PortCaster has two Neutrik input jacks, which accommodate professional microphones, and one TRRS input jack for connecting a phone. Now you can easily add remote guests to your podcast. Simply dial them up and PortCaster will do the rest. PortCaster is also a versatile mixer. It has an Auxiliary stereo input that allows you to effortlessly add background music or sound effects to your podcast. PortCaster can connect to a camera via its stereo line output and 46 dB pad.

The top panel gives you easy access to all of the adjustments, using familiar analog pots. No searching through menu pages to find the right adjustment: quick and easy controls are always at your fingertips.

Sound quality starts with the Mic preamps. The built-in Jasmine mic preamps feature a custom and discrete transistor design with 65 dB of clean, low-noise gain. This makes it easy to connect any condenser or dynamic microphone, including the notoriously gain-hungry SM7B and RE20.

Mix-minus is a feature used by radio stations to add call-in guests to the program. Mix-minus prevents annoying audio feedback from traveling back to the caller through the phone line. With PortCaster you can have call-in guests, too. Mix-minus is included. Just connect your phone, and dial up your guest.

Some streaming services don't offer stereo sound. PortCaster's convenient mono blend knob can combine the input channels, so that Instagram, Facebook Live, Webex, Zoom, and other services can hear both participants at once. Even stereo music or sound effects on Aux 3/4 can be mixed down to mono, if needed.

To help better control recording levels, PortCaster features independent, soft-knee optical limiters for both the Host and Guest, allowing for a truly professional sound. The opto analog limiters can subtly catch the audio peaks early, preventing nasty digital clipping.

PortCaster likes to be outside. Its battery system offers reliable service in the field. The case is made from lightweight aluminum, and the tactile controls make adjustments quick and easy. The built-in SD recorder, combined with the company's optional, separately-available XY stereo mics, turns PortCaster into a professional, high-quality mobile recorder.

[0 dB 65 dB ] The mixer is very easy and quick to set up, feels solid and well made, and can work for a many different types of projects. I set mine up for a podcast in under ten minutes with limited knowledge on audio mixers, so it is very intuitive and the multi-track recording made it very easy to edit and publish.

[-95 dB (1 kHz) ] Even though it needs some improvements, I will still give this best of them all in term of build quality and well layout and management of space, with the DAW included, this is a good podcasting console.

[2x Knob] I'm a journalist who records voice overs and many interviews, both over phones and via Zoom, in a home studio. I've used the Rodecaster Pro, Rodecaster Pro II, Focusrite Vocaster 2 and now the Tascam Mixcast 4. For my work, I prefer the Tascam device over the others. The Rodecaster Pro II would work fine one minute and need a re-set the next. It was too complex and not reliable enough for my work.

The Tascam does it all for me and is rock solid reliable. It it built well and the latest software is very stable and intuitive. I like having separate Bluetooth and hard-wired mobile phone interface. All the features are naturally laid out and easier to use than the other devices.

Though the included DAW is nice, I tend to use stereo files sent to the desktop of my iMac. At the $299 B&H price, this device is very cost effective and an excellent performer.

[2] I needed multitrack recording to Ableton and a way to incorporate a looper into my setup without getting a feedback sound loop. I can do this with the Model 12 by sending tracks out via the SUB out then back in through a separate track pointed at the main out. This can do both so I'm very happy!

Looks great and very well build. I recommend it if you want to upgrade your home studio setup.

[2] Plead guilty to having more money than common sense in this regard and therefore, at the moment, I have both devices (line out from Rode to Mixcast downstream) and they are both very well built, big bang for the bucks and very comparable. Comes down to personal preference. I have long experience with Tascam products, not so with Rode. Mixcast sliders VERY smooth and absolutely silent. Rode a tiny bit rough and tiny noise. Mix stores more sound pad recordings because it utilizes the SD card. Rode uses limited internal memory. With a little larger display, Mix shows sound pad labels WITH the VU meter (a biggie for me). Rode on separate screen page. Rode has quicker access to Mic modifications with dedicated buttons above sliders. Mix has fun voice changer that can be assigned to a sound pad button (for one mic). Rode uses micro SD cards (and I personally hate those tiny things) whereas Mix uses full size. To these old ears, sound quality comparable which I happen to think is largely a matter of Mic anyway (and BTW I highly recommend the Shure FM7Bs). So, MY personal preference is the Mixcast but only by a nose. Me thinks, one can't go wrong.

[2x Knob] First of all, great service by B&H as this unit arrived in one day, and they had great pre-sale support when I had questions about recording times and other features. I am using this mixer/recorder with my live band, and I love this thing! It is super easy to work, and it sounds great (very warm sounding and “punchy”). The main reason that I got this unit was for the built-in MULTI-TRACK recorder. Lots of mixers have a two track recorder, but this is the only one that I know of that allows you to record each individual channel. You can quickly re-mix and re-balance the recording to create a great sounding live mix. I have to say that it is the first time in my 15-year career as a live performer that I have actually gotten a “board tape” that sounds good! Keep in mind that you can do this WITHOUT a computer!! If you want to use a computer (or if you want to take tracks off of Pro Tools or something) and then re-mix them through the board, you can do that, but I have been able to make great sounding live recordings without dragging my laptop to the gig (a very good thing in my opinion). I also really like the on-board one knob compressor (although it can sound a bit “squashed” if you push it too hard). The built-in effects sound great (would like more choices, but what they do have is very useable). All in all, I’m very happy with the sound quality and especially the ease of use.

[2] I've used other brands of podcast mixers before and TASCAM's Mixcast 4 is by far the easiest.

Whether you're an amateur or a pro, the Mixcast 4 is extremely user-friendly. You can plug and play using the default settings (which are actually pretty decent straight out of the gate) or you can add compression, noise gating, or a couple other useful tools.

The pads are really easy to load or sync from your computer too; there are even more banks than I ever had with the competitor's unit.

TASCAM really outdid themselves on this one. Cheers!

[USB-C Port ] This is one of the best podcasting mixer products. B&H provided a great bundle for a low price.

[2x Knob] Tried and true. The Mixcast 4 is a beast,...user friendly, and an absolute contender for it's competitor. The bundle package is the best option (imo) to go with, particularly if you want to have the full set up day one.
