Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is 35mm aperture equivalent?

A: If I understand your question you are not asking about the field of view, which is 35mm equivalent, but the aperture. If I am not incorrect, a f/3.5 is a f3.5, it requires the same amount of light as a 35mm lens, stopped down to 3.5. But the DOF is not the same. I never thought about it and couldn't find examples, so I played with a DOF simulator using the X1D vs 5DmkIII since I think it represents a standard full frame, and I found:This 45mm at f3.5 on a medium format camera gives the same DOF as a 35mm at 2.5 on a full frame camera (based on my research). So I guess it's not like a 1.2, but I have used it a lot and I can tell you, it's a stunning lens, you won't find people asking if you can get a shallower DOF, they will just remark on how amazing the photos look. The 90mm 3.2 is also an amazing lens.

Q: 2. With a Nikon D750, do I use Aperture priority? Is this lens difficult to learn how to use?

A: Yes, you do. The instructions in the manual will tell you to use Aperture. I use the D750 also. Lensbaby are all manual focus so it can be a challenge to use. My eyes are not the best so I do have to work at the focusing. I just bought the Velvet 85 and it is challenging also. But that being said, I love this little lens! It really can be fun. Here is a shot I did with the Sol 45. https://www.flickr.com/photos/kellykayhorne/48922189672/in/dateposted/

Q: 3. Is this lens parfocal?

A: The Sigma 28-45mm f/1.8 DG DN Art Lens (Leica L) is not a parfocal lens.

Q: 4. Can this lens be configured to adapt to a Nikon Z mount? What will it require?

A: The Sigma 28-45mm f/1.8 DG DN Art Lens (Sony E) is very new and has not been tested with lens adapters. However, one of these may work: https://bhpho.to/3Xbf5D5.

Q: 5. My Canon R6 won't shoot with the Sol 45mm. I get F00 message. What's wrong?

A: As the Lensbaby Sol 45mm f/3.5 Lens for Canon EF Cameras is a fully manual lens and has no electronic contacts, the Canon EOS R6 Mirrorless Camera does not know a lens is connected when using this lens on the camera. As such, you would need to go into the camera's menu under the Custom Function Menu (Tab 4), and under [Release Shutter w/o Lens], select [ON: Enable], which will allow you to release the shutter of your camera when using the Lensbaby Sol 45mm f/3.5 Lens for Canon EF Cameras (or a third-party lens with a manual lens adapter).

Q: 6. There are two images of this lens. One is very short, like a pancake. The other is longer. Can you please explain the two different looks? I am looking at this for a Canon R5, if that matters.

A: Lensbaby desing this lens in 2 different size for different camera mounts. The correct image for the Canon RF mount is the third image in our website which is the largest version. The lens dimensions are 63mm x72mm (LxW), with a front diamter of 46mm to attach filters.

Q: 7. How is this different from a Lensbaby Sweet 50mm lens?

A: The main difference is how they mount to the camera. The Sweet 50 requires a Composer Pro lens to attach to the camera while the Sol 45mm has a direct lens mount.

Q: 8. What is the country of origin for the XCD lenses?

A: The country of origin for this lens is Sweden.

Q: 9. Is this comparable with. Nikon D5000?

A: No it is not. This is for the newer mirrorless cameras not the DSLRs.

Q: 10. Is this lens constant volume when zooming and/or focusing , or does the front extend?

A: The Sigma 28-45mm f/1.8 DG DN Art Lens (Sony E) has an internal zoom, it maintains the overall length while zooming and focusing.

[46 mm (Front)] Lensbaby Sol 45mm is quality instrument. I've used it in several settings and it performs exactly as advertised. I really liked using manual focusing as well as the ability to change the focal point, to direct the eye to a particular place on the image. The lens also feels great in your hands.

[45mm] I bought this on a whim thinking it would enhance some nature photography shots of flowers. Being winter, I've been shooting other subjects and I'm loving how the lens can be used to direct the viewer's focus to a specific region of the photo. While I thought my use of this lens would be very limited, I'm finding that experimenting with a wide range of subjects is yielding very good and very interesting results. (though I keep hearing do you know your photos are blurry?). I'm still experimenting and can't wait till spring, but this lens is a very welcome addition.

[2] Lensbaby hit a home run with this little lens ! The sweet spot stays in the frame ( no worries ) and the aperture is fixed ( again, no worries ).
So far, I've used it on my Canon 77D for urban landscapes and for tabletop Still Lifes.
Great lens - I love it !

[46 mm (Front)] If you love everything about Lensbaby lenses, this should be on top of the list! This is my second Lensbaby product and it's not at all disappointing! If you follow through how to use Lensbaby in general with manual focus, this is super easy to adapt and the bokeh is simply beautiful.

[46 mm (Front)] I recently purchased the Velvet 56 for my Canon 90D and was thrilled with the results. What I really like about the SOL 45 is that if you do not need to step down to 5.6 and higher, fixed at 3.5 will produce sharp images in the center and dreamy on the edges. Superb construction and very small! The price is a real bargain for a product of this high quality! You must use Live View and focus tweaking to get the best images. The small focus ring in the front is easy to use once you practice using it. This lens is like carrying a special effects lab on the front of your camera!

[46 mm (Front)] I have the Sweet 35 with Composer Pro. I've had it for years. For sure it's challenging but I bring it out when I'm feeling creative and occasionally get some very nice images. Using Sony focus peaking really helps... But I find the Composer to be a bit fussy and fumbly. When I saw the Sol the other day, I was impressed that it's smaller. Taking out the aperture variable also seemed like it would make the process easier. At the price point and with B&H's return policy I gave it a go and got it in 24 hours!... I did a quick dozen shots on my A9- yes the Sol supports full frame. I got a couple of images that look very good. The sharp parts are way sharp the the out of focus parts are so buttery- haven't tried the bokeh blades yet.... The Sol just seems like it's more solid and easier to use than the Composer. It's like a little rock- heavier than expected... It's a keeper...

[Manual Focus] I've enjoyed playing with this lens, and am thrilled with the pictures. There is a bit of a learning curve. I initially thought it would not work but I just had to change the settings to allow the camera to take a picture without a lens. I almost gave up before discovering that secret.
