extensive research into exactly what made the original sound the way it did - warm, organic, and alive. Much of this desirable character was due to slight fluctuations and differences in the response times and frequencies of the individual VCOs, filters, envelopes, and amplifiers from voice to voice.

To give the same mojo to the new Prophet-5, a Vintage knob was created. Use it to dial in as much old-school randomness as you'd like. Go from a very stable 4 (as in Prophet-5 Rev4), which refers to the new version, all the way to 1, (as in Prophet-5 Rev1), the rarest and most temperamental of all Prophet-5s.

In addition to the unmistakable tone of its oscillators and filters, much of the classic sound of the Prophet-5 was the result of Poly Mod, which is faithfully present here as well. True to the original, modulation sources are Filter Envelope and Oscillator B. Destinations include Oscillator A Frequency, Oscillator A Pulse Width, and Low-Pass Filter. The range of sounds possible defy its simplicity. Another welcome reprise is Unison mode, which now features configurable voice count (1-5 voices) with variable detuning, and chord memory. And now Glide works both in and out of Unison.

This updated instrument now features velocity sensitivity and aftertouch, which enables the Prophet-5 to perform in ways the original never could, by putting filter sweeps, LFO mod, and volume changes at your fingertips.

The purity of the Prophet's sound is matched only by its simplicity to program. The knob-per-function front panel gives you instant gratification and immediate access to all sound-shaping controls. Toggling off the Preset button enables Live Panel mode, where the Prophet-5 switches to the current settings of its knobs and switches. What you see is exactly what you hear. Included are 200 permanent factory programs and 200 rewritable user programs, including the original 40-program sound set from 1978 that found its way onto countless recordings and film soundtracks back in the day and beyond.

All of this punchy, powerful, analog goodness is housed in a compact steel case with USB, MIDI, Gate, and CV ins/outs, and premium-quality, hand-oiled, sustainable black-walnut heartwood trim.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will it work with a Pixel phone? Specifically the Pixel 6a?

A: The RODE VideoMic GO II-H Ultracompact Analog/USB Camera-Mount Shotgun Microphone (BH # ROVMGOIIH) will work with a Google Pixel 6a mobile phone.

Q: 2. Does this mouse/keyboard work with an ASUS Chromebox 3?

A: Yes, they will work via attached usb cables.

Q: 3. Will this fit and work on Leica Q3 43?

A: The RODE VideoMic GO II-H Ultracompact Analog/USB Camera Mount Shotgun Microphone cannot be connected to the Leica Q3 43 Digital Camera because the camera does not feature an external microphone input connector.

Q: 4. How much gain is available with this mixer?

A: The CAD MXU2 2-Channel Analog Mixer with USB can provide approximately 28dB of gain.

Q: 5. Does it work with DSLRs? Can you demonstrate?

A: Beside the ProPrompter and a display, you need a regular tripod or a desktop tripod. Put the ProPrompter on the display your are using, either an iPad or laptop or desktop monitor. Now there either must be space on the table behind the display for a desktop tripod or room on the floor behind the display for a full size tripod. Place the appropriate tripod behind the display and mount the DSLR. Line the DSLR up so that it is aiming through the semicircle. Then adjust the ProPrompter to the display and the camera.

Q: 8. Hi. I have an old professional VHS camera that has BNC video output. So to capture the video to my Mac book, first I have to use this analog-sdi converter, after I have to connect it to the Design UltraStudio Mini Recorder, and after connect all this to laptop? And what’s the difference if I will use Elgato USB Analog Video Capture Device Instead of all this, connected to the camera via bnc-s-video cable ( it passes the color) and connected to laptop via usb? Thank you very much for your answer!

A: If you use the Blackmagic Design Mini Converter Analog to SDI, it will convert the analog signal to digital and then the Blackmagic UltraStudio Mini Recorder could be used. However, the Elgato USB analog video capture device could be used as a more direct solution to convert an analog source. The only major advantage in using the Blackmagic solution would be to use Blackmagic's Media Express software (free download) to encode it into a variety of formats, such as Apple Prores.

Q: 9. I am converting old Betacam SP component out 4:3 to SDI Atomos input. I am assuming the Atomos is not capable of dealing with 4:3? Is there another way of transferring 4:3 original scale to MP4 or Mov?

A: From the Blackmagic Mini Converter Analog to SDI I would go into a capture device for a computer. Once the signal is going into the computer, you can use a variety of recording software to properly record the video in a desired aspect ratio.

Q: 10. What are the power requirements (amps/watts) to operate this motor?

A: HEDEN offers a D-Tap Power Cable for this motor, B&H # HEAC51. As long as you have this cable and a battery with a D-Tap Accessory Port you will be able to properly power the motor. B&H # HEAC51 - https://bhpho.to/2I4xw7B Battery Option - https://bhpho.to/2mzvEZW

[11.18 lb] The minilogue is a full fledged 4 voice polyphonic analog synth with 1 LFO. You can save patches (200) and the oscilloscope is helpful for patch building. When recalling patches, there are several options for the knobs too-- the default is to 'jump' to the value that the knob is turned to, but there is also a 'catch' option that won't change the parameter until you move the knob to where it was in the saved patch-- this is very helpful for live performance to ensure smooth parameter transitions! I have been using in both studio and live setting. Overall a surprisingly well made and feature-full analog synth... hard to believe korg packed everything in at such a low pricepoint for analog polys!

[11.18 lb] Been waiting for so long to get my hands on one of these! Ever since I opened the box I've been in love. For the price point you can't beat it. I've been using the Korg R3 for about 5 years and a Roland SH-32 for about a year, this is a perfect addition to my setup! If you're in the market for an analog synth.. BUY THIS ONE!

[11.18 lb] The Korg Minilogue is a SUPER fun & intuitive analog synth for everyone from beginners to seasoned synthesits. I've been programming synths for 20 years and this was just as fun as the first synth I ever used. Its analog sound is wonderful and thick. Almost everything has a knob or switch for control and, for the patches I was making, I never went into the menus for further editing beyond naming patches and setting sequencer settings. The shape control of the oscillators gives a lot of variation to your standard waveforms and the sync/ring-mod, cross modulation, & pitch envelope of oscillator two really open up the sonic possibilities. I very much enjoy the dedicated switch for velocity modulation of the filter cutoff and I like that there are only two modulation depths beyond none. My favorite feature of the Minilogue is the envelope modulation of either the rate or the intensity of the LFO. This really gives a sense of motion to what is already a sense of motion from the LFO. My only complaint is that the LFO doesn't go fast enough for analog-FM style tones. It's not nearly as fast as the LFO on the Monologue but that's more of an observation that a full drawback. I really enjoyed the different voice modes of this synth, really finding mono, which introduces a variable level sub, and chord, which creates various fixed chords, to be the most useful beyond the standard poly mode. This is by far the best poly synth I have ever found for someone who is interested in learning analog synthesis. The knobs and switches along with the actual layout of them makes programming make sense and a joy to use. The Minilogue does have mini-keys but the mini keys Korg has been using for their new synths are really great. Much better than the microKORG. With the Minilogue, Korg really show us that there will always be room for one more analog synth.

[11.18 lb] The Minilogue is a really fun to use synthesizer, with an immediate interface to tweak and a great sound, while also affordable. At first I wasn't so sure about its sound, but had a test drive and it really impressed me (all 3 times in consecutive days). Even as an affordable synth, it has its own thing and can sound amazing. Been using it mostly for pad and keyboard(ish) bell sounds, and it is great at it. Throw in an external delay pedal and you're good for days. Sound-wise, it doesn't have the aggressively low end you find on other synths, but it is very good at mid-range. I love the filter tonality, and while not the most versatile beast, it is certainly capable of doing some impressive things. The hardware is also very well made for what you pay... good metallic plate on top, mini-keys that are way better than traditional ones, all necessary tools for customizing simple and complex sounds (although limited in terms of modulations), nice knobs and switches, ideal size (love this small footprint). There's a single thing I don't enjoy much: the pitch bend lever. I'd rather have a single modulation one... this aside, an amazing little synth.

[11.18 lb] Great, powerful instrument at a great package price on B&H. I'm a guitar player and I was just looking for something to give me some new sounds and inspiration - the XD definitely did. The presets are great right out of the box, but the journey into designing my own analog synth sounds has been even better due to the intuitive layout of the XD. The built in effects are great, and then I downloaded a few 3rd party effects and oscillators to make this versatile synth even more versatile. It's a great starter if you're looking to go down the synth rabbit hole. I can also see it taking a good bit of time to outgrow the XD too. It really has it all in there.
