The 86mm Urth Soft Graduated ND8 Lens Filter 86mmfrom Urth Soft Graduated ND8 Lens Filter 86mmprovides a fixed 3 f-stop light reduction from half your image for balanced exposure and better dynamic range in soft graduated light conditions. By blocking 3 f-stops of light from half the image, you can balance your exposure when the foreground is darker than the background - such as shooting landscapes in the mountains. The soft graduation creates a natural blending of light. The Plus+ range features 20-layers of nano-coating providing easier cleaning and better protection against water, oil, and scratches. These layers also provide a higher maximum light transmission and a more consistent transmission curve for truer light reduction.

Q: 2. Does anyone know the diameter of this filter's larger top area?

A: While the Urth ND2-400 (1-8.6 Stop) Variable ND Lens Filter (82mm) has filter threads that connect to 82mm filters, the manufacturer does not indicate the exterior diameter of this filter in their specifications.

Q: 7. Many variable neutral density filters either cause a color shift at darker settings or the dreaded "X-effect" on wide angle lenses. Does this filter suffer from those issues?

A: Any variable ND over 6-7 stops can create the X-effect. And that is the deign and physics of a variable ND filter. And it depends on the lens you are using and the light you are shooting under. As for the color shift almost all have some color shift including the Urth ND2-400 (1-8.6 Stop) Variable ND Lens Filter (77mm). These are higher models of filters, https://bhpho.to/3TSB4JH

[Glass] I use this filter for scenery photography, where part of the area to be photographed is over exposed. I can't image going in the field with this filter.

[Glass] This is a big, heavy, tough filter. I think this will be the last ND filter I will ever buy. Kinda surprised how thick 4mm is. Wouldn't shock me if it was bullet proof. Glad I went with the glass filter, I had plastic filters ,they are cheap, but scratches too easily.

[Multi Coated] Trying URTH filter for the first time. Normally use B+W filters, but they are getting way too expensive. I like that URTH packaging is completely recyclable and they have a tree planting initiative when you purchase any of their products. Using the filter on a Nikon zoom 24-120mm lens. So far too good!

[Multi Coated] Thank You for your excellent service. The ND filter arrived and was to be a gift, so use hasn't occurred yet. I just like B&H- rather than some of the other vendors. Sincerely, C.

[86 mm] I've been a fan of Urth products for a couple of years. I wanted a Grad ND filter and this one fit the bill. It works well and the soft edge makes it very useful. Also, having it be able to turn so that the ND part can be moved from top to bottom and everywhere in between is a big plus.

[Glass] I am slowly increasing my photographic skills and about 3 years ago purchased my first GND filters from a competitor. I thought they were nice but have noticed less of the color cast with the Lee filters. Also, in 3 years time the others developed a lot of scratches that had to be photoshopped out (despite trying to be meticulous in handling them). I am very optimistic about the Lee filters based on other reviews but I guess only time will tell.

[Multi Coated] The Urth 39mm UV Lens Filter (Plus+) is a must-have for any photographer. It provides outstanding clarity and reduces haze without affecting image quality, while also adding a solid layer of protection for my lens. The build quality feels premium, and it’s a perfect fit. Plus, knowing it's sustainably made makes it even better. Highly recommended!
