Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How would you compare IQ on this lens vs the Veydra 12mm?

A: I would say that the image quality of the Kowa is very good and comparable with the Veydra. While Kowa is not that well known in the still world and recently in the movie world, they are a venerable Japanese optical company that has produced respected optics for generations. I would say that your choice comes down to features. If you are stills oriented with occasional video, the Kowa might be just the ticket. If you will be doing only video, the cinema oriented Veydra set of primes would be good choice.

Q: 2. Is this (14355) the right -.5 diopter for the M-P (240)?

A: Yes it is.

Q: 3. Would this work with the 90D?

A: Yes, The Sirui Jupiter 28-85mm T3.2 Full Frame Macro Cine Zoom Lens has an EF mount that is compatible with your Canon 90D. We also recommend using this lens with a baseplate and 15mm rods and lens support if used on a tripod. It is a heavy (5.5lbs) lens and could damage you cameras mount.

Q: 4. Macro?

A: The Sirui Jupiter 28-85mm T3.2 Full Frame Macro Cine Zoom Lens (EF Mount) (B&H# SIJUPITRZMEF) offers focusing as close as 2.3' (70.1cm) from an unspecified point in the lens. The magnification at that distance and any available focal length would not typically be considered to fit the typical concept of a specialized macro lens, but it is closer-focusing and offers higher magnification than certain other parfocal cinema lenses.

Q: 5. Is the mount on this lens compatible with the Olympus OMD EM1 Mark II camera?

A: Yes it is. The Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II has an MFT mount.

Q: 6. What is the front filter thread size?

A: Sirui shows the filter size is 110mm.

Q: 7. Is there a mechanism to lock the helicod in place when not extended? Thanks.

A: We are unaware of any a mechanism to lock the helicod in place when not extended.

Q: 8. Is the lens mount user-changeable? IE if I later wanted to use this lens on a PL mount camera, would it be possible to switch out the lens mount?

A: The Sirui Jupiter 28-85mm T3.2 Full Frame Macro Cine Zoom Lens' (EF Mount) mount is not user-changeable.

Q: 9. what is different between this model 2 and the original version of the TE-11WZ ?

A: The difference between the newer Kowa TE-11WZ II Wide-Angle Zoom Eyepiece and the original version is purely cosmetic. The new model has the magnification markings for the newer 99 scope (30-70x) and the 88/77 scopes (25-60x), whereas the original eyepiece only had the 25-60x zoom range markings.

Q: 10. putting the 1.7x extender does it lose what light?

A: When using the CHIOPT E-Mount for EXTREME Zoom Cinema Lens, you will lose 1.5 stops of light.

[0.1%] Great fit between the Kowa scope and the Sony camera. Provides great detail and the correct distance from the scopes image projection.

[Manual Focus] I've been able to test this a few times in the field now, including birds at a distance and in low light. I upgraded from the Viper Vortex 65mm 15-45X. The field of vision is a lot wider on this, and clearer to the edges, at a greater zoom range. So it's better in all ways. It's so much more pleasant with a wider, clearer image, and the 83mm scope body gives me better light in low light conditions. My only issues were that the zoom goes in the opposite direction, so I have to get used to that, and when it arrived there was some gunk on the rubber parts and on the bag (but not the glass). I also wish it came with some sort of string or cord to attach to the lens cap. There's a hole in the lens cap for hanging, but they didn't include anything to tie it with..

[Manual Focus] I used this lens on a cross-country road trip, using the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera on a suction mount inside the cabin of a truck. Even looking through the window glass, when I switched lenses from a high end Nikkor Zoom to the Kowa 6mm, during the edit, you could see the marked jump in acuity. Given the lack of filter potential (a weakness for a native ISO 800 camera) I could only use this lens at the very beginning and end of the day when shooting in the truck. There was no room for a matte box system, needed to get an ND working. This lens will stand up to most any prime lens, and is a welcome (wide angle, finally!) addition to any pro shooting situation with the Pocket Cinema Camera.

[1x] A great, sharp ultra wide lens for the BMPCC with low chromatic abberation and distortion. It covers the BMPCC and Panasonic GH4 4K sensor. Downside is that this lens has no front filter thread, but if you search diligently enough one of the anamorphic lens holders will clamp onto it.

[C] Seems to be protecting the scope quite well. As the case has a zipped opening on the side of quick release plate, the scope is easily mounted on a tripod without removal the case. I tried to upload a corresponding photograph, but unsuccessfully....

[Manual Focus] I am very impressed with this scope and eyepiece. The images are super sharp, super clear, and almost completely free of chromatic aberration. The scope is also surprisingly light and easy to carry, even with the eyepiece mounted.

The eyepiece does not maintain focus exactly while zooming, so small focus adjustments are always required after changing magnification, but it's not a huge effort.

[C] I've been shooting film projects on the GH4 and the GH5 for a while now. I love wide angle, so it's been challenging to find the best lens until I found this one. This lens offers full control over focus and aperture. The addition of a clickless aperture is especially excellent. The 12mm focal length (equal to about 24mm on a full frame), gets me the most out of my images. Especially when composing for the 2:35 aspect ratio. This lens is a must-have for Micro 4/3 video shooters, especially cinematographers. Highly recommended.

[1x] I had a Kowa 884 and a TE-10z Eyepiece since 2011 which was always excellent often out resolving Swaros and Leica scopes.

I have tried this eyepiece on the 884 and the 99n and it is fantastic on both. More sharpness and contrast than the older 20-60x piece. On the 99 the extra magnification is great as well.

Brighter, Sharper, wider field of view at 25x than the old one at 20x.
