Furnished with studio-class 24-bit / 192 kHz conversion, the Apollo Solo USB gives musicians, producers, and songwriters the appreciable value of high-resolution recording and mixing with distortion and dynamic performance beyond its price point.

The interface features two XLR-1/4" mic/line combo inputs and a 1/4" Hi-Z input, all with Unison integration for precise UAD emulations of classic analog preamps. Impart vintage character of your choosing on microphone and instrument recordings while bypassing the unpredictable nature of old equipment.

Thanks to the switchable low-cut filter, pad, polarity inversion, 48V phantom power, and stereo linking on each analog input, you can efficiently optimize your incoming signals with straightforward buttons on the Apollo Solo USB's face. It offers a dedicated stereo monitor feed and a front-panel headphone output, plus full input and output metering capabilities.

The built-in SOLO Core processing allows you to monitor and record audio using classic analog emulations with near-zero latency. The plug-in bundle included with the Heritage Edition empowers you with 25 top-notch plug-ins ranging from vintage compressor and EQ collections to virtual guitar/bass amps and time-based processors. The included Console application provides control and recall of all interface and UAD plug-in settings including channel-strip presets, drag-and-drop functionality, and dynamically resizable windows.

Please note, the Apollo Solo USB requires an external power supply (included) and a USB 3.0 port on your computer in order to operate. To see if your computer is compatible with the Apollo Solo USB, refer to the manufacturer website for compatibility information.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Could I also use this Rode AI-1 to monitor audio while I edit in Premiere or edit audio in Audition?

A: Yes, and it is recommended to use the interface as your monitoring device.

Q: 2. When monitor is enabled, is computer audio mixed in with the monitor mic loop?

A: Audio from the microphone will be routed directly to the headphones when Direct Monitoring is ON. You will hear only audio from the computer when the Direct Monitoring is not engaged. .

Q: 3. Is this unit sufficient to use with the Shure SM7B?

A: Yes, you can use the EVO 4 with a Shure SM7B. There is sufficient gain for the mic with the built-in preamp. However, if you find that you require more volume from the mic for your application, you can add a Cloudlifter, FetHead or similar device between the mic and EVO 4 for additional gain.

Q: 4. How is the volume level on the monitor out controlled?

A: The output level is worthy of most headphones and active monitors that one would want to connect.

Q: 5. Can this device work with a hub like "Belkin Connect Thunderbolt 4 Core Hub" being connected to it instead directly to a Mac?"

A: Technically, you could connect the Universal Audio Apollo Solo Heritage Edition Desktop 2x4 Thunderbolt 3 Audio Interface with SOLO Core Real-Time UAD Processing to a Mac via a Thunderbolt 4 hub. However, I would not suggest doing this. A hub like this essentially has its own computer inside, so passing audio through it before it hits your computer could introduce unwanted artifacts into your recordings.

Q: 6. Is it okay to connect it to a USB 2.0 port? Mac mini M1 does not have a lot of outputs, but Apple Thunderbolt Display has 3 x USB 2.0.

A: According to Page 01 in the manual, it is compatible with MacOS 10.10 or later with USB 2.0 or 3.0 USB port. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/396153.pdf

Q: 7. Then, if I have this interface connected to a mac mini via Thunderbolt and use ProTools, how can I add preamps/inputs?

A: There is no way to add preamps or physical inputs to the Apollo Solo Heritage. For that, you would need an Apollo Twin that has an ADAT port so that you can add an ADAT preamp for additional channels than what is included with the Apollo Twin. Or, you can add tracks in Pro Tools and record those tracks separately, while listening to the existing audio tracks already recorded, when using the Apollo Solo Heritage.

Q: 8. Can it work with mac computers?

A: B&H # UNAPLSHE is the Universal Audio Apollo Solo Heritage Edition Desktop 2x4 Thunderbolt 3 Audio Interface that is compatible with Mac computers. B&H # UNAPLSUHE is the Universal Audio Apollo Solo USB Heritage Edition Desktop 2x4 USB Type-C Audio Interface for Windows.

Q: 9. Can I use this device with a Shure MXA910 Ceiling Array Microphone?

A: Yes. According to the following page from Shure; "You can use a web application to control the MXA910 and Dante Controller to route audio. Download the Shure Web Device Discovery application to access your device’s web application." https://pubs.shure.com/guide/MXA910/en-US

Q: 10. Please advise if you can comfortably say that the ESI Maya 44 is a direct replacement to M-Audio Delta 1010LT PC Sound Card. If not, can you suggest any other manufacturer that may have the same benefits as the M-Audio's; or advise the difference(s) between the ESI & M-Audio products mentioned above. Thank you?

A: This card is not a direct replacement for the Delta card in several ways; not the least of which is that the output of the MAYA44 is unbalanced high impedance low level line audio, versus the balanced low impedance high level output of the Delta 1010. I had about a dozen of the Delta series and have tried several replacements for it since being discontinued by M-Audio. This card works in place of a Delta 44, but with the understanding that the outputs are not fully compatible in level and impedance. As for a direct replacement of the Delta series cards, there is nothing I have found in a buss card (several USB options out there) anywhere in this price point. Obviously, Audio Science and Digigram makes exact replacement boards, but at 10x the price.

[1x USB-C] So, I was on the fence about buying one these because I'd never actually owned a quality standalone preamp before and I thought the preamps on my apollo twin were already pretty good (which of course they are), but after reading through the reviews for this beast extolling it's sound I thought I'd take a chance. Man oh man am I glad that I did. Everything sounds so warm, smooth, and detailed now that I barely have to EQ my vocals. The noise floor is incredibly low and contrary to a few reviews I've read, I get plenty of headroom to work with. I really couldn't be happier with this purchase, so if you find yourself in a similar situation to where I was, I suggest just going for it.

[3.255 lb] Inexpensive, sounds great. Low clutter, USB-C powered. I'm using it with DaVinci Resolve 17 on a MacBook Pro for ADR and monitoring. It's working well!

[2] Due to its USB slot this state of the art sound card is the one you would choose if you are a broadcaster or professionally record sound on journey. B and H sells these at a budget price. Seen same for twice as much at some retailers.

[24-Bit] It completely redefined my way of producing. Delivery was incredibly fast. The Apollo x4 is a beast of an interface and even so the UaD plugins included in the bundle.

[Internal] The packaging is beautiful; the paper documentation is nonexistent. The online documentation is extremely thorough. If you are a beginner or even if you don't know the differences between balanced and unbalanced cables, the online material is awesome. Super simple and to the point while explaining everything you could ever want to know about the unit and some basic sound engineering principles.

Build: It has a rugged construction and feel to it in part because its aluminum. The knobs are plastic but passable. The volume pots are smooth. The rear IO is perfect in terms of the ports available and can be powered by the USB C port.

Sound: It sounds great. Fairly quiet preamps with a lot of gain makes for an awesome combo for the price. I'll probably never use the Vintage button. The front IO accepts Line level signals only through the TRS part of the jack and automatically switches to it.

Complaints: IT DOES NOT SHIP with a USB C to USB C cable :(
Only a USB A to USB C. With most computers now having USB C, this is frustrating. It does also come with a USB A to 5v barrel connector to power it as well.

Conclusion: I love the build quality, sound it produces, and simplistic design. I don't like that it does not come with a modern USB C cable.
