A high-class build quality, true-stereo operation, and sweet sounding EQ curves are now available in the 500 format, all thanks to the elysia xfilter 500. This four-band EQ is perfect for adding passive-style top-end sheen, low-end heft, or midrange sculpting to any stereo source. Consider it for pianos, strings, drums, and more.

Separating itself from many competitors, the xfilter 500 provides precision stereo-matching amongst its dual channels, doing so with one set of controls per stereo band. It's also available at a price point many users would consider to be a bargain for the quality it offers. The 500-series unit sports high and low shelves as well as high and low midrange controls. The shelves can be switched to resonant high- and low-pass filters at the press of a button.

The xfilter 500 is all about details. Its design and component scheme has been refined many tims over. Every single part of the board is custom, made to Elysia's renowned standards in their German headquarters.

The xfilter 500 is a true linked stereo EQ in the 500 series format. It gives you the expensive sound of an all class-A equalizer for a wide open sound, doing so with a precise stereo image based on computer-selected, stepped potentiometers, and low tolerance film capacitors.

As one of the few exceptions in the market, the xfilter 500 processes both of its channels with just one set of controllers, making it a true stereo EQ.

Using an analog EQ on a stereo buss can be quite tricky, as only very few units offer the possibility to link their two mono channels for true stereo processing. As a result, the user must often fiddle around with knobs and test tones in order to cope with the tedious task of matching the settings for both channels. The problem gets only worse when the controllers do not have any steps for reference.

There are many compressors in the market that can be linked for stereo operation, but component tolerances makes this difficult for EQ. Obviously, you want both channels to behave in exactly the same manner, but the componentry's natural tolerances counteract this ideal characteristic. The xfilter 500 solves this problem by using computer-selected dual- and quad-layer pots as well as special low-tolerance caps.

The special series of film caps used for the xfilter performs twice as well as the industry standard, in terms of component tolerance.

The xfilter 500 is absolutely serious about flexibility. It offers high and low shelf bands, which can be switched into high- and low-cut filters with resonance. Also on hand are two midrange parametric filters with wide and narrow Q as well as additional passive LC stages with shielded coils for a glorious top end.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How does the 1/2X tracking rate work. It's supposed to allow you to have the sky and also the ground without any blurring of the ground portion of the image. Has anyone tried this? How does it work? Thanks.

A: It cuts down the movement tracking There are some YouTube video demonstrations

Q: 2. It seems that if you point a camera on this mount any other way but North, it would track the wrong way. Am I wrong?

A: Yes. If you are in the northern hemisphere, the iOptron SkyGuider Pro EQ Camera Mount needs to be pointed to true north as the first step in the alignment process.

Q: 3. I've read that the skyguider pro's alt-az base has difficulty in the north, especially above 45-50°. Has anyone had any experience? It might be the deciding factor for which tracker I buy since I live in Canada.

A: In our experience it works fine at 50 degrees latitude or even farther north.

Q: 4. In his instructional video, Peter Zelinka recommends removing any "plates" from telephoto lenses and attaching the lens using the lens collar foot only. Any thoughts on this?

A: In principle it is a good choice. Using the lens collar allows addition adjustments to the lens.

Q: 5. Will this work for a Celestron CGE Eq mount?

A: Yes it should work.

Q: 6. Will this tracker work in the Southern Hemisphere?

A: I have not taken is south of the equator yet, but yes, it has a setting for the southern hemisphere and the polar alignment scope has the ring for Sigma Octanis to do a polar alignment in the southern hemisphere.

Q: 7. will this work with a Benro 3 way geared head?

A: The iOptron SkyGuider Pro EQ Camera Mount BH #IO3550 • MFR #3550 will work on any tripod legs with a 3/8"-16 stud or any tripod head with a 1/4"-20 stud.

Q: 8. Can a Wimberly Quick Release Plate (P-10) be attached to the base of the iOptron to slide into a Really Right Stuff Quick Release Clamp?

A: The Base is for Vixen Style Plates only. This will not work with a Wimberly Plate.

Q: 9. Just to be clear, this comes with the mount head (tracker), the altazimuth base, dec bracket, and counterweight?

A: Yes. Just to confirm, according to the inventory of items in the box, it comes with: iOptron SkyGuider Pro EQ Camera Mount Alt-Az Base Padded Carrying Bag Counterweight Shaft 3-pound Counterweight Vixen-Style Dovetail Saddle Declination Mounting Bracket Micro-USB Battery Charging Cable Limited 1-Year Warranty Limited 90-Day Warranty on Battery

Q: 10. I'm interested to hear from anyone who used this during the solar eclipse. Would you recommend this?Thank you,Mike

[2x] This EQ is a perfect fit for my Transmitting station. I can adjust the audio to just the way I want it to sound before it hits the final PA and over the air. I use this with my Heil Microphone and a small mixer. Will be buying another one for the other channel.

[1.755 lb] A solid, well designed product with clean , smooth sliders. Easy to set up. No separate power switch so you need to power it from a switched component. Most other consumers seem to use the 215 for applications OTHER than home stereo , but I use it to listen to a variety of music, both rock AND punk. Great for tailoring your stereo to any room.

[1.755 lb] I purchased the dbx 231s primarily to enhance my experience playing 78 rpm records. Even with a proper turntable, cartridge and stylus, the issue that remains is the fact that 78s were produced with a variety of equalization curves (that's plural!). A current standard phono preamp with RIAA equalization cannot properly reproduce the 78 recordings. There are a number of off the shelf devices designed to solve this problem, ranging from quite inexpensive (and useless!) to astronomically pricey and not much in between. Following up on some thoughtful advice and some of my own getting into the weeds on this, I'm finding that the graphic equalizer is a satisfying solution.

[1.755 lb] This unit sounds amazing, I use it on vocals and set the EQ just enough to add some color on the highs. But this unit is definitely staying in the studio.

[500 Series] Nice set of mixer features at this price point. 3-Band EQ with -30dB does a good job of killing bass. The channel faders are smooth, seems like they're log faders so you have good control at the top half of the range. The crossfader feels alright, but is somewhat noisy toward the ends of the range using the gradual CF slope. The noise is less apparent with the sharp CF slope. I tend to use the channel faders for mixing, so I can avoid using the gradual CF slope. Overall, I think this mixer is a great value.
