The matte gray Schoeps CMC 1 is a miniature Colette Series microphone amplifier offering uncompromising high fidelity in a lightweight and ultracompact form factor for studio recording, broadcast, and live stage applications. Presented as an alternative to the renowned Schoeps CMC 6 amplifier, the CMC 1 is compatible with all existing MK mic capsules and Colette active accessories (available separately). It features a balanced XLR 3-pin output, compliance with 12 or 48V phantom power, and low current consumption. Its Schoeps RFI Shield provides high immunity from RF interference for a clean, low-noise signal. The CMC 1 supports the high maximum SPLs tolerated by the various MK mic capsules (available separately). A stand adapter is supplied with the CMC 1.

  • Complete, no-compromise alternative to the renowned CMC 6 amplifier
  • Electrical characteristics of the CMC 1 are equal to, or even better than, those of the CMC 6 (flat frequency response, very-low distortion, and constant output impedance across the audio frequency range)
  • Only 1.4" long (about a third the size of the CMC 6)
  • Weighs just 1.3 ounces
  • Fully compatible with all existing MK capsules and Colette active accessories such as the CUT 60 and RC tubes
  • Compatible with all accessories of the CCM series
  • Very-high immunity from RF interference with the Schoeps RFI Shield
  • Optimized RF protection of the CMC 1 makes it ideal for use with transmitters such as the Audio Limited A 10
  • Balanced, direct-coupled, Class-A output circuit
  • Output is filtered in the ultrasonic range to prevent interference, e.g. from camera autofocus

The Schoeps MK 2 is part of the Colette series of modular capsules designed for use with the CMC mic amplifiers. The linear frequency response of the MK 2 with respect to frontally incident sound waves results in a very natural sound for near-field recordings (i.e. in close proximity to the sound source). This capsule can be set up very close to the sound source without sounding too brilliant or harsh.

Please note that there is some directivity at high frequencies due to the physics of sound. Thus even with an omnidirectional microphone, it still matters which way the capsule is aimed. The MK 2 is often used for acoustical measurement, an application for which it has gained a considerable reputation.

  • Linear frequency response at 0° (free-field equalized)
  • For placement in close proximity to sound source
  • Ideal for close-miking instruments

This Schoeps stereo set comes with two CMC 1 microphone amps, two matched MK 2 capsules, a certificate of matching, two stand clamps, two foam windscreens, a hook-and-loop fastener cable strap, and a premium case.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What's the difference between the 6 and the 6U amplifier??? Thanks

A: TheCMC 6U is the a CMC 6 preamplifier that operates with phantom power. There are other CMC 6 models of this preamp that can operate with batteries or connect to wireless systems.

Q: 2. Is this unit rack mountable?

A: Yes the Technical Pro MM3000 is rack mountable. You probably have to remove the handles and mount them through the holes left after you remove the handles.

Q: 3. I had this amp tested and I found that it don't do 2000 watts?

A: 2000 watts peak power is the specification provided by the manufacturer. This peak rating only indicates the unit can handle a short burst at this wattage. This is not the average or RMS output of the unit which is a more real world indication of the capabilities of this amp. These specs are not available from the manufacturer.

Q: 4. Hello! With this microphone amplifier, will I still need phantom power to connect a condenser microphone to a camera like the Sony A7SIII, or a recorder like the Atomos Ninja V? If so, what do you recommend?

A: This amplifier is designed to work with the Shoeps MK series capsules, and will still require phantom power to run.

Q: 5. what is the speaker output OHMS required for each channel ?

A: This mixer/amp can handle speakers between 4 and 16 OHMS.

Q: 6. I am wondering if I could connect wireless Microphone to this amplifier? If so, is there any instructions on how to do that? Thank you!

A: The Technical Pro MM2000 does not have a receiver built into it for direct compatibility with a wireless mic transmitter. This means that you would need to use an external wireless mic system, where the receiver is connected to one or both of your mic inputs on the Technical Pro MM2000, like the VocoPro Digital-32 for example (BH #VODIGITAL32U).

Q: 7. Which size for at 35mm 1.4 Art Sigma for Canon lens?

A: The Lensbaby OMNI Ring Set (Large) covers lenses from 62mm to 82mm so it will fit the 67mm thread on the Sigma 35mm Art lens.

Q: 8. Hey guys, is this product the right one to get if I plan on using with a SD 633 mixer which can supply 48V phantom? It's confusing to know whether I need this or the more expensive $1900 mic. How does it compare with Senn 8060 or MKH 50? Is this mic no good in humid conditions or with possible RF interference?

A: Thank you for your Question. If humidity and RF are a big concern i would highly recommend sticking with the 8060. The Schoeps is great but it does not have built in protections again humidity or RF interference.

Q: 9. What is a good schock mount/suspension holder to fit this microphone? I realize this mic is predominantly used indoors, but if I am in a situation where I need to use it outside, what product to reduce wind effect will fit this mic?

A: I have a Rycote Blimp with a lyre mount for bad windy conditions and the usual dead kittens for general breezes. But you said it yourself, this is an indoor mic. Moreover, it is a short mic so not so great at a distance of more than a few feet unless you have an amplified audio target. If you have critical audio needs outdoors, your better bet is to rent a good shotgun mic or buy something like the Sennheiser 416, Sanken Cs3, or Schoeps CMIT if you want to go all in. I have used the CMC6 outdoors (without needing a blimp). If you can get in close, it's OK but at say four or five feet, I don't know that the 'Schoeps' difference is any longer in effect. These weren't scientific shootouts and audio environments vary but I suspect plain old microphone physics trump German engineering at a certain distance.

Q: 10. Would this Rycote Windshield Kit accommodate the DPA 4018C combination?

A: The DPA will be too long to fit in this windsheild.

[Gray] In short: low self-noise, improved isolation from room reverb, balanced frequency response, needs an audio recorder with quality preamps

I used to run a shotgun mic into my Canon C70 for all my interviews, indoor or outdoor, and now my workflow and quality has improved dramatically. I find this microphone well balanced across the frequency range, with soft s sibilance and no boominess in low or mid-range frequencies. It does a slightly better job at isolating from room reverb, which results in greater source sound clarity. You need to pair this mic with the clean preamps of an equally exceptional audio recorder to really appreciate the sound, as the self-noise levels of your camera preamps can disguise how truly quiet this mic's self-noise actually is. It needed about 15db more gain than my shotgun mic, but between the audio recorder upgrade and this mic my noise floor is now -5db lower than running my shotgun straight into camera. What I hear through my headphones now is truly a natural mirror of real life sound and room tone, not merely an interpretation of it mixed with the hiss of camera preamps. Hard to describe until you A/B test for yourself, but it is the most natural sounding microphone I've ever used!

[Omnidirectional] They're Schoeps so there's little to say about that. I've used this stereo set in a variety of ways. From recording choirs to field recording train stations and dance rehearsals. They're crystal clear and capture sound exactly as you hear it. It's incredible how compact they are. The preamps are compatible with other Schoeps Colette capsules so there's a lot of modularity you can get with this set.

You're making a big investment with this stereo set and you get what you pay for.

[Omnidirectional] The sound is crystal clear, no coloring at all but of course you have to get it close to the source. I think this is the best mic you can buy for interiors and unlike a new camera, it will last me forever. Expensive, yes, but I think it will hold its value and is a good investment for my audio bag.

[Low Cut/HPF] Can never fault these microphones, but wish the case had cut outs for the included clips included like the standard stereo set does.

[End Address] I've only used it once so far for and indoor scene but I couldn't help but notice how it performed over my Sennheiser MKH 416. True, the MKH 416 is better equipped for outside but up until now that was all I had. I loved how if my actors were slightly off from their spot or turned their heads I suffered no roll-off problems at all. The over all tone of the voices was so clear and natural. I can't wait to use this mic on a larger scale.

[Gray] I use a pair of these for my MS setup(cmc1’s, mk8, mk22). When these were released in 2019 it was welcomed with open arms. I went from a 13” to 6.7” Rycote windshield. Amazing! Size and weight is a big deal for me as I hike to my locations and I carry the mentioned MS setup plus an ORTF(2 ccm4’s). They perform excellent as expected and they draw less battery power than the CMC6. I had no reason to not own a pair.

[Omnidirectional] The new CMC1 is great, super small, awesome for gigs. I have it for only 2 weeks, but the few times I used I was very happy!
