Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I want to use my old Minolta SR mount lenses (28-135 Astron Zoom and Tamron 300mm Tele) on my new Nikon D7200. I know the Fotodiox adapter will do the trick but confused about the multiplication factors. I note that in one foram answer the it says that an 85mm lens becomes (equiv.) to 119mm due to 1.4x 85 but has to be multiplied again, ie 119 x 1.5 = 178.5mm when DX format is taken into account. Another answer says for a D7000 (which is DX) you only multiply the focal length by the 1.4x (on a 600mm in this case, becoming 840mm).I thought the 1.4x factor was for the difference between FX and DX. Would my 300mm become equivalent to 420mm, 450mm or 420 x 1.5 = 620? I was under the impression that on a full frame FX, the lens stays as same focal length and only multiplied when using on DX format as are the D7000 series.

A: Dont let all of this multiplication factor information confuse you. The 1.4 factor mentioned in the documentation is referring to the fact that it includes a lens in the adaptor to correct for the difference of the lens from the original Nikon Camera mount flange. That pertains to focus only and not crop factor. It is included to eliminate any focus issue so you dont have to worry about that. What you need to know is your Minalta mount lenses will only work in manual focus when used on your Nikon D7200 with this adaptor. You should still get focus confirmation in your viewfinder with this combination though. You will also want to configure the lenses individually in the Non-CPU setup menu for accurate metering. The 1.5 crop factor you have heard or read about is a separate concern than the mentioned 1.4 focus correction lens included in this adaptor as I discussed above. An FX (full frame) lens will have a 1.5 crop factor on a DX (APS-C cropped) sensor camera such as your Nikon D7200. I hope this helps.

Q: 2. Can the corrective glass element be easily removed for macro photography (and later replaced)?

A: The Vello Minolta MD Lens to Nikon F-Mount Camera Lens Adapter is not designed to allow removing the glass optic.

Q: 3. Will this work on Nikon D810 adapts to Minolta MC OR MD LENS?

A: This adapter will allow mounting a Minolta MD lens onto any Nikon F mount camera including the D810.

Q: 4. Will this also work with a Minolta Rokkor PF lens?

A: Technically the FotodioX Mount Adapter for Minolta SR/MD/MC-Mount Lens to Fujifilm X-Mount Camera should work with most Minolta Rokkor PF lenses, That lens series is MD. But the manufacture of the adapter does not list what specific lenses work with it.

Q: 5. will this work on a nikon d5100 please?

A: It works on my Nikon D300 which should be the same mount on your camera. However you will have to focus manually and adjust aperture on your lens as this this adapter does not have any electrical contacts to operate the lens. You also will not get all the exposure metadata you would get with an electronically connected lens.

Q: 6. Does the adapter multiply the effective focal length of Minolta lenses by a factor of 1.5?

A: I have a 135mm prime MD mounted on a X-T1, compared to the Fujifilm XF18-135 at 135mm there is a crop or effective zoom, say maybe *looking* like a 150mm equivalent using the 135 prime MD mount. If one is out and about shooting this isn't a big difference at all. I shoot using a multitude of bodies with differing sensor sizes, crop factor only really figures in my shooting when I am either shooting very far away, with a long 400mm or longer lens, I want all the effective zoom I can get or very close (macro) again, I want the image as big as possible on the sensor. For landscape and people, portraits it's not really a factor. The X-T1 works well for me for that stuff. To answer your question though, using the MD adapter converts a *full frame* (35mm format) lens to a sensor that is less than full frame size so it will result in the image being focused on an area larger than the sensor, but that works out to something less than 1.5,more like 1.14 using the FotodioX MD adapter. Hope this helps.

Q: 7. Will this connect my minolta lens to a nikon f3?

A: The Vello Minolta MD Lens to Nikon F-Mount Camera Lens Adapter will allow you to use Minolta MD manual focus lenses on the Nikon F3 SLR Film Camera.

Q: 8. Does this also work on Minolta MC?

A: Yes this FotodioX Minolta MD Lens Adapter also works with Minolta MC.

Q: 9. Does anyone know if this will work with a Rokkor 58mm 1.2 ?

A: As long as the Rokkor lens is an MD mount, the Metabones Speed Booster Ultra 0.71x Adapter for Minolta MD-Mount Lenses to FUJIFILM X-Mount Camera will be compatible.

Q: 10. Will this adapter allow me to use a manual focus and exposure 42.7mm screw mount lens on my old Minolta 35mm SRT-201 camera?

A: The Bower T-Mount Lens to Minolta MD Mount Camera Adapter is only compatible with lenses have a T-mount fitting; a screw-mount lens will not be compatible.

[Aluminum] It's like a natural extension of my XT3. My Minolta lenses twist in and fit like a glove. Very tight and sturdy. The metal construction feels solid and professional.

[FUJIFILM X] I tried the K&F from a famous online retailer. So stiff and tight I thought I'd pull the lens apart at the focusing or aperture rings. Returned it. Tried the Velo - same deal. Returned it. Kipon - buttery smooth on and off at both the body and lens ends. Way more cash but worth it for peace of mind - no risk of damage to my beloved glass. This is the one, a perfect 10.

[FUJIFILM X] Works as it should. Fit snugly on my GFX 50R and so does the Minolta lens I’ve adapted to it.

[0.345 lb] So far so good. I do notice that this adapter is rather tight on the mount but everything functions as it should and now my GFX has plenty more options for use. Thankful for this product.

[Aluminum] No wobble or wiggle with MD 58mm 1.2 on GFX. Side note, there's info on the web that states the above mentioned lens acceptably covers GFX sensors. I disagree, a crop is needed. The MD 100mm 2.5 works though.

[0.345 lb] I'm not having any issues with a poor fit, it works perfectly.
58mm PG 1.2 almost covers 44x33, a slight crop is needed.
100mm 2.5 covers fully.

[0.345 lb] I skipped the lower $ units available from different manufacturers hoping this one would be a keeper 1st round. It definitely is & worth the $. I appreciate the fit & finish & the built in tripod collar on Pro version is a big bonus for me as I use it as part of hand hold with Fuji XT2. Real nice for 135 & up. I do same thing with a EF 400 5.6 L as it also has a tripod collar , albeit on a Canon 7D. I change lens a lot as I have 10 MC/MD lenses & use them all. It's a enjoyable experience as it's super precise & smooth on mount & dismount. I'll stay with this brand if I go on a lens binge from different manufacturers then Minolta.
Minolta rocks though & would take a very expensive lens I think to beat what I have.
Joe

[FUJIFILM X] My adapter fits very snug on the 100s and has a good fit on the MD lenses I have tried. I don't have any concerns with this one.
