This is a tungsten-balanced Mole-Richardson BabyLED 150W 6.0" Fresnel with DMX. Fresnels have been a staple in Hollywood since 1936 and little has changed except the use of better materials with more precise construction techniques.

While nobody had a problem with the Fresnel's quality of light, heat and electrical draw was another story. It's why you see so many movie people walking around the set with heat-resistant gloves. And of course frying the talent could bring the production to a screeching halt. Then there are scrims - the only way to knock down the output without changing the color temperature.

Enter the MoleLED Fresnel line. Apart from the black powder-coated finish, the BabyLED head looks and performs the same as a legacy light allowing you to swap a standard light for a BabyLED or mix them. In fact there's a retro-fit kit available to convert your old style light to an LED.

On-board local 100-10% dimming means you'll probably be restricting your scrimming to half-scrims, saving you a lot of ladder climbing. Besides comfort, you'll be saving on air-conditioning and running costs in the studio. The BabyLED's maximum draw is 0.75-1.5A as compared to the legacy light's 8.3A, up to an 80% reduction in energy consumption. This means that you can run many more LEDs instead of legacy lights without raising the temperature. Let's also consider the cost and downtime of re-lamping. LEDs last about 50,000 hours and are virtually maintenance-free.

If you're not sold already, the control features will close the deal. Not only does the BabyLED have on-board local dimming but it's also DMX 512 compatible, so you can remote control 1 or 100 BabyLEDs from a central console by simply daisy-chaining them together.

The 90-250 VAC BabyLED has a 6.0" lens, passive cooling and aluminum alloy and steel construction. It has 10 to 55-degree spot to flood variation and a 5/8" receiver for standard Baby pin. The #18 AWG power cable is 25' long and ends in a NEMA 5-15 Edison (US) plug.

MoleLED Fresnels are powered by a proprietary, patent-pending Mole-Richardson Quantum Dot chip on-board LED module. The benefit of QD LED technology is the ability to specifically tune the visible wavelength at the nano scale which, in this case, allows for precise adjustment of the red spectrum without impacting the overall light output of the LED.

    Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Do the bulbs blow as easily as lowel pro light bulbs?

A: Do you touch the bulb when placing it in the fixture? One of the first things I was taught on my first job was never touch a bulb when inserting it into the fixture. The oils on your hand gets on the bulb and when turned on, the oils heat up and the bulb will blow. I've had both Arri's(currently this 150 and a 300) and Lowel lights over the years and never had bulbs go out prematurely in either brand. While I believe Arri makes a more durable light than Lowel, you shouldn't have bulb issues if A) Buy a quality bulb, B) Never touch the bulb and C) Handle your lights with more care than an ABC7 news crew.

Q: 2. What are the dimensions of the light itself? Looking to mount this to a wall, concerned w/ buying the correct baby pin adapter

    A: The CAME-TV Boltzen MKII 150W Bi-Color LED Fresnel is approxemelty, 16 x 9.5 x 7.5"

Q: 3. Does this light kit include the light stands or are they a separate item?

A: The kit BH #IKSFB1502PTK • MFR #SFB150-2PT-KIT does include the stands.

Q: 4. How long is the upper part, that is, the part above the wide section that has the screw lock? I'm looking for something that will allow my Matthews Hollywood arm to sit on my Manfrotto light stands more securely (i.e., sit on a stud long enough to use the whole length of the mounting hole in the Hollywood arm. B&H # MAHWHA40B. The other studs I've tried won't allow the hole in the arm to go fully down onto the mounting stud on the light stand.

    A: I measured 1 15/16 inches.

Q: 5. What type of connection does the ballast have for power? Stand Edison plug?

A: The ballast for this fresnel does have a standard Edison plug on the end.

Q: 6. Can I plug this light directly to wall outlet?

    A: Yes

Q: 7. Is there a speed ring for a Chimera Video Pro-small that fits this light?

A: There does not seem to be a speedring that fits the ikan Stryder Fanless Bi-Color 150W LED Fresnel Light with DMX.

Q: 8. What are the photometrics of the light? How many foot candles at 6', or 15' at 3200 and 5600?

A: Unfortunately, Mole-Richardson only lists photometrics for the 200W Varimole LED fixture at 10 feet (3 meters). At 3200K, the unit outputs 55 FC (539 Lux) at 10 feet (3 meters), and at 5600K, the unit outputs 67 FC (717 Lux) at 10 feet (3 meters). They do not list measurements at 6 feet or 15 feet.

Q: 9. The specs say power consumption at 98W, but the name says 150W - which is correct for the max power consumption?

A: Correct the ikan Stryder Fanless Bi-Color 150W offers the following. Power Consumption: 98W Power Supply: 110-240VAC; Output: 12V@12.5A

Q: 10. Mole-Richardson, I didn't see photometrics on this model on your website. Could you please provide some? How many footcandles at 10 feet, so I could compare this to some other models, apples-to-apples?

A: According to Mole Richardson, this LED fresnel would produce 2000 foot candles at 10 feet. Please see page 12 of the following PDF for more information.http://bit.ly/28Jyodh

[3200K] Looking at the product photo, I was concerned that it was going to feel cheap. Turns out to be a solid piece of metal.

[1x LED Fresnel] Nothing to change on your fixtures just change the bulb and enjoy an even powerful light! I recommend it

[1x LED Fresnel] This does exactly what I needed it to do. My light stand connection was jut a fraction too small and that made my light wobble. Now everything is tight and secure.

[150 W ] The 153 Mole Richardson Baby Adapter is the only adapter I use on my light stands to secure my lights or grips to.. They are extremely reliable and durable. No other adaptor comes close.

[Tungsten] This converts my Giottos light stands into baby pin stands - giving me far more options coupled with the Avenger grip heads - for silks and light blockers.

[3200K] I love my old Mole Richardson with its smooth flood and spot through the classic fresnel lens. Now I can use it with a low-heat, low electrical draw LED at 5K color temp. The only negative is a very slight humming sound from the ReLamp itself. It is so low that I decided to keep it and use it anyway. As long as its not closer than 5 feet from a mic, I believe it will be fine. Now I can do Hollywood Lighting!

[1x LED Fresnel] Traditional Mole Richardson build quality but slightly less heavy than our Juniors. I highly recommend this fixture for it's durability and light quality. Color dial-able 2400-6000K roughly. These are a good value in my opinion. I'm not associate with Mole in any way.

[Fresnel] Purchased to adapt a baby 5/8 light stand head to accept a Mole-Richardson junior Model 412 Fresnel spotlight. Using it in reverse of what I believe the intended purpose was but on a sturdy stand, the weight is supported quite well.

[150 W ] Good to have if you want to attach a relatively heavy equipment in order to be sure that it is really secure.

[6-5/8" (Scrim)] I've been lighting with Mole Tungsten for years and keep seeing LEDs show up on set. I test every one I come across but I'm usually very disappointed. After trying the first gen Mole LED single temp and finding them much better, I bought a couple of these 200W Varimole LEDs as a test. I've immediately invested in 400W and 900W lights because these 200W Varimoles are by far the best LEDs I've worked with to date. Color temp runs from 2400-6000K (their spec says 2700-5600K). Brightness is equal to a tweenie (650W). The beam on these is not focusable but it casts a sharp cutable beam. One of the big differences between the Mole and other brands is the build quality. Every other LED I've see looks and feels like a toy or at least not a professional tool. Except Aadyntech which are monsters (but credit due for being early useable LEDs on set and location). The Moles are build very similar to Mole tungsten with heavy duty yokes, cords, switches etc. These are built to be used every day and last. I'm included some pics because Mole doesn't do a good job of showing off these lights. Full disclosure on my bias, I dislike the quality of panel lights and Kino type lights.
