Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this work with a Sony Handycam 740 shoe?

A: Yes, the camera does have a dedicated 3.5mm external mic input with plug-in power and a standard shoe mount to attach the VideoMicro.

Q: 2. Can the audio feed be split so that I can plug this into both an iPhone and FM transmitter simultaneously?

A: No it can not. You would need a small mixer.

Q: 3. Would this be good for wildlife?

A: If you will be within a few feet of the subject, the Rode VideoMicro could work, but you would probably have better results if you use a longer microphone which will allow you to pickup sound from further away. The VideoMic NTG (B&H # ROVMNTG), NTG2 (B&H # RONTG2), or NTG4+ (B&H # RONTG4P) can all operate using batteries and can be connected to a camera or recorder that has a 3.5mm TRS mic input.

Q: 4. What distance from your subject will give you the best sound quality?

A: The optimal distance for recording will vary depending on the environment and whether or not there is a significant amount of background noise or when outdoors, wind can make a big difference. When recording outdoors, you may need to be closer to the subject compared to recording indoors. You can use headphones to monitor the audio while recording to make sure that the sound is clear.

Q: 5. Will this Work with the Canon Powershot sx50hs

A: Hi, No, the Canon Powershot SX50 does not have a port to plug in an external microphone. Thank you for shopping at B&H!

Q: 6. How does this work with a Nikon d7200?

A: It plugs into the mic input

Q: 7. Will this work with a standard 1/8" jack on a computer for recording sounds (i.e. as an external computer mic)?

A: If your computer has a 3.5mm microphone input that will provide plug-in power, then yes it will work.

Q: 8. Is this better than build in mic in RX 10 IV?

A: Yes

Q: 9. Can I use this mic with a MacBook Air? If there is not a direct plug in option is there a way to use an adaptor?

A: No, this microphone is designed to be used with a camera which provides power to the microphone. An alternate suggestion would be to use the: IK Multimedia iRig Mic Video Universal Digital Shotgun Microphone BH #IKIRIGMICVD1 • MFR #IP-IRIG-MICVIDEO-IN - https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1518982-REG/ik_multimedia_ip_irig_micvideo_in_irig_mic_video_universal.html. This microphone connects directly to your Macbook Air with one of the included USB cables. I hope this is helpful. Thank you for shopping at B&H!

Q: 10. Will this mic work in digital mode, using only a usb-c cable, to connect to a DJI Osmo Action 3 or 4 cameras? Thanks

A: Yes, the Comica Audio VM10 PRO Shotgun Microphone will work with a USB-C cable to connect to a DJI Osmo Action 3 and 4 cameras.

[0.235 lb] I own many Rode microphones. This one is amazing for the price. Buy it, you will like it. It makes my Panasonic HCWX970 sound 100X better. The voice is nice and clear on all settings. With another mic I had, I could not get the sound where I wanted no matter how much I messed with the settings. What is also crazy is that it comes with a good fuzzy windscreen for this price. I'm very excited about this product. I love the size as well.

[Black] People with far more technical background have already written about the VideoMicro, so my take on this will not be on technical aspects. I'm a stills shooter who has stumbled and bumbled my way into video. For me, one of the larger hurdles has been audio. I'm on a tight, hobby budget and every piece of gear has to be carefully selected. Moreover, I also want everything to fit into one bag. First I'll say this, no, it isn't a good as my Rode NTG2. If you're expecting that kind of performance at this price, then save your money and get something else. That being said, for me it isn't that far off the mark, and it can do some things that larger shotguns can't. For example, be in your camera bag all the time so you can set it up at nearly the drop of a hat. Since it doesn't need batteries and is small, it fills a great place in my audio/video toolkit. Maybe it is like an audio version of the Swiss utility knife. Useful in a lot of situations but not perfect. There can be a noise floor if you plug it directly into the camera, but for general use, that doesn't matter much of the time. For the times that it does I plug it into my Zoom H1 and even with both mounted on the camera, they are less obtrusive than my NTG2 in its shock mount. I've used it in Church settings to grab nice audio clips without looking like a documentary crew. At this price point, that alone might be enough value. But the deadcat that ships with it is quite good. I've gotten good audio with some pretty stiff wind gusting at 12-20 mph. If you are like me, a stills person who is learning audio I think this mic represents a unique value. Darn good audio, flexibility, and value. Combine that with the ease of taking it with you just about everywhere, and for me, this microphone was a natural choice. I have zero regrets with the purchase and love having a portable shotgun with me all of the time.

[Mono] I am new to video making with my Nikon D4 but I knew that I needed a better sound input system. After shopping around I settled on the Video Micro by Rhode - and I am glad I did. The first thing I noticed after taking it out of the box was its compact size. But don't let size confuse you with sound quality - it was excellent. I have big plans for this microphones use during the upcoming holidays but as of right now I am very pleased with the quality of the microphone's construction as well as the sound quality it records.
