This 100 x 150mm Urth Soft-Edge Graduated ND Filter 100x150mm 4-Stopfrom Urth Soft-Edge Graduated ND Filter 100x150mm 4-Stopis a rectangular filter that darkens specific areas of an image, such as bright skies, while allowing for a normal, unaffected exposure in the remainder of the image area. The filter is densest at the edge and tapers to clear by the middle, with a soft-edged line of transition between the dense and clear areas. This soft-edge design is appropriate for use with images that feature a prominent horizon, or any soft transition between sky and land, like wooded landscapes and cityscapes. This filter provides a 4-stop reduction in light from entering the lens and does not affect the coloration of the image.

Constructed from Schott optical glass for clarity and color fidelity, this filter features 20-layers of nano multi-coating to reduce potential glare and lens flare. This filter is 2mm thick and fits the Urth 100mm Filter System, plus other 100mm-wide filter holder systems.

Q: 1. I currently have a sony A7r with a Sony FE 24-240mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS Lens. Is this filter compatible with the lens I am using? Are there any kits or adapters I need as well? Thanks!

A: Hi Christian, Yes, it will work, you'll just need a 72mm adapter for whatever filter holder you're using. My recommendation is a Lee Filter holder and a 72mm lens filter adapter. If you have a lens that takes a larger filter size, say a 77mm, then I'd get a 77mm adapter and a 77mm to 72mm step down ring. That way you don't have too many adapters. Hope this helps.mick

Q: 2. Will this work with Panasonic Lumix G Vario 7-14mm f/4 ASPH. Lens?

A: Yes, the Panasonic Lumix G Vario 7-14mm f/4 ASPH. Lens should be compatible for use with the Tadashi Solid Neutral Density 0.9 Filter for Select SLR Fisheye Lenses (3 Stop).

Q: 3. Does this filter cause that dreaded hourglass darkening when set at 1.5? I have one that if I get past 1/2 the settings, it gets a distorted discoloration. Thanks

A: I have taken a series of exposures at each stop...bright light, but needed long exposure. I didn't see any hourglass effect.

Q: 4. Can other filters screw on to the Nano filter to stack filters?

A: Unfortunately this filter is too thin to stack any more filters on top of it.

Q: 5. Can this filter be used on wide angle lenses for example Sigma 10-20mm? I have tried cheaper alternatives with extremely poor results. Uneven darkening and camera (Pentax K-7) metering failing resulting in gross underexposure.

A: I've tried only 2 variable ND filters: this B+W one and a similar one by Genustech. Non-variable ND filters have fewer problems. From what I've read, most of the variable ND's, like the Genustech, have the shortcomings you describe. This B+W does not. It is consistent in how it transmits light across the whole filter without the usual cross artifact that darkens the image unevenly. I use this filter mainly for video with large sensor cameras; my only qualm with the filter is that it doesn't get dark enough for very bright scenes and that's partly due to my lowest ISO rating being 400. So I have to stop down the lens anyway, just not as much, but more than I'd like to. I can't vouch for no vignetting on a 10mm super wide lens. I get no vignetting at 17mm focal length on my 17-55mm Nikon zoom. B+W's engineering and build quality is usually superior to the rest.

Q: 6. When stopped to the highest setting (5 stops) does the image degrade (sharpness, cross hatching)?

A: I've shot extensively with the 95mm, 72mm, & 67mm versions. You don't get any cross-hatching, but a definite vignette in the corners toward the 5 stop range when shooting photos. Video is not an issue as it crops to 16:9. Other than than, negligible colour cast & no sharpness issues.

Q: 7. Will this fit Zeiss Batis 67mm lens with the hood ON?

A: I would say most likely no as I cannot use a hood with any of my lenses when using this filter.

Q: 8. Does anyone know if my Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 VR lens hood works with this filter attached?

A: NO,...the lens shade will not work....I just test fitted it....the filter id wide than the hood opening. I have the AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR lens. On a Nikon D810.https://a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1175033-REG/nikon_af_s_nikkor_24_70mm_f_2_8e.html target= _blank www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1175033-REG/nikon_af_s_nikkor_24_70mm_f_2_8e.html/a

Q: 9. Anyone having issues using lens caps and this filter? Can you share what lens cap you're using on top of this?

A: I use the lens cap that came with the filter, and it works quiet well - it's a slip-on, but seems to stay without any issues.

Q: 10. Can 72mm XS-Pro Digital ND Vario MRC-Nano be able to fit Sony FE 16-35mm F4 ZA with XS-Pro UV or UV + Polarizer without Vignette?

A: If filter diameter on your lens is 72 mm there will be no vignett with any 72 mm filter. Vignetting only occurs if the lens does not match crop factor for camera.Hope this helps.

[Glass] Thank You for your excellent service. The ND filter arrived and was to be a gift, so use hasn't occurred yet. I just like B&H- rather than some of the other vendors. Sincerely, C.

[0.52 lb] A well-made filter. Note that 0.6ND is really light. Filtered area has a very slight warm tint.

[8.5 x 6.2 x 1"] This is a big, heavy, tough filter. I think this will be the last ND filter I will ever buy. Kinda surprised how thick 4mm is. Wouldn't shock me if it was bullet proof. Glad I went with the glass filter, I had plastic filters ,they are cheap, but scratches too easily.

[8.5 x 6.2 x 1"] I take a lot of landscape pictures. Lately I have been taking ocean view pictures in the evening and had big contrast issues - bright sky and dark foreground. I had the camera checked out and everything was to spec. HDR mode and Software couldn't correct the problem so I tried the Tiffen Graduated ND filter which solved the problem perfectly. Pictures are much better balanced.

[Glass] I use this filter for scenery photography, where part of the area to be photographed is over exposed. I can't image going in the field with this filter.
