They can be used to prop up furniture and light stands, for leveling camera dolly tracks, or provide temporary seats, workbenches, or stepladders.

Often, the need also arises to make an actor appear taller, either because of their height or to fit with the composition of a particular shot. These boxes are specialized pieces of equipment belonging to the grip department and should not be confused with simple crates, other boxes, or boxes for apples.

[Full] This is the best apple box I have ever owned. It is sturdy and clean looking on set allowing me to use it as a prop when needed as well as a tool for talents, and even a chair when needed. All that it needs is some optional grip tape to avoid sliding when on a smooth surface. Careful when standing on top of the box. 5

[8.855 lb] These are quality items that are solidly built. We considered having our own UCLA facilities department construct these items, but were happy to find these items at B&H. They would have likely cost us more to have them constructed. These look like they'll last us a long, long time. 5

[Full] Great built quality. Easily supports my weight (180 lbs), standing or sitting on them. Beautiful finish (exactly as pictured). As others have noted, the large visible logos are poorly placed, but I suppose they're easily Photoshopped. Note that the finish does my the boxes a little slippery, so if you're going to stack them, I'd recommend strapping/taping them together to avoid accidents. 5

[8.855 lb] I wasn't able to get the unfinished versions of these apple boxes, but I do think this finished kind look sort of classy. Cheaper than Matthews. 5
