Yes, there is internal electronics to step down the voltage, and it is located inside the dummy battery. (My meter reads 16.3 volts on the input and 8.5 volts on the output, which is fine.) The cable is straight, about 36 inches long. It works fine on my GH4. The camera has a little rubber slot made to allow the cable to pass through. 5

[0.575 lb] Got it for my GH5 and works very well, used the extra D-Tap for my monitor which has no issues too. Depending on how heavy the battery is, you need to screw it to the rods very tightly (if you want the battery in an upright position) so I'm not sure how durable it is. 5
