The Roland VERSELAB MV1 is a complete, all-in-one, portable music workstation specifically designed to help musicians and producers focus on completing entire songs and compositions. In addition to being packed with a host of powerful tools for producing beats and vocals, the VERSELAB also offers a uniquely fluid workflow, filled with creative tools to inspire your writing and help you bring your musical ideas to fruition.

Use the vast, curated collection of over 3000 onboard sounds—with additional sounds available via Zenbeats and Roland cloud content—to quickly create clips, featuring drums, bass, and melodic parts. The unit's Style Mode offers you a selection of patterns and options to choose from, helping you to get just the right feel from your grooves, even if you're a newcomer to music production.

The Motion Record function helps you add movement to your grooves by recording subtle sound tweaks to keep your beats fresh, while the Chord Mode allows you to play complex chords by triggering individual pads. Use the clips to create Sections and then arrange them in Song Mode for a complete musical bed.

Plug a microphone into the XLR input, which offers 48V phantom power for condenser mics, and you're ready to use the Vocal Mode to record up to 16 vocal takes, each accessible by one of the trigger pads. A host of onboard vocal effects including auto-pitch, harmonizer, radio filter, doubler, and more is available, allowing you to record your vocals with the exact processing you want for different song sections. In addition, vocal takes can be copied and pasted where needed in the song.

When you're ready to complete your tune, switch to Mixing mode for control over EQ, levels, panning, and effects. For a final professional production sheen, add mastering effects across the entire mix bus including multiband compression, limiting, and a 5-band EQ. The VERSELAB stores your productions to SD or SDHC cards and an SD card is included along with an AC adapter, although the unit can also be powered via USB power.

Q: 1. Will the V-1 accept SD Pal Cameras, conected to a converter like this https://a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1037093-REG/ocean_matrix_omx_cv_hdmi_video_to_hdmi_pro.html target= _blank www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1037093-REG/ocean_matrix_omx_cv_hdmi_video_to_hdmi_pro.html/a ?

A: The basic fact of a switcher is that once the frame rate is set, all input signals must be the same frame rate. Thus it is very SOP (standard operating procedure) to use converters such as the Ocean Matrix Video to HDMI Pro Mini Converter/Scaler to make a source confirm to the switcher. Since we have not tested this combination, we can only give the opinion we do not see any reason it will not work as desired.

Q: 2. can the preview output be the same as the program output? i.e. two program outs for two screens?

A: You can accomplish this by using an HDMI Splitter, such as this one: https://bhpho.to/3tlqnU1

Q: 3. can it be rack mount?

A: No. Unless you find a way to rig it yourself but there is no bolt on setup for it. I use velcro onto a mobile video cart we use.

Q: 4. Does this switcher include the remote control software?

A: Yes it does. This switcher will include the V-1SDI RCS dedicated computer software, which is compatible for both Mac and PC.

Q: 5. What is the maximum length of the HDMI cable if you the Live Feed?

A: In general the longest length for a standard HDMI cable without any signal degradation is around 35 feet. For anything longer than that you would want to look in to a product to extend the signal, such as a LAN Extender that uses Cat6 cable or an HDMI Super Booster.

Q: 6. Is the app for IPAD only or will it work with other tablets?

A: At this point they only have an APP for iOS for the V-1HD. You will not be able to control it with an Android Device. The V-1HD also has dedicated computer software for both Mac and PC, so you do have the option of controlling it with a computer as well.

Q: 7. how do you show media clips? does that take a channel?

A: I use a laptop to slides and play clips and it does take up a channel. I know of no way around this.

Q: 8. isd it possible to transpose a smf in sequencer mode??

A: Yes you can transpose with your SMF in sequencer mode.

Q: 9. In the PIP effect, do you have control over the size of the window and location and also can you crop the horizontal or vertical of the video window?

A: Hi. I love this unit. Regarding your question - I don't think you can control the size, but you can control the location. You can also set the size and color of the video window

Q: 10. I know the preview screen has a split screen mode, but does the output as well? As in can I switch from showing one source, to all 4 at once if I wanted?

A: The Preview Output can be set as a Multi-View window which allows you to see all 4 of your sources. You cannot do the same for all 4 HDMI signals through its program out I'm afraid. However this unit does allow you to output 2 sources through its Picture-in-Picture and Split Screen Modes.

[Digital] It's expensive. But the balanced XLR inputs, stereo RCA in, aux in, balanced TRS outs and thorough iPad control are worth the extra expense. Layout is intuitive, metal box is sturdy as are the connectors. EQ/compressor/limiter on each channel and on master out. Brightness/contrast on all ins. Also saturation, color and zoom on input 4 scaler. PiP, split screen, etc. at touch of a button. After using Roland V-1HD+ I would not be happy with the more popular, cheaper competition. I don't know why B&H pics don't include screenshots of the iPad app. That's the best feature of this product. You can see them here - https://proav.roland.com/global/products/v-1hd_plus_remote/

[Digital] This is an update to a previous review; Roland proactively contacted me based on my previous feedback (quoted as originally written below) and has done a great job of making things right and standing behind their product. Roland Technical Support was prompt and professional in exchanging the defective unit we had received initially for a replacement unit; in addition to the manufacturer's own burn-in and testing period, we've used the replacement switcher on some fairly hot days outside and the it has been stable. The surface of the switcher still gets noticeably warm, but no further crashes or instability have been reported from the field, and it does a great job of being a simple yet powerful little switcher. It's not without a few quirks and default settings that should always be checked - most notably, the sleep timer that isn't disabled by default - but it's a great value and for simple jobs, nice and easy to just setup and go compared to anything else in this price range. ORIGINAL REVIEW FROM 4/10/17, which this review replaced: Except for the fact that it has repeatedly overheated, in the middle of a show, dropping all inputs and outputs until it is manually power-cycled, it's a *fantastic* piece of gear. Until Roland comes up with a solution / better thermal design in hardware, it's probably best to stick with the older, more stable V-1HD and spend the money you'll save on a few SDI/HDMI converters....

[16x Pad] Will update review as I log some more hours on this unit, as I havent had a chance to do much more than turn it on.

Was pretty blown away at the deal I got through B&H. First I bought a refurbished Roland V-1SDI for close to $400 off due to it being refurbished, I had been saving for this to incorporate live streaming into my business. Then one morning I log on, and the V-1SDI refurbished units are on sale in the Deal Zone for $499..... Take my money! Saved close to $1000 by buying refurbished on additional sale from B&H.

Currently have the rest of the cables/accessories to fully test the unit. Will update the review as I put more hours into the unit.

[USB Bus Power] Was making due with Feelgood's LivePro, but this unit reminds me of working switchers on a remote three camera shoot for sporting events. Solid feel and build, flexible design and you can tweak to your heart's delight!!

[16x Pad] This keyboard has the Sounds of a Kronos with out the heavy price tag. 88 weighted keys with a nice feel and action. Easy to navigate color touch screen and many user programmable buttons make using this keyboard a pleasure. The setlist feature is a a huge help for live performance. Now for the downside. This keyboard is heavy. Weighing in at about 50 pounds. Also the transpose button is a little weird having to use a shift key then push the octave change buttons to transpose. . Also the boot up time is very long, about 2 minutes before you can play. All in all this is a great keyboard.

[3x Knob] I was fortunate to get this item at considerable mark down that put it within the reach of my budget. The last time I owned a video switcher it worked only if all the connected cameras were genlocked.  This unit enables use of non-genlocked cameras.  So, by getting a couple of component-video-to-SDI converters I was able to start using my two Sony FX1 HD cameras to do live switching.  And this unit provide an incredible range of customization to adapt it to your needs.
