The Leica M to Sony E Autofocus Adapter II - FotodioX PRONTOfrom Leica M to Sony E Autofocus Adapter II - FotodioX PRONTOallows traditional, manual-focus Leica M-mount lenses to function as autofocus lenses on select Sony E-Mount mirrorless cameras. By utilizing the camera's phase detection autofocus (PDAF) system, this adapter's helical focusing mechanism physically shifts the lens position up to 5mm on the Z axis, enabling autofocus even on manual-focus lenses. It supports both AF-S and AF-C focusing, in addition to face-detect autofocus and 5-axis image stabilization on enabled cameras. An integrated function button allows the user to enter various focus modes as well as setting the focal length and maximum aperture of the lens used on the adapter for optimum compatibility. Also, by utilizing separately available lens adapters with a Leica M-mount, various other lenses may achieve AF with this adapter.

When the lens is set to its close-focus position, the adapter's extension can be used to achieve macro capabilities, or set the lens to the infinity focus position to enable autofocus within its entire focusing range. Performance is optimal with 50mm lenses and wider, telephoto lenses may require coarse lens focusing before using the adapter for fine tuning via autofocus. This adapter is designed to support lenses weighing up to 1.3 lb.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the adapter work with the Z9?

A: Fotodiox does not yet state that it works with the z9 and we do not have the camera yet to test compatibility. But soon Fotodiox may update their site to include it. And or it may need a firmware upgrade.

Q: 2. How do you set the aperture of the lens (when using A priority) and meter with the converter?

A: The aperture is set on the lens. It is not controlled but the camera.

Q: 3. I would like to enable my Nikon AF-D lenses to auto focus on my Nikon Z body, which other adapter is recommended to adapt from F-mount lenses to Leica M body?

A: Currently, there are no adapters which will allow Nikon AF-D lenses to autofocus on a Nikon Z body.

Q: 4. Which cameras? The product description says "for select Fujifilm X-Mount cameras."

Q: 7. Hello. I can't find about compatibility with Fujifilm X Pro 2. Any info if it works with that camera? thanks

A: Unfortunately, Fotodiox does not list the XPRO 2 as a compatible model with this adapter.

Q: 8. The product description (LM-FXRF-PRN) state Leica M to X mount adapter but in Q&A the users are taking about Nikon Lenses. Is there a mismatch somewhere?

A: Sorry for the confusion! With several of our pages for items that come in a variations, the Q&A section is sometimes shared. There used to be a Nikon to Fuji adapter that shared this space that has since been removed. LM-FXRF-PRN is indeed for the Leica M to X-mount PRO Pronto adapter.

Q: 9. The adaptor discharge the batteries include when camera is turned off accord the manufacturer. Is this an issue? What about the AF for faces, does it work?

A: When the camera is off it does not send any power to the lens. The adapter does not pull any power when the camera is off. It does work with a single autofocusing modes, including face detection.

Q: 10. Have 28mm & 40mm Minolta Rokker manual lenses that I'd like to use with this but is there a 'crop' factor involved?

A: This adapter is for Leica M series lenses to a Nikon Z mount body. A more suitable adapter for Minolta Rokkor Lenses with an MD mount would be the Metabones Minolta MD Lens to Nikon Z-mount Camera T Adapter (Black), BH # MEMDNZBT1. A crop factor of 1.5X would only apply on Nikon Z mount cameras with an APS-C sensor such as the Z30 or Z50. https://bhpho.to/3SCbjhw

[Yes] I couldn't believe it when I saw it, but yes, this does indeed turn your manual focus lenses into autofocus-compatible lenses on the Sony body. Don't expect perfection, but it does work extremely well. The focus motors are relatively loud, but not shockingly so. I'm now much more confident in situations where I want to use my Leica glass on my Sony bodies and have added autofocus capabilities.

[0.94 lb] When I saw this adapter on DPReview TV, I was skeptical that I could finally have Eye AF on my Alpha 1 with my vintage Helios 44M, but after buying this adapter and combining it with a Leica M-M42 adapter, that's exactly what I got! The way you configure it (by setting the aperture) is pretty obtuse, but it does work. Also nice that it includes the docking station to update the firmware through the computer.

If they ever come out with a future version that handles heavier-than-500g lenses, I'd happily upgrade, but for now: I'm very impressed.

[0.94 lb] Mine wasn't working great at first. I reached the people at Fotodiox and they kindly recommended for me to update to the latest firmware which is easy as can be. After that it works amazingly good and just like a charm. Very very fast focusing -of course not as fast as native Fujinon lenses- but amazingly fast on my X-T4 with a Leica Summaron 35mm 3.5. It has new features that give these kind of legacy lenses new life and possibilities. I can now focus extremely close with my Summaron and it works fast enough for street action and snapshooting all around. I am really amazed by this adapter.

[0.94 lb] I have original Techart Gen 1 that worked fine with A73 and A7C.
That stopped as I upgraded to A7R4 and A1, it was near useless, only sometimes nailing focus after lots of searching.

Techart isn't updating that version or offering new one.

This Gen 2 pronto works perfectly with A1, and quite fast, though it seems to be a bit quicker and more sure footed with longer (physical forward, not rotational) throw lenses like Voigtlander Ultron 35 1.7 and 50 1.2, as compared to Leica Summarit 35 2.5, which exhibits miniscule movement back and forth in order to focus. Anyhow, it does work with all my Leica lenses, including Leica 50 2.5. 90 2.5, Minolta Rokkor 4.0 and old Leica Thumbar(?) 90mm 4.0 (from 50s?). I don't have A7r4 anymore, but failures of first gen adapter were the same on both A1 and A7r4, so I assume it would work everywhere. It's quite a speed beast on Ultron 1.7 and A1! Compared to Gen 1 and A7c/A73

Now I wonder if Techart was ever real inventor, and Fotodiox one to copy design, as was popular lore?! Or firmware developer moved the company, or some sort of for pay development between these two companies etc...

[0.94 lb] This was the cheapest adapter on the list, but everything on B&H is high quality.

[0.94 lb] I used this adapter on my Z7ii. I had experience using the Techart Leica M AF adapters on Sony (both the original and redesign), as well as trying the Pronto version for Fuji X.

This Pronto for Nikon Z performs the best out of any Leica M AF adapter I've ever used. The programmable Fn button on the side is great, just like you see on the more expensive Z lenses.

All focus modes are supported, Eye AF works great for people and pets.

So glad I took a shot on this adapter, it's given my Z7ii a whole new dimension and shrank my travel kit considerably now that I can bring my M10R / Z7ii and just M lenses.

[Yes] I got the FotodioX mount adapter for my Sony E camera to use with Leica-R lenses. I have a Metabones adapter, but I have nothing but problems removing it, not to mention how expensive Metabones are. This was not a lot of money, but it attaches securely and removes easily from my lenses. Manual lenses focus well, whether close or far away, and there are no electrical contacts, so metering is off the sensor using Manual mode. I would highly recommend this adapter.

[Sony E] I saw a lot of videos reviewing this unit before buying it, so I managed my expectations on how it’ll work. Glad to report that it actually work really well with a VM Nokton 35mm f1.2, it focuses well in the center, and even does eye tracking in AF-C on my A7CR. I mainly do travel and portrait so this is a really great adapter. I’m curious on whether it’ll focus as well with a Nokton 50mm f1.
