Celestron CGX Equatorial 800 HD Telescopeimproves on their venerable CGEM platform to provide users with a heavy-duty research-quality mount for large optical tube assemblies (OTAs), accessories, and imaging rigs. Engineered to carry a 55-pound payload, it has high-torque motors and heavy-duty belt-drive system to improve tracking stability and reduce backlash which enable it to smoothly and accurately track near- and deep-sky objects for long periods of time. Its Vixen/Losmandy dual dovetail saddle makes the mount compatible with most plates in use today.

The brain of the CGX EQ is the NexStar+ computer controller. Equipped with a database of 40,000 objects, including the planets, stars, nebulae, galaxies, and the complete Messier catalog, it can also be programmed with up to 100 user-defined objects and filters for custom lists. Its intuitive menu-driven user interface allows you to observe the heavens with nine slew speeds and three tracking rates, plus anti-backlash compensation and Permanent Periodic Error Correction (PPEC) for smoother movements in the motors and improved tracking over time. Features such as guided tours, extended information on 200 popular objects, and multiple alignment options make the NexStar+ controller easy to use for new users and experienced stargazers.

StarSense Autoguider replaces all that—so even beginners can dive head-first into the world of imaging. The StarSense module does not include a GPS function. [57.1 lb] First of all, this is a 2 week Review. Therefore, not enough time for things to fail. The mount setup and alignment is awesome. The GOTO was spot on with images centered in a C14 scope at f/11. I couldn't do that with my old CGE mount without using the "Precise GoTo" function. The "All Star Polar Alignment" was easy using the large knobs to manually center the star. Cabling management for "Auto Guiding" keeps the cable from getting tangled. Firmware updating was simple. One problem was the lead time for an out of stock item. This was not a problem from BH Photo, but rather a problem from Celestron products not being manufactured in the US. It took 3 months to get the mount after it was ordered. 5

[57.1 lb] This C11 was a gift from a person who knew I loved telescopes. The Electronics no longer worked and was just taking up space in their garage. It has come to back to life with the CGX and is going to give me many years of great exploring the night sky. It is well built and very user friendly. Glad I chose this and the folks at B&H were great at answering my questions without pressure to “purchase now”! So far, it has exceeded my expectations! 5

[57.1 lb] The telescope is well made. The Edge HD series contains an added lens for a flat field with a 44mm image circle for full frame cameras. As received it is an f/10 with a long focal length of 2790mm excellent for planetary observation. With a reducer, 1953mm and with the Starizona Hyperstar V4, 540mm! This scope can be configured as 3 different telescopes. It also has mirror locks to manage mirror flop with an aftermarket focuser. 5

[57.1 lb] The scope is everything that I expected. The manuals, not so much. The manual was written for earlier versions and there are some changes as well as simply missing information. If you are good at reading technical manuals between the lines, this should not be a problem. The Web is your friend! 5

[57.1 lb] Having purchased this wonderful Telescope one can say it's a great Telescope for anyone who likes to get into Astronomy everything about this great Telescope is Excellent by having two eyepieces the 10 mm and the 20 mm Eyepiece is wonderful the eyepieces have rubber eyepiece guards to use when you wear glasses. the Tripod is great too. I have the Celestron Cometron 7 X 50 Binocular and I also have the Celestron Impulse Binocular 10 X 50 I also have the Celestron First Scope which is a reflector and I have the Celestron Star Pointer Red Dot Finderscope attached to my Celestron First Scope. I also have a Celestron Phogographic Video Tripod. All I can say is that Celestron makes and sells great products for Amature Astronomers. 5

[57.1 lb] The arm is very sturdy. The scope feels quality. Even when you tighten the alignment screws you can still rotate the constellation reticule to match up to the orientation of the stars. 5
