Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. will this work with the wimberley gimbal?

A: In theory, since there is an opening for the lens collar/foot, it should work. In practice though, it might be a little cumbersome to use and balance when on the Wimberley gimbal. I'd recommend practicing/attempting to balance lens on your gimbal at home before taking it out onto the field.

Q: 2. Any suggestions as to best camp pattern? Arctic trip (only 1) and safaris in Africa top list. I am thinking digital as it seems to just break up the lens but new to this

A: Unfortunately, there is not one particular LensCoat pattern designed for use both in Arctic conditions and in jungle/savannah environments. Most photographers that will be shooting in multiple locations will purchase multiple lens coats. If you will only be taking each trip once and you do not want to invest in multiple lens coats, you may either use the lens as-is, or purchase the pattern for the location in which you think you will take the most images. The Digital Camo option would be good for arctic conditions and may have slightly more flexibility, but the color may stand out in sandy or wooden environments found in the jungle/savannah, for which the Realtree Max5 may be a better option.

Q: 3. can we purchase the lens barrel cover separately, i lost mine?

A: Sorry. The lens barrel cover is not sold separately in the LensCoat Lens Cover for Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 IS II (Realtree Max4 Camo).

Q: 4. Will it protect the lens from dust and light rain?

A: Yes, this will help from dust and light rain, though it is not offer full water resistant, as it doesn't completely cover the lens.

Q: 5. Sorry I have another question. I am really considering buying this wrap. But it is costly! Do you really feel it gets you closer to birds if you are also wearing camo clothes and hat? What if you are not wearing camo clothes, then does it even matter? Thank you.

A: I would say that it can, provided you are stealthy in other ways as well (no sudden movements, camo clothes). Breaking up the head profile is important, because birds get most nervous when they perceive they are being looked at. But it won't fool birds all the time, and there are limits. The wrap also protects your lens from scratches, so you could look at it as an investment, if you ever want to sell your lens one day.

Q: 6. I have a Nikon 810 with a Tamron 150-600mm G2. Does anyone have experience with this lens and this specific LensCoat RainCoat 2 Pro Camera Cover? If so, does it cover the entire setup?

A: I use this with a canon 7d mark ii and 5d mark 3. Great choice if you cannot afford Canon 500mm or 600mm Prime , these are the best lens by far even if they are used.Only problem with G2 I did not like was adding a 1.4 converter with it.They might have improved on the 1.4 by nowJust remember you need more light with the G2 Have fun

Q: 7. Good afternoon,Will the Rain Coat 2 cover a 600mm f4 mounted on a Kirk KC-1 King Cobra Gimbal Tripod Head? Or will I have to use a ball head?Thank you for your help.

A: The rain coat will not work with a Gimbal head like the Kirk KC-1 King.

Q: 8. Will the rain coat 2 work with 500 f/4 IS USM and a Induro GHB2 gimbal head?

A: I use it with a Nikon 600mm lens, D4S body, Wimberley gimbal head (210 I think) on a big Gitzo tripod. Works great. The two hand/arm holes are terrific in a downpour! Nice to have the front hood you can just slip over the front of the lens when not actually shooting.

Q: 9. Is this an all one piece cover or several pieces? Is it easy to take on and off?

A: It is made up of 6 pieces that simply slip over the lens. I don't use the piece that covers the lens when fully extended as you can't zoom out with it on. It can be cumbersome when manually focusing or using the zoom tension ring with the covers on. Since I don't often use those features it's of little concern to me.I also cut the clear plastic out of the section that covers the IS and AF switches so they are easier to access.Overall, it's a decent product. It does it's job to help protect the lens and hide the whiteness of it.

Q: 10. Will the lenscoat bodyguard CB work with this cover?

A: The camera could be in the LensCoat BodyGuard CB when using the LensCoat RainCoat 2 Pro Camera Cover.

[0.05 lb] I purchased this for my 70-200mm f2.8 for a football game that I had field access and for which I was not sure what the weather was going to be during the game. I wanted some general protection and this was it. It comes in 3 small sections that you slide over your lens & lens hood. They all fit very snug and there was no worry that it would move or fall off at any time. As it turned out, the game night weather was clear, but very cold. I had this lens on a 2nd body with a Black Rapid strap. It was great to pull up the 2nd camera/lens and not feel the cold metal of the 70-200mm barrell. The cover does not impact your access to the focus or zoom ring. I am not sure how the cover would do in more severe weather but I like that it does give basic protection from keeping it on sling hanging from my side.

[0.05 lb] Cover fits like a glove. All sections fit tight and take some effort to get in place. But this means the cover is not going anywhere. Sections are available for the entire lens, but I chose to leave the focus and control ring uncovered. I just prefer the feel of the actual lens. Would recommend this for anyone who want some extra protection for their lens.
