The 16mm f/2.0 ED AS UMC CS Lens for Samsung NX Mount from Rokinon is a manual focus wide-angle lens compatible with APS-C format mirrorless digital cameras. It provides an 83.1° angle of view which translates into a 35mm format equivalency of 24mm. A fast maximum aperture of f/2.0 is effective in low light shooting and provides shallow depth of field. With two aspherical lens elements and one extra-low dispersion element, chromatic aberrations are minimized and sharp, color-accurate images are the result. UMC lens coating facilitates even light transmission and reduces ghosting and flares.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this lens work with my Rebel K2 35mm film camera?

A: This lens is for crop sensor cameras. It will vignette on a 35mm camera.

Q: 2. Is this lens compatible with a Pentax K-50 camera?

A: Yes, this lens is compatible with the Pentax K-50.

Q: 3. Is this a full frame lens or crop sensor lens? Does it work on both types?

A: The Rokinon 16mm f/2.0 ED AS UMC CS Lens for Nikon F Mount is designed for APS-C cameras. It is not recommended to use on Full-Frame cameras because it will cause a vignette around the image.

Q: 4. It serves a full frame?

A: Hi Nicolas. The B&H website notes: The vignetting is obvious when using the Rokinon 16mm f/2 lens on a full frame camera. There is an example of the vignetting, but the lens fills most of the frame. I use a partial frame Canon XSi camera and it easily fills the frame. Dave

Q: 5. is there a crop factor on this lens?

A: Lenses don't have crop factors, cameras do. This lens is meant for a cropped sensor or aps-c camera.

Q: 6. Why the read-out information marks F4.8 or f5.6 when I got the f2 ring in the Nikon D7000?

A: The lens is a manual lens and so there is no electronic transfer between the lens and the camera. The f/stop reading on the lens will not coincide with the f/stop in the camera finder.

Q: 7. Will this lens work well with the T5i for daytime landscape and astrophotography?

A: Yes, if you are comfortable with manual focus. If the T5i has focus peaking (which I doubt), it would be easy. If not, you can use the LCD screen (not as easy). I use it on my Olympus (with adapter), which has focus peaking and that works well.

Q: 8. Will this lens work for a Canon 60D? If not, does anyone know of a lens that will and do the same thing?

A: This lens is compatible with the Canon 60D. The 60D has an APS-C sensor and is compatible with all lenses that are designated EF and EF-S

Q: 9. Is the lens hood that comes with this reversible so I can screw it on the lens backwards?

A: yes it is reversible

Q: 10. Can I use this lens wide-open for astrophotography? Any smearing of stars or other problems at f2?

A: Short answer: Yes . All lenses when fully open will introduce some distortion, so stopping it down a bit always helps. See Jerry Lodriguss' thorough article in Sky and Telescope August 2015 p. 60+. I mounted it to a Nikon D7200 piggybacked on a Meade LX90. Since the mount was in Alt-Az mode, I got field rotation with 30 second exposures. With a wedge and the LX90 polar aligned it should do just fine. Issues will be with your mount, not with the lens.

[Manual Focus] I'll keep this short and to the point: this is a fantastic lens, regardless of price. But at this price, no self-respecting street shooter should be without it. Sharp as a tack on my D7100 from f/2.8 to 11, it is on par with my other favorite lens, Nikon's suberb 24/1.8G (35mm equiv. aps-c). To tell the truth, for the kind of stuff I do--urban landscapes, abstracts, etc.--I prefer to work with the Rokinon's clear distance scale and buttery manual focus (and wider field of view). If you do urban landscapes, urban abstracts, or more traditional street photography, this is a no-brainer. One note: the first copy I received from B&H was decentered, and not just a little bit. As always, they hooked up an exchange immediately, no questions asked. Don't let this put you off, though. I went through the same process with the Nikon 24/1.8G which is twice as expensive. 24mp crop sensors are tough on WA lenses. But find a good sample of this Rokinon and watch it blow the doors off that mighty little sensor.

[f/2] Purchased this lens for landscape and astrophotography. My initial impression is that the lens is well made and very sharp even at f2.0. Did not see any indication of decentering but will do more testing based concerns in other reviews. Lens accommodated 77 mm polarizing filter, though the hood did not have an opening to turn the filter from the side. However, filter can be turned from the front of the hood. Large focusing ring worked quite well and was tack sharp when using live view. Lens coupled with Pentax K-3 so that one can change aperture from the camera in AV mode. Overall, quite happy with this lens.

[83.1°] Initial disclosure, I'm a beginner using a Canon T5 Rebel. I use this for night and landscape photography, so far it has been great. Fully manual, easy to focus in dark shots. You'll need to calibrate the focus ring, but once you get the settings, shots are clear and sharp. I think this was a great deal for the price.

[APS-C] I purchased this lens for some basic nighttime shooting....Milky Way and the like. The build quality seems good and I haven't noticed any significant vignetting. Overall, I'm very pleased with this purchase.

[f/22] This lens performs wonderfully for the price. There is minimal coma distortion, and the lens is sharp in the center. I'm sure there are other lenses out there at 3 or 4 times the price that may perform better, but the rate of return on quality quickly deminishes past this lens.

[f/22] Sharp images from a super fast lens! It's the best landscape lens for the money. The manual only focus will take some getting used to but the great glass more than compensates for this.

[77 mm (Front)] The lens seems to be built well, infinity focus at the line (l) to the left of infinity. Very slight vignetting and slight distortion at the corners, but well within respectable tolerances. The submitted shot was taken in Bortel Scale 5 skies with a full moon at 45-50 degrees. Canon 7D II, ISO 400 2 sec., lens 16mm f/2 wide open with Hoya Pro 1 Digital protector in place (tripod). Very happy with this lens...a Great buy... Focus ring works great as does the stop ring, stops at 2.0 2.4, 2.8 etc.

[APS-C] I purchased this lens specifically for astro-photography. I wanted to photograph the Milky Way from my estate near Mammoth Lakes, CA where there is plenty of dark sky. I used a Nikon D7100 and the results exceeded my expectations. An outstanding lens! I also tried it on landscapes and achieved similar, outstanding results. It is now one of my favorite lenses.

[APS-C] I wanted to try more astrophotography shoots but didn't want to spend a fortune for a lens that would do the job. I saw a recommendation for this lens in an article on capturing the milky way. For the price this is a very nice piece of glass and is great for landscape and astrophotography. It has a nice wide aperture and wide angle making it ideal for what i was looking for in a lens. I also really like the fine adjustment of the focus. Most lenses have too sensitive of a focus making it difficult to get sharp crisp night sky pictures. I've taken some incredible pics with my Nikon D5000 and can't wait to try it out on my new D750 i just ordered. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an affordable landscape, cityscape, and astrophotography lens. It does the job and doesn't disappoint.

[f/22] I purchased this lens for landscape photography with my Sony A6000 primarily. For my first manual lens, it was easy to get accustomed to. The focus ring is smooth, the aperture ring is stout, and the overall build quality feels really great. The best part of the lens is definitely the image quality. For the price, can you get any sharper? I also use this lens for action shots in mountain biking and it does really well for that as well.
