Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I bought this product and used it 5 or 6 times on an A7s and connected it to a Vlock battery with a 2.1 Amp USB port. When using the A7s the battery inside the case relay runs down and eventually the camera shuts off. In other words, it doesn't work for me. But if I turn the camera off the Vlock charges the Case Relay battery. It would appear the camera uses power quicker than the Vlock battery can charge the Case Relay battery. My question is am I doing it wrong? What can I do to make it work like it is advertised?

A: This is a quirk - you have to unplug the power pack from the relay and replug. The relay will indicate it is charging. If this fails, unplug from the dummy and replug. It will catch and function properly from then on. Not intuitive.

Q: 2. Will this work with Fujifilm X-T2?

A: You need to purchase an adapter for your battery slot. Tether Tools Relay Camera Coupler for Fujifilm Cameras with NP-W126 Battery

Q: 3. Could this in theory power up a BMDPCC 4K which uses the same LPE6 battery model?

A: The Case Relay Power System will not power the BMDPCC. The issue is that this camera requires 12v power. And the Case Relay operates between 7-9v and would not be able to sufficiently power this camera.

Q: 4. Will this adapter work with a non Arca-type L-bracket?

A: No. For Arca-Type L-Brackets bites only.

Q: 5. Can this item connect to the ronin m usb and power a sony a7sii safely?

A: The short answer to your question is I've got no clue . But that said, I use mine on my Nikon D810 and it works great. Great to keep it powered for long duration time-lapse shots.

Q: 6. What size is the DC output jack?

A: The connection is 5521, which means 5.5mm outside diameter and 2.1mm inside diameter.

Q: 7. How much does this item weigh?

A: 25g for the coupler and 114g for the battery.

Q: 8. Is the 1200 MAH internal battery user replaceable? All batteries die sooner or later.

A: It is not replaceable.

Q: 9. Will this product work with name brand DC couplers? For example, I have the Panasonic DMW-DCC8 and DMW-DCC6 couplers for my FZ1000 and FZ80 respectively... will this product plug into these DC couplers, or would I need to buy the DC couplers made by Tether Tools?

A: I have two of these that I run on GH5 and GH5s's using the Anker 13,000mah pack. I have only tested it with the Tether Tools adapter, but it sounds like it should work with the Panasonic adapter equally from what I read. I actually ran full tests just this week. On the GH5s at 4K/30p/100mbps with the display screen open/on, I shut it off when the Case Relay was red but still running at 7 hours and 50 minutes! I also tried on the GH5 and was getting around 7 hours or so. I ran the GH5 with the Panasonic XLR adapter and two SM81 mic's on phantom power and it ran for 6 1/2 hours continuous.

Q: 10. Can I connect this directly to the DC port on the Atomos Ninja Assassin?

A: The Atomos Ninja Assassin supports NP-F series batteries. So if you use this in combination with the Relay Coupler #CRCNPF. I don't see this coupler in B&H's stock but you could ask them to carry it.

[0.08 lb] I bought this to use for powering long duration time lapses in remote locations. I have several external batteries that have USB outputs that will power the Case for overnight or longer duration time lapses.

[0.08 lb] Coupled with the camera appropriate cable, this system works great. If you do long time-lapses it is a must have. If your external power-pack is running low simply switch it to a new one without the camera losing power. I'm probably going to pick up another system for my wife's camera.

[0.08 lb] I used this for my videography project especially during the ceremony where I need to use an external battery for extra duration. It works perfectly! Definitely a real life saver when you can just leave the camera rolling at all time.

[0.08 lb] Who woulda thought of such a simple camera UPS system using consumer USB batteries?! This so perfect for long events and timelapses. I only wish that the Sony mirrorless cameras would record for longer than 30 minutes at a time and it would be a totally hands-off long recording setup. The only problem I ran into was that the a7sii we used it with would sometimes incorrectly detect its battery being almost depleted and wouldn't allows us to format the next card to use. So we had to turn off the camera, take out the dummy battery, put in a normal battery, turn on, format, turn off, take out the normal battery, etc. but hey. It's a third party universal power item. Can't expect it to work perfectly with every single brand :-)
