[0.04 lb] I've used two other cages on a C70 on two ends of the budget spectrum - a Bright Tangerine half cage setup ($1,000+) and a Tilta full cage setup ($100), both great for different reasons. I decided I needed a minimalist setup that kept the weight down to a bare minimum. I was nervous about leaving a $5,000 investment unprotected, but eventually dove in and bought this skeletal cage. I love it.


There's not much to say about the baseplate, because there's not much to it either. It offers mounting points on three sides and has an HDMI bracket to protect your HDMI from being twisted or bent. It isn't a locking HDMI protector, keep that in mind. In my opinion, this is a more elegant solution. Fewer moving parts, and it does it's job. It's not there to prevent an HDMI from getting pulled out, it's there to prevent bending or twisting damage to your HDMI cable and the C70's HDMI port.


The side plate was a question mark for me, and still is to a degree. I removed my C70's hand strap a while back since the only thing it was good at was being a sweat collector. I installed the side plate and... I kinda like it? I don't see myself attaching much to it, but it's attractive, it'll be functional if the need ever arises, and it's surprisingly comfortable.


The top plate is fantastic. Since it attaches to both the top shoe and the sensor plane marker mounting points, and feels nice and secure. It offers the combination of mounting points I need for my setup. I opted for the cage-only bundle since I already own the awesome Kondor Blue Talon handle that I love.

[0.04 lb] I had anxiety using the smallrig top plate to connect a top handle, monitor and microphone. All of that weight was pulling on a single screw on top of the C70 cold shoe. I felt it was only a matter of time till it broke. I forked over the extra cash for the Shape cage and I'm glad I did. Now the cage connects via the top screw, bottom two screws and is connected via a side plate. I feel much more secure adding accessories and the hdmi clamp was a big feature for why I chose this cage. The clamp is small, so I cannot use my thick right angle hdmi, I have to use a normal cable. However, it is extremely secure now. Overall, this cage makes me feel more confident using my gear.

[0.04 lb] It's essential to have backup for everything in your kit! I use Canon batteries for a day of shooting but I carry this cable in case I need to run power off my V-Mount batteries. Wooden Camera is a trusted brand I can rely on for any accessory needs.

[0.04 lb] Fits the C70 cold shoe perfectly, was hoping the 2 pins would line up with my Osee G7 monitor but they don't however the included pad works well and the monitor will only twist with some force.

[0.04 lb] This hinge is perfectly low profile and compact. The registration pins are perfect for your monitor and also a Teradek 4K! I might buy a second one for my Teradek to minimize the weight of a magic arm.

[0.04 lb] This plate works great if you know how to rig it. The locking screw on this plate requires a proprietary grooved receiver to sit properly. You will either need to have Wooden camera's C70 top plate or purchase the Bright Tangerine Canon LA-V1 Monitor Bracket Adapter and adapt a 3/8 anti twist mounting hole. I mount mine on the rear of the Bright Tangerine C70 top handle and it's worked great! Solid piece of gear.

[0.6 oz / 16 g] I've tried both the Tilta c70 cage and the Kondor Blue base plate. Both the Kondor Blue base plate and the Shape Camera Cage are excellent choices. The Tilta cage seemed a bit flimsy and there is some movement with it even with the side plate attached to the camera creating an issue with hand-holding the grip and using it with the Ronin RS2 gimbal. The Shape cage does not cover the grip which makes it easy to use with the Ronin RS2. The cage feels very solid mounted onto the camera and you can tell a lot of thought went into the design of the cage and the positions of the mounting locations.
