Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I use RASA 8 on Celestron Advanced VX mount? I have ZWO ASI2600MC Pro and ASI Air, which should not be more than +10lbs

A: The Celestron 8" f/2.0 Rowe-Ackermann Schmidt Astrograph (OTA Only) weighs 17 pounds so at 27 pounds you would be pushing the 30 pound limit of the advanced VX mount. For your combination I would recommend stepping up to the Celestron CGEM II GoTo German Equatorial Mount with Tripod which has a 40 pound limit: https://bhpho.to/33hkugb

Q: 2. It looks like the ASFT 100 and the ASSF 80 will both fit my telescope. The Baader film is the same in both filters. What am I getting in the ASFT 100 that warrants spending the extra $10?

A: A larger metal ring. A larger film area.

Q: 3. in continuation with previous question. So do i need to purchase Alpine Astronomical Baader T-2 90 Prism Star Diagonal Housing separately ?

A: It should come with everything you may need: In the Box Alpine Astronomical Baader MaxBright II Binoviewer (1.25") Carrying Case Zeiss Micro-Bayonet Mounting Adapter Limited 2-Year Warranty Alpine Astronomical Glasspath Corrector 2.6x for Maxbright/Mark V Binoviewers Limited 2-Year Warranty Alpine Astronomical Baader 2" T-2 Nosepiece Limited 2-Year Warranty I dose not come with eyepieces.

Q: 4. can this filter be used to view the flame and horse head nebula too and does it help viewing galaxies..??

A: So we really do not recommend using this filter for this purpose. It is more for Imaging, and it will reduce what you are seeing. I honestly don't recommend using a filter at all with looking at what you are going to view. However if you did want to get a filter then I would go with the Celestron UHC (Ultra High Contrast) LPR Filter (1.25 ) - Reduces Transmission of Wavelengths of Artificially-Produced Light. Q: 5. Baader sells this part packaged also with an M48 ring insert (only in the case of the Sony adapter). Do you include this extra ring?

A: Here is a list of the Baader rings B&H sells for Sony https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/products/astrophotography-adapter-rings-extension-tubes/ci/48682?filters=fct_brand_name%3Aalpine-astronomical&searchWithin=sony

Q: 6. Why are there two Herschel wedges, photo and visual?? why can't one wedge be used for both with some adjustments?

A: The Alpine Astronomical Baader Cool-Ceramic Safety Herschel Solar Photographic Prism Mark II includes all the items in the visual version with the addition of 1.8, 0.9, and 0.6 neutral density filters. Aside for the extra filters, the other components are exactly the same.

Q: 7. In the in the box section it list counter weight as 2 CGM and not one for CGX. is this correct?

A: Yes, the RASA 8 and CGX mount comes with two (2) 11-pounds counterweights as seen in this official Celestron webpage product specification: https://www.celestron.com/products/cgx-800-rowe-ackermann-schmidt-astrograph-rasa-telescope#specifications

Q: 8. What size would you recommend for a Zeiss 20x60 IS binoculars? Are these the safest filters to use? Thanks.

A: The Alpine Astronomical 60mm Baader AstroSolar White-Light Solar Filter for Binoculars (Single) BH #ALASBF60 • MFR #ASBF-60 would be the appropriate sixe for the Zeiss 20x60 IS binoculars.

Q: 9. With the Barlow attached, this effectively goes between 3.5mm - 10mm, right?

A: With a 2X barlow correct

Q: 10. What items are in the box?

A: The Alpine Astronomical Baader 2x Carl Zeiss Abbe Barlow Lens (1.25") BH #ALZBARLOW • MFR #ZBARLOW comes with the Alpine Astronomical Baader 1.25"/T-2 Click-Lock Eyepiece Holder Adapter BH #ALT208 • MFR #T2-08 and a 2 year aarranty.

[0.145 lb] It works just fine.

[0.145 lb] Very nice. Could use one more thread though. Seems a little short on threading when trying to attach and remove while making lens changes in the dark. Makes me a little nervous sometimes that I will drop it during removal from the lens. Good quality though and I like having it around.

[0.145 lb] I am using the clamp on a SkyWatcher Star Adventurer 2i mount. It is quite versatile in that it can be attached to a mount in several ways. It is very well built and enables secure attachment of lenses/telescopes with Vixen dovetail bars. A very good value.

[0.145 lb] Nice to have a filter that works great with my Baader eyepiece.

[0.145 lb] They work quite well; no halos or any undesirable behavior which I could notice as of now. They did require an increase in exposure time, but that's expected.

[0.145 lb] This dovetail clamp is well made and has a quality finish. I am building my own custom telescope mount and this clamp should be a secure fixture for my application. The clamp accommodates Vixen-style dovetail bars and should support small to medium size telescopes without a problem. However, I would NOT put a large, heavy telescope on this clamp.

[0.145 lb] There is no better narrowband green filter for astronomical observations and photography. I have been observing since 1974 and this filter has turned my achromatic refractor into an apochromat. Viewing on the Moon cannot be sharper eliminating chromatic aberration by using one wavelength of color and then converting to black and white monochrome. Baader's reputation exceeds itself.

[0.145 lb] I bought this to see if it would help bring out some color and detail for my astrophotography. I have little light pollution in my area but it this thing really does what it's supposed to. I did some test shots with a colorchecker passport in regular daylight and the difference is definitely noticeable. There's a very clear boost in color and slight boost in contrast, what I mean is that they appear more clearly and saturated. It's magic! I might even start using this for some regular photography too! I have to use step-down adapters to fit these onto my lenses as I am not using it with a telescope (67mm, 58mm, 52mm). I just wish they made these in sizes native to DSLR/Mirrorless lenses! Highly recommend! Also if you are someone purchasing for a DSLR/Mirrorless camera, Get the 2 version of course, and you will need step-down/step-up adapters to 48mm. Even though 2 is not 48mm, that is the threads for this baader filter. I recommend the sensei filter adapters, cheap and very well made. In order to adapt some lens sizes down to 48mm, you might have to buy a couple adapters and stack them. I had to do this for my larger 67mm lenses. There will of course be vignetting when doing this, but its no big deal to me.
