With sharp images and the power to resolve minute details, the straight-through viewing Alpen Optics Kodiak 20-60x60 Spotting Scope Straightis a powerful and versatile optic ideal for birding, hunting, shooting, and general nature viewing in your backyard or all the way out in the backcountry.

A large 60mm objective lens gives the scope the light-gathering power to produce vivid images in even low light and to ensure views remain bright even when studying subjects on maximum magnification at long range. The anti-reflection fully multicoated optics minimize reflections and maximize light transmission to help produce bright and clear high-contrast views with accurate colors and crisp clarity.

There is no need to stay home when the weather takes a nasty turn—the Kodiak is engineered to withstand the elements, with a nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed body that is waterproof and resistant to internal fogging in extreme weather conditions and temperatures. To get you observing right out of the box, Alpen includes a collapsible tabletop tripod that is outfitted with a simple pan head and control handle. For extra protection while you're heading to your observation point, a tethered objective lens cap and carrying case are included.

[3.745 lb] I bought this scope to use at my outdoor rifle range for 100 yrds plus! I could see the targets with my rifle scope and binoculars but I could not see the impact holes! This scope does the job with ease at 100yrds and when i get back, Im going to try it at 200 and Im sure it will be just as good! Worth the money!

[20 to 60x] I am very pleased with this scope. While using this product for birding, the targeted birds are seen clearly and more vivid. It's really nice.

[60 mm] I use the scope primarily for birdwatching, but also use it occasionally for checking targets at a shooting range, avoiding the need to walk all the way to your targets to check shot placement. The scope is quite light and comes with a padded protective jacket and carry strap. The carry strap cuts into your shoulder and leaves room for improvement but I have not seen any optics supplied with a comfortable carry strap except for Leica, and even theirs leaves room for improvement. I haven't used the scope in adverse weather conditions so I can't really comment on how well it stands up to those conditions. Also, this seems like a very good value for the price but I haven't tried the Nikon scopes costing in excess of $2000. The law of diminishing returns in the price of optics probably applies and I expect that the high priced scopes would only be marginally better than this scope. As a personal preference, I prefer the straight through viewing scopes because they make objects much easier to find simply by keeping both eyes open at the same time. This doesn't work for finding objects through an angled scope. The advantage of an angled scope would be for viewing birds at tree top level. The viewing would be easier on your neck, if you can find the birds.

[18.0 to 15.0 mm] Good enough for a start on bird watching. Equipment is intact and easy to use. No rocket science.

[Straight] It's very good for my needs. I'm using it to spot the hits on paper target for airguns (10m/25m) and it's amazing for it! For it to be perfect, only if the tripod was a little higher.
