Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the paper grain parallel to the short side or the long side?

A: Canson Infinity Rag Photographique Duo 220gsm, is grain short (grain direction is aligned with the shortest dimension of the sheet) to facilitate potentially folding pages when presented horizontally.

Q: 2. I purchased 2 boxes of Canson's Platine Fibre Rag paper from B&H back in December. I now have a Canon imageprograf 300 printer. I've downloaded the icc profile from Canson's site. The accompanying pdf recommends that in PS, the media paper type should be set at "Matte Paper". However, the label on the box describes the paper as "Ultra Smooth Glossy".  Would anyone have a suggestion as to the correct media type for this paper?

A: You can download the AM1X profile from the Carson website and then it will be available as a custom paper for you to select. https://www.canson-infinity.com/en/icc-profiles?fp=485&lc=en

Q: 3. I need a double sided fine art paper for a promo I'm doing. Image on one side, text on the other. What are my options?

A: I have attached a link for some 2 sided fantastic pro photo paper.

Q: 4. Has anyone been able to compare prints on these papers with the glossy/satin versions?

A: For photos that are going to be moved around, matte will be better. Not only is it less sensitive when it comes to fingerprints, it's also more resistant to light and doesn't create any reflection. Images with dark tones will have much more contrast.

Q: 5. I have a Epson Stylus Pro 4880, I need to know if my printer will handle the 310 gsm paper?

A: After reviewing the question yes it can take 310 gsm paper

Q: 6. Can this paper be used with large format Canon printer ?

A: I never tried , but probebly....I use it with an Epson 3880 ....

Q: 7. Is there a gloss (lustre) differential between the unprinted (white) areas and the printed areas? I like Museo Silver Rag because it does not exhibit this differential, but the paper is very expensive.

A: I don't remember any gloss difference; however I bought this paper for testing to replace Ilford smooth pearl after Ilford went bankrupt. My go to art paper is Canson platine. I use these mid priced luster papers for printing photo exhibits for my law practice and law firm. I assumed that the Canson paper would be OK and consistent from lot to lot. This Canson paper was better than epson luster but lacked the contrast/ pop and feel of the Ilford(310gsm instead of 270) that really seems to impress both Jurors and Judges.

Q: 8. Back before Christmas I purchased two boxes of Canson Infinity Platine Fibre Rag paper (8.5x11 and 13x19) from B&H. I now have a new Canon imageProGraf 300 printer. I've downloaded the ICC profile for this paper, but Canson does not indicate the "Media Type" setting that I should use in PS or LR. Could anyone advise me what media setting I should use?

A: You can probably use Luster or Exhibition Fiber which is also in the semi gloss family. Please note: being that the TM300 is only a 4 color printer not really for photos or fine art, you can't expect to get the exact color on prints anyway. You'll need a printer like the Pro 4100.

Q: 9. is this paper archival?

A: No, the Canson Infinity PhotoGloss Premium RC Paper is not archival.

Q: 10. is this compatible with the canon pima pro 100?

A: Yes, it is compatible and it is best to use the printer specific ICC profiles for the Canson Infinity Platine Fibre Rag Paper and the Canon PIXMA PRO-100 Wireless Professional Inkjet Photo Printer when printing. This can be found with the drop down filters at the link here: https://www.canson-infinity.com/en/icc-profiles?fp=485

[310 gsm] I compared this paper to epson papers and the canson's white was superior.

[1.57 lb] Arches 88 is my standard matte paper for fine art prints. It’s smooth bright without OBA’s and has a great feel.

[25x Sheet Paper] The Pure white version of this stock is as bright white as the Arches Aquarelle. It is also as heavy. Like the Aquarelle, the texture is randomized. But, it is milder than the Aquarelle. If the level of coarseness of the Arches Aquarelle is 5 then the BFK Rives is 3. It has a deep D-max for a matte fine art stock. But, once again Canson has been able to achieve a bright white without OBAs. So, the contrast range is very impressive. If one feels that a warmer stock is required for the work to be printed, then the BFK Rives white is the go to. It is clearly warmer than the Pure White version. Otherwise, they are identical.

[Matte] This paper has a highly refined surface; other manufacturers should take a close look and think about how their matte surfaces compare. So far I've made a single-chart profile that was more than sufficient to make an excellent proof, and that convinced me to order the "regular" white surface as well. One thing that sets these papers apart, as a pair, is that their base colors are close (it seems to me) and this provides for a subtler choice between two matte surfaces of the same "line."

The slight premium you pay for this paper is hardly a disincentive to use it. I believe this product shows that there is a bit of room in the market for a few more premium papers.

[Matte] I am a user of Canson papers and was looking for a 5x7 matte. This paper was purchased based on the reviews and did not disappoint. Printing in both color and B&W the detail was preserved and color maintained. I certainly recommend this paper.

[Cotton Rag] This paper is as gorgeous as its traditional sister. I scanned and printed (large) sunflower petals, and many have remarked that the paper has a faint velvety fuzz, just like a real sunflower. That's why I chose it! SO much character in an inkjet paper. It holds an astounding level of detail without looking computer-y or even traditionally photographic.

[310 gsm] This paper produces amazing prints. A lovely matte finish with moderate texture. B&H do a great job shipping photo paper, no damage etc.

[85%] I used mostly Canson Papers, this has some texture, but not as much as Hahndmuhle William Turner, works well for me.
