Designed to maximize the uptime and accessibility of RAID storage, the HighPoint RocketRAID 3740C PCIe Host Adapterfrom HighPoint RocketRAID 3740C PCIe Host Adapterfits into a PCIe 3.0 x8 slot on your host Windows, Mac, Linux, or FreeBSD system using an included low-profile bracket. It is equipped with four internal SFF-8643 mini-SAS ports that support up to sixteen SAS-3 12 Gb/s or SATA III 6 Gb/s channels, which may be used for Enterprise and NAS drives. The RocketRAID 3740C also supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, and 50, each of which provides performance, data redundancy, or a combination of both. For those who do not require a RAID, JBOD is available. To better monitor the health of your RAID configuration, HighPoint's RocketRAID WebGUI interface provides a wide range of preemptive monitoring and maintenance features.

It is also possible to expand or convert RAID storage configurations as needed with Online Capacity Expansion (OCE), which allows admins to add new drives to existing arrays. Online RAID Level Migration (ORLM) allows admins to convert one RAID level to another in order to tune storage configurations for improved performance or data security.

Please note that bootable RAID 6 arrays are not supported and RAID 6 is not supported on Mac. This controller may be used with the RS6418S and RS6414S JBOD tower enclosures via 8644-8088-1M1 SFF8644 to SFF-8088 cables.

Q: 6. Does this support x16 cards? Asking as in the key features it states "Supports PCIe x16, x8, and x4 Cards" but then it also states "1 x PCIe 3.0 x4" Slot so I am unsure and the pictures also only show a x4 slot.

A: There are some card with a PCIe x4 slot that operate at x16 speeds. This model has such a compatibility, it has an x4 slot but can support up to x16 speeds.

Q: 7. Will this have any compatibility issues with Alienware Area 51m R2 Laptop? I'm giing to put elgatos 4k mk card in it.

Q: 8. Could you run 8x drives in JBOD and still obtain read/write speeds usable for 4k editing?

Q: 9. Can it run without an adapter, only on power provided by thunderbolt?

A: This HighPoint RocketStor 6661A Thunderbolt 3 PCI-e expansion chassis requires power from a wall outlet, using the included power adapter. It cannot operate on bus power provided through the Thunderbolt cable.

Q: 10. Does this come with the optical connector, or do I need to purchase a module separately?

A: This model does not come with any wires, only mounting brackets.

[0.635 lb] This card has it's own bios that boots when you boot the computer. I have 2 sets of HDD's configured as RAID 1 (mirrored). Great for secure storage. If the computer fails, it should not affect the data. If you blow a HDD, you can replace it and the array will rebuild itself. You can take the entire assembly and move it to another computer without data loss. It integrates itself for drive configuration as if it were plugged into the SATA bus. One caution....Make sure you purchase RocketRAID and not just a RAID card. The RAID card doesn't have the spin down function. 5

[0.635 lb] I use this to connect to a HighPoint RocketStor 5322 Dual-Dedicated 6 Gbps eSATA Storage Dock. The purpose I use this setup for is Removable Backup Drives that are stored in the Safe to protect the data from Theft and Fire. I want to make an important note about Windows 8 and the use of this product. - Windows 8 and later shuts your computer down in a Hybrid Hibernation state, so that your computer starts up faster (if your OS is on an SSD it makes no difference in speed). If you leave this option turned on, it will not allow this controller to use the Drives connected to it as hot swappable and you will have many issues. If you turn this option off in Windows 8, everything works perfectly. - To get to this option in Windows 8 to turn it off, go to the Start button then click the magnifying glass for search and type po bu (stands for power button). Under Shutdown settings un-check Turn on fast startup (recommended). Click Save Changes at the bottom and then Re-start your computer. That is it, it will work perfectly now. I did not come up with that fix on my own I contacted HighPoint when I was having the issue and they first saw if they could recreate the issues I was having in their Lab and they were able to and told me they would contact me again when they have the issue resolved. A week later they contacted me and told me this fix for my OS. The issue had nothing to do with their hardware or software but an OS setting and they figured it out for me. I find that a rare thing these days and will Trust this company for future purchases if I need them. 5

[Low Profile] Really happy with my purchase, rocksolid performance and affordable price. I did have some difficulty putting in a Blackmagic Mini Monitor 4k card though, as the card is designed to sit in a tower so I needed to modify the card slightly to fit. Now that it's in I'm getting amazing HDR 4K playback and couldn't be happier. 5

[Low Profile] This is the best PCIe 16x housing you can find. I use it for Highpoint's SSD71xx RAID cards and am getting very fast read/write speeds. As I can control the fans with their software, the unit is extremely quiet. 5
