The matte gray Schoeps CMC 1 is a miniature Colette Series microphone amplifier offering uncompromising high fidelity in a lightweight and ultracompact form factor for studio recording, broadcast, and live stage applications. Presented as an alternative to the renowned Schoeps CMC 6 amplifier, the CMC 1 is compatible with all existing MK mic capsules and Colette active accessories (available separately). It features a balanced XLR 3-pin output, compliance with 12 or 48V phantom power, and low current consumption. Its Schoeps RFI Shield provides high immunity from RF interference for a clean, low-noise signal. The CMC 1 supports the high maximum SPLs tolerated by the various MK mic capsules (available separately). A stand adapter is supplied with the CMC 1.

  • Complete, no-compromise alternative to the renowned CMC 6 amplifier
  • Electrical characteristics of the CMC 1 are equal to, or even better than, those of the CMC 6 (flat frequency response, very-low distortion, and constant output impedance across the audio frequency range)
  • Only 1.4" long (about a third the size of the CMC 6)
  • Weighs just 1.3 ounces
  • Fully compatible with all existing MK capsules and Colette active accessories such as the CUT 60 and RC tubes
  • Compatible with all accessories of the CCM series
  • Very-high immunity from RF interference with the Schoeps RFI Shield
  • Optimized RF protection of the CMC 1 makes it ideal for use with transmitters such as the Audio Limited A 10
  • Balanced, direct-coupled, Class-A output circuit
  • Output is filtered in the ultrasonic range to prevent interference, e.g. from camera autofocus

The Schoeps MK 41 is part of the Colette series of modular capsules designed for use with the CMC mic amplifiers. The MK 41 effectively attenuates diffuse sound energy and produces a clear, "dry" sound pickup. Its polar pattern is exceptionally frequency independent; sounds from the side and back are strongly attenuated, but picked up without false coloration. This feature has made the MK 41 an international standard for indoor film sound.

The susceptibility of the MK 41 to acoustic feedback is lower than with any other Schoeps capsule type, provided that no loudspeaker radiates directly from the rear. The sensitivity minimum of the supercardioid occurs at approximately a 125° angle of incidence. The directional effect is independent of frequency, so that off-axis and diffuse sound are picked up free of false coloration, thus sounding natural. That is a real advantage over shotgun microphones, which have appreciably greater directivity only at higher frequencies, and frequency response (and thus sound quality) that depends on the direction of sound incidence.

Thus for many situations, the MK 41 offers an interesting alternative to a shotgun microphone, even if its small dimensions do not appear to suggest high directivity. As a capsule without an interference tube in front of it, the MK 41 can also be placed closer to the sound source.

This Schoeps stereo set comes with two CMC 1 microphone amps, two matched MK 41 capsules, a certificate of matching, two stand clamps, two foam windscreens, a hook-and-loop fastener cable strap, and a premium case.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work for the DPA 4018c? Seems like it would due to the size of comparable mics.

A: Yes, the Rycote 041110 InVision INV-6 SOFT Shockmount is compatible for use with the DPA Microphones 4018C Compact Supercardioid Microphone,

Q: 2. Does this system have a 70volt output?

A: The MM2000 is not designed for 70V operation.

Q: 3. Hey guys, is this product the right one to get if I plan on using with a SD 633 mixer which can supply 48V phantom? It's confusing to know whether I need this or the more expensive $1900 mic. How does it compare with Senn 8060 or MKH 50? Is this mic no good in humid conditions or with possible RF interference?

A: Thank you for your Question. If humidity and RF are a big concern i would highly recommend sticking with the 8060. The Schoeps is great but it does not have built in protections again humidity or RF interference.

Q: 4. Will this suspension fit with Sennheiser 8040, 30 and 40?

A: It might but it comes with all the Schoeps mic's. You cannot buy this without the mic's.

Q: 5. Is there a recommended field recorder for a high end mic like this? Is a Zoom F3 good enough?

A: The Zoom F3 would be an excellent choice for use with the Schoeps CMC641. It offers high-quality recording in 32-bit, which allows for great dynamic range with sensitive microphones.

Q: 6. What is a good schock mount/suspension holder to fit this microphone? I realize this mic is predominantly used indoors, but if I am in a situation where I need to use it outside, what product to reduce wind effect will fit this mic?

A: I have a Rycote Blimp with a lyre mount for bad windy conditions and the usual dead kittens for general breezes. But you said it yourself, this is an indoor mic. Moreover, it is a short mic so not so great at a distance of more than a few feet unless you have an amplified audio target. If you have critical audio needs outdoors, your better bet is to rent a good shotgun mic or buy something like the Sennheiser 416, Sanken Cs3, or Schoeps CMIT if you want to go all in. I have used the CMC6 outdoors (without needing a blimp). If you can get in close, it's OK but at say four or five feet, I don't know that the 'Schoeps' difference is any longer in effect. These weren't scientific shootouts and audio environments vary but I suspect plain old microphone physics trump German engineering at a certain distance.

Q: 7. dose it have a remote control?

A: The MM3000 does not have a remote available.

Q: 8. what is the speaker output OHMS required for each channel ?

A: This mixer/amp can handle speakers between 4 and 16 OHMS.

Q: 9. Does this amp work well with karaoke?

A: Yes - this amplifier could be used for Karaoke applications.

Q: 10. Hello! With this microphone amplifier, will I still need phantom power to connect a condenser microphone to a camera like the Sony A7SIII, or a recorder like the Atomos Ninja V? If so, what do you recommend?

A: This amplifier is designed to work with the Shoeps MK series capsules, and will still require phantom power to run.

[Gray] In short: low self-noise, improved isolation from room reverb, balanced frequency response, needs an audio recorder with quality preamps

I used to run a shotgun mic into my Canon C70 for all my interviews, indoor or outdoor, and now my workflow and quality has improved dramatically. I find this microphone well balanced across the frequency range, with soft s sibilance and no boominess in low or mid-range frequencies. It does a slightly better job at isolating from room reverb, which results in greater source sound clarity. You need to pair this mic with the clean preamps of an equally exceptional audio recorder to really appreciate the sound, as the self-noise levels of your camera preamps can disguise how truly quiet this mic's self-noise actually is. It needed about 15db more gain than my shotgun mic, but between the audio recorder upgrade and this mic my noise floor is now -5db lower than running my shotgun straight into camera. What I hear through my headphones now is truly a natural mirror of real life sound and room tone, not merely an interpretation of it mixed with the hiss of camera preamps. Hard to describe until you A/B test for yourself, but it is the most natural sounding microphone I've ever used!

[Low Cut/HPF] I got four of these with interest in buying 2 more for hookup to my recent purchase of the Sound Devices 788T. Woth every penny for the prestine none colored sound they produce.

[1.57 lb] I am using this for recording violin, acoustic guitar, mandolin, and piano, and all sound great. I already own the mk4 and love it, but wanted something a little more directional that can reject some of the room noise, since I am not recording in a totally isolated environment. The mk41 sounds just as good as the mk4 and definitely cuts down on any background noise. Only downside is that I have less leeway to move around when recording, whereas with the mk4, which has a wider capture, it's a little more forgiving. But I got the mk41 specifically for this purpose to just focus on what's directly in front of it, and it's doing the job even better than expected without any loss of quality or musicality in the tone. Love it! And plus one for B+H's amazing customer service. They were extremely helpful.

[Gray] They're Schoeps so there's little to say about that. I've used this stereo set in a variety of ways. From recording choirs to field recording train stations and dance rehearsals. They're crystal clear and capture sound exactly as you hear it. It's incredible how compact they are. The preamps are compatible with other Schoeps Colette capsules so there's a lot of modularity you can get with this set.

You're making a big investment with this stereo set and you get what you pay for.

[Supercardioid] The quality of this microphone is one of the best you can get in the industry. The price is a bit steep but the sound quality more than makes up for it.

[Gray] I've only used a handful of boom mics in my day, this is clearly the best one, pun intended. Playing back audio from this mic in my studio sounds as if the talent is right in my room. It's a bit heavy on the price if you're used to mics in the $300 range, but man is it worth it.

[Gray] Can never fault these microphones, but wish the case had cut outs for the included clips included like the standard stereo set does.
