A: Yes, there is a locking mechanism for the Leofoto QS-45 Quick-Link Tripod Head Quick Release Set (45mm). When one drops the connecting plate on the receiver base, one then turns the ring on the receiver base clockwise to lock the plate in place. To unlock, simply turn the ring counter clockwise. This is similar to the Arca-Swiss Quick-Link but they run in different sizes. The QS-45 is 45mm and much smaller than the Arca-Swiss Quick-Link size.

A: Both, they are very handy. I bought several and just leave them on the items hooked to tripod. they work better and last longer that way

A: Just measured mine. It is perfectly square, 1 5/8 on the bottom, 1 2/8 on the top. It is 3/8 deep from top to bottom. It has a small pin to secure a camcorder. I don't use the pin, so I covered it with a piece of tape. The part is well-made. I should add that I got mine with a Vanguard ball head which I don't recommend. The head doesn't lock anymore after just a couple years of very sparse use. No matter how much you tighten it, it slips.I was in B&H yesterday, and the store copy was the same! Looked nice, good value, didn't hold up. So no more Vanguard for me. But the plate should be OK, just keep a coin around to attach it to the camera. Hope this helps!

[3/8"-16] I have one of these on my tripod, my slider, and my cart and can effortlessly switch between any of them quickly. It's not that it takes impossibly long to unscrew a tripod head the old fashioned way, but the added confidence of doing a quick change and not worrying if you need to switch back. It's well worth it to not be constantly fiddling while the client is sitting there waiting for you. Super expensive, but I can't complain. 5

[2.92 oz / 83 g] Overall I have been very impressed by this little ball head. It is clearly a copy of the RRS version, but don't expect to get THAT level of quality. However, for the price, the head is smooth, has great friction, looks great, and will accomplish everything you expect from it. I am using it for spotting scopes, binoculars, a Sony A7RIII, as well as for a heavy thing that makes loud noises. Would highly recommend this if you don't have the coin to get the RRS. 5

[2.92 oz / 83 g] I saw this recommended to fit between my Move Shoot Move star tracker and the ballhead under my camera body. It solves the problem of the ballhead directly on the MSM coming loose as it rotates throughout the evening. I use the set screws on the undreside of the QS-50 to get a tighter connection on the MSM. So far I have been using it to do longer sub frames and for up to two hours without any problems. 5
