Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. If I want to use the MV7 with the Zoom H6 would I need a cloudlifter?

A: A Cloudlifter is recommended, as this Mic has low sensitivity and requires a lot of gain, which may increase noise. It does depend on the Mic Pre; see below. At a sensitivity of -55 dBv, the Shure MV7 would require 55dB of gain to achieve the same level as what is "heard" by MV7 diaphram. As an example, a Focusrite Solo has Mic Pre gain of: "Up to" +56 dB this means the Mic Pre Gain would have to be fully cranked to achieve unity gain. Please note that the higher the negative dBV, the lower the sensitivity. That is, a mic with a sensitivity of -56dBV is less sensitive than a mic with a sensitivity of -38dBV, but more sensitive than a mic with a sensitivity of -65dBV. A more logical way to look at it is to think about how much gain will be required to amplify the test signal up to a level of one volt (One Volt is the "Unity Gain" number), the level as supplied "Into" the microphone.

Q: 2. Will the USB and XLR work simultaneously? For example, is it possible to use the USB and headphones for an online interview, while also recording a WAV via XLR?

A: Yes, the Shure MV7 does allow you to record audio from the USB and XLR outputs at the same time.

Q: 3. is there a shock mount that will work with the MV7? and what is the best pop filter to use with it?

A: The MV7 has a built-in shock mount as well as a built-in pop filter so a separate shock mount and pop filter are not necessary. The mic's yoke mount can be attached directly to a studio arm or standard mic stand. The studio arm may provide better isolation. Like the SM7b which also has a built-in shock mount, the MV7 is not designed to be used with a separate shock mount. Although there is a built-in pop filter, i is possible to add a separate pop filter such as the Auray PFSS-55 Pop Filter with Gooseneck and Springloaded Clamp (B&H # AUPFSS55). The springloaded clamp makes it easy to attach to the mic's yoke mount or a studio arm or stand. You can find a variety of other compatible pop filters listed under the "Accessories" tab on the MV7 item page.

Q: 4. Is there a shock mount that will fit this microphone?

A: Sorry, no shockmount available for this microphone.

Q: 5. What is the diameter of the top section, will it hold a foba extension?

A: The clamp can work with items that are between,Minimum Jaw Diameter is 1.18 (30mm)Maximum Jaw Diameter is 1.38 (35mm)There are many Foba extensions. Technically if the one you are referring to is in between the sizes above it should fit.

Q: 6. What are the weight limitations that this will hold? If I'm using the C-stand riser what unit will this safely hold?

A: The manufacture does not list the support weight of the Kupo Pivoting Boom Arm Clamp. It is made to use a C stand column and most of those have a support weight of up to 22 lbs.

Q: 7. What is the inside diameter of the hole through the counterweight or equivalently the outside diameter of the boom arm this is designed to slide over ?

A: The K&M 21105 Counter Weight is designed for use on one-piece K&M boom arms with a 3/8" male thread or a tube diameter 0.6" (15mm). The Counter Weight itself is made of steel, has a height of 2.36" (60mm), a diameter of 1.97" (50mm), and weighs 28.2 oz. (0.8 kg).

Q: 8. ...can I use 2 Shure MV7 on 1 computer connected via USB at the same time?

A: The computer will only recognize one USB mic. Since the MV7 provides both USB and XLR output, you can use a USB audio interface with two XLR mic inputs. The interface would then connect to the computer via USB enabling use of both mics at the same time.

Q: 9. Does it fit the Rode Lavalier Go?

A: No, I don't think the Shure Snap-Fit Windscreen for DL4 and DH5 DuraPlex Microphones is going to work with the Rode Lavalier GO because the microphones that this windscreen is designed to fit are flat and the windscreen snaps on. As a better option for the Lavalier GO, you can use the WindTech Windscreen- 3/16" - 3-Pack, White (B&H # WI2300PW).

Q: 10. How does this mic compare to something like the Blue Yeti Pro?

A: There is no comparison, the Yeti Pro has 3 capsules and can be used for Mono or Stereo applications, the MV7 is a podcast microphone , with a single cardioid voice coil, and the output is Mono only.

[3-Pin LEMO] I bought this clip on mic to use with my Tenor and Alto sax. I was originally using a beta 87 on a stand, so at first I was worried about considerable quality loss: not so! I even use it with the cheaper shure pgx wireless system and it sounds great! I am gonna have to buy another one soon to keep them ready on both saxes instead of switching....I should have bought this years ago.

[5.5' / 1.67 m] I'm a sax player and this mic works great. The reproduction of clear sound quality is exactly what I need from a mic. The flexibility and mounting configurations make it a true joy to use. I would recommend it to my friends and buy another if needed.

[5.5' / 1.67 m] This a quality product that sounds great. I don't have a Shure wireless system and was hoping the mini XLR(TA4F) connector would fit my Carvin wireless belt pack. It did and I'm delighted...Also, the price was one of the best on the web. The only slight problem I'm working with right now is that the mic won't clip onto the bell of my clarinet. The clip isn't wide enough and doesn't open wide enough. However, I'm delighted to have this mic.

[0.1" / 1.6 mm] Before the purchase I was concerned with a. comfort level since I wear glasses, b. how secure would the mic be since I teach an exercise class which involves bending and sideways head movements, c. acoustic feedback (Behringer mp200bt PA system), d. quality of sound from the mic, including the pick-up of breathing sounds. I am very pleased that my concerns were unfounded. It is an excellent headworn mic. Would certainly recommend.

[0.1" / 1.6 mm] When used in conjunction with one of Shure's digital wireless systems this mic sounds pristine with trumpet and saxophone. I've tried many other horn mics before this and have come to the conclusion that this mic beats them all by a wide margin in terms of sound reproduction. BTW- this is the mic trumpeter Chris Botti uses in all his live performances.

[0.1" / 1.6 mm] Forgot to mention in my previous review not only is the headset mic fantastic B&H had it shipped to my house in a few days. That doesn't happen very often in Hawaii.
