The Sonnet SxS PRO X Thunderbolt 3 Card Readerfrom Sonnet SxS PRO X Thunderbolt 3 Card Readeris a compact, professional SxS card reader for computers with Thunderbolt 3 ports. It is compatible with SxS PRO X cards, which offer nearly a 3x increase in maximum read speeds over the previous generation. Aside from SxS PRO X, this card reader may be used natively with SxS PRO+ E, SxS PRO+ D, SxS PRO+, SxS PRO, SxS-1, and SxS cards. Additionally, XQD and SD cards may be used via separately-sold adapters.

Sonnet built this card reader to drive data transfers at speeds up to 1250 MB/s for SxS PRO X cards, or 440 MB/s for SxS PRO+ media. Pocket-sized, rugged with an aluminum enclosure, and bus powered, this device is compatible with Windows and Mac. It may be connected to your Windows system using a Thunderbolt 3, Thunderbolt 4, or USB4 port, while Mac connectivity is limited to Thunderbolt 3. Included is a 1.6' Thunderbolt 3 cable and a ThunderLok3 retainer clip, which helps to prevent accidental cable disconnections.

Please note that this card reader is currently not compatible with M1 Macs, but a Sony M1-compatible driver for SxS cards is expected. Also, Sony AXS media is not supported.

Sonnet's SxS PRO X Thunderbolt 3 Single-Slot Card Reader is bus-powered, operating off its Thunderbolt connection, so there's no need to plug in a power supply or power cable.

The SxS PRO X Card Reader supports all generations of SxS media, including SxS PRO X, SxS PRO+ E, SxS PRO+ D, SxS PRO+, SxS PRO, SxS-1, and SxS cards. Additionally, this reader supports XQD cards with the Sony ExpressCard Adapter for XQD Memory Card (QDA-EX1) or SD cards with Sonnet's SDHC Adapter for SxS Slot (SD-SXS-E34) or Sony's MEAD-SD02.

Equipment size and design features matter. Sonnet's SxS PRO X Thunderbolt 3 Single-Slot Card Reader measures just 2.8" x 4.1" x 0.8", which is about the size of a deck of playing cards, making it suitable for use in any workspace and workflow. Featuring a rugged aluminum enclosure, the Sonnet reader packs easily into a computer bag or backpack. Its single-port Thunderbolt interface and bus-powered operation make it good for use at the end of a daisy chain, such as multiple Sonnet SF3 Series dual-slot pro card readers.

Sonnet includes a 1.6' 40 Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 cable that supports Thunderbolt 3's full bandwidth. Sonnet also provides a ThunderLok 3 Thunderbolt connector retainer clip that helps prevent accidental cable disconnections - just slide it over one end of the cable, and then plug in the connector and secure it to the reader by turning a thumbscrew. Because of its unique design, ThunderLok remains on the cable so it won't get lost when not in use.

[0.595 lb] I love this thing, hats off to Sonnet. I used to have to come in to work a couple of hours early to download my media after every shoot. P2 Cards are very reliable. However downloading your media is painfully slow. Until Now. The Thunderbolt P2 Reader is lightening fast. It works with both the Standard P2 Cards and P2 Adapter SDXC Cards. If you can use a lightening connecter this will speed up your work flow. I stopped using my P2 cards after the adapter came out because of the time it saved me. Now I can use my P2 Cards again. I can unload my 64 GB Cards in about 15 mins. Using a USB2 it took nearly 40. It would be nice if they also had a USB 3 port but that's a small complaint. If it did, every other editor in my office would steal it! 5

[1x SxS] mac OS 10.15 - Sony has not yet updated the driver credentials to be easily installed in Catalina (10.15). To install the driver in Catalina, you must disable SIP to use Sony's XQD driver as follows: DISABLE SIP 1. From the Apple menu, select Restart. 2. Boot into the macOS Recovery partition on an internal drive. Hold down command-R on your keyboard immediately after pressing the power button to turn on your Mac, or immediately after your Mac begins to restart. Continue holding until you see the Apple logo or a spinning globe. Startup is complete when you see the macOS utilities window on an internal drive. [Note: Booting into a Recovery System on an external drive will not be successful in disabling SIP.] 3. From the Utilities menu, select Terminal. 4. Type csrutil disable and press return. 5. Close the Terminal app. 6. From the Apple menu, select Restart. 5

[1x SxS] As someone who has used the P2 Card reader in the past. I must say that theSonnet Thunderbolt Pro P2 Card Reader trounces it by far. This was the best investment for importing or ingesting media from Panasonic cameras. 5

[Aluminum] Purchased the Sony Reader worked fine with the USB connection to a powered hub, not sure if it would work straight into the computer. The sonnet worked using the Apple adapter Male USB-c to Thunderbolt 2 Female attached to an Apple Thunderbolt 2 cable Males on each end one plugged int the Apple Adapter and the other end plugged into the Mac with has Thunderbolt 2 input. 5

[Aluminum] In considering all of the other options for P2 media readers this one is the best and fastest. The Panasonic one is only USB 3.0 and is over $450. The build quality is great and it is bus powered so no extra cables needed. I only wish it came in USB-C for the new MacBook Pro but works great with the adapter from Apple. B&H had the best price I could find and with free shipping and no tax its a win. 5
