If you aim the lens directly at a light source or light is entering the lens at an oblique angle on the front of the lens, flare/glare can still be created, and as such, it is still recommended to use a lens hood to reduce external flare (flare cannot be eliminated if you aim the lens directly at a light source, regardless if you are using a multi-coated filter or lens hood.
