Designed by a team of former AKG personnel, the Austrian Audio OC18 Dual Set Cardioid Condenser Microphonesis a matched pair of large-diaphragm studio condenser microphones offering detailed audio capture that's ideal for stereo miking solo instruments, drum kits, and ensembles. The OC18's handmade 1" ceramic capsule features a gold-plated polymer membrane and a cardioid polar pattern, which yields reliable on-axis directivity with enhanced off-axis rejection. Being 48 VDC phantom powered, the OC18 does not require batteries or an external power supply.

Front-panel switches are provided for easy access to the pad and roll-off settings. Set the pad to -10 or -20 dB to avoid distortion when miking loud sources such as drums or guitar cabinets. Activate the high-pass filter at 40, 80, or 160 Hz for attenuation of low-frequency problems including rumble and proximity effect. The OC18's housing is constructed of zinc-aluminum alloy for strength and durability. The OC18 Dual Set Plus includes two shockmounts, two mic clips, a stereo bar, two windscreens for mitigating noise from breaths and blasts of air, and a protective carry case for easy transport and storage of the entire bundle.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can U3C be used even with a dynamic microphone that doesn't need phantom power with phantom power switched off?

A: The Xvive Audio U3C Set Wireless Plug-On System for Condenser Microphones is only meant for condenser microphones, and the manufacturer specifically advises against connecting dynamic microphones to this system. It does not appear that phantom power can be switched off on this version and therefore has the potential to damage dynamic microphones.

Q: 2. Can you run a pair of these for a stereo mic (2 Tx, 2 Rx)? Interference issues?

A: Yes you could run a stereo pair without interference.

Q: 3. Are the newer versions of this mic made in Japan or China?

A: Japan

Q: 4. Is there a hanging XY mount for these mics?

A: No, I have not found one yet.

Q: 5. Can U3C be used with condenser microphone for capturing bird songs with Nikon Z8 mirrorless camera?

A: Yes, the XVive U3C Set Wireless Plug-On System for Condenser Microphones will be compatible with condenser microphones, however it will need some sort of adapter in order to be fully compatible with the Z8. You will need to use an adapter like B&H # KOLMT100.

Q: 6. Is the internal battery replacable?

A: The internal batteries in the Xvive U3C system are replaceable but the will need to be replaced by the manufacturer or an authorized service center.

Q: 7. Does it come with a cable? the in the the box tab does not show it coming with one.

A: Yes it comes with an xlr cable built into mike. I believe its 20-25 long. I used these mikes for community play performances.

Q: 8. Can U3C provide phantom power to Rode RTG3 microphone?

A: Yes, the Xvive Audio U3C Set Wireless Plug-On System for Condenser Microphones (2.4 GHz) can provide phantom power to the NTG3.

Q: 9. Best wind shields for this? Both fluffy and wind shield?

A: The Sennheiser MZW-8000 Windscreen (BH #SEMZW8000) is the best choice of foam windscreen for the Sennheiser MKH 8040 Compact Cardioid Condenser Microphone. For higher wind scenarios, the Rycote Baseball Windscreen and Baseball Windjammer Combo Kit (0.7" Diameter Hole) (BH #RY039710) is a great solution.

Q: 10. Is there a third party shock mount for this mic that is more affordable than the $300 one they sell?

A: We offer BH #AUSSMNMN as a more inexpensive compatible shockmount for the Neumann TLM 103 Large-Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser Microphone.

[-10 / -20 dB] So far I am impressed. These are nicely neutral but sound more expensive than others in its category. Not brittle like the AKG 414. Warm bottom end. You can tell they have AKG heritage. Top quality build. Great for vocals and orchestra/choir as stereo pair. Excellent design that allows output on both capsules simultaniously. This allows it to serve as 2 mics and also changeable pattern in post. Can add natural room reverb to taste. Very happy with my purchase.

[Black] I bought a pair of these to use as dedicated drum overheads, and they're great in that capacity. I have the -20 db pad engaged to better utilize my preamp. The only problem is that I keep taking one of the mics down to use on other sources. They sound great on guitar cab and incredible on my voice.

[Phantom Power] Very open, clear and accurate microphone. Sounds really beautiful and well balanced. It's good for both instruments and vocals from classical to pop music. The quality of this microphone is exceptional and it's definitely worth than the price. I am now mainly using this microphone along with Neumann and DPA microphones. I highly recommend this modernized amazing cardioid condenser microphone to all musicians.

[Mono] I've had these for several months now and still can't believe how great they sound. I usually gravitate towards condensers with transformers or mics that aren’t too bright. These are beautiful, full-sounding mics with a nice mid-range and amazing clarity, but they never sound harsh. Useful on many sources. Very solidly made. They have the utilitarian flexibility of my C414 B ULS mics, but with that added brilliance / air that the B ULS mics don't have.

[Solid-State] I bought the OC 818 stereo set on a Thursday, tested with some instrumentals at home then decided to use them right away on a location recording. This was a classical concert using only distant mics (no spots). I had a pair of Neumann KM140 cardiods in ORTF for the main pair in the center, and the OC818's utilized as flankers 14' to the left and right of the main pair. All mics were 11' up. The AA's were set to cardiod. It really sounded terrific. The mics blended well, got great detail, low noise, consistent polar pattern and very good frequency response. No stress when it got loud. Very pleased with the capture and I got a lot of compliments.

I look forward to using both outputs from the mics in order to tweak the pattern in post using polar pilot app. Also really looking forward to trying them as a coincident pair with 1 in cardiod for the center, and the other in fig 8 for the sides for ms. You can get the free Stereo Creator plugin from Austrian Audio to assist in the matrixing duties in order to do ms, blumlein etc. techniques.

[Cardioid] I use this for orchestral recording and get good results. AT does not offer matched pair, but they are well matched despite I received mics that have serial no. of 263 & 1454.

[Cardioid] Great sounding! Quite clean and modern sounding without any muddiness like some other LDC's. Similar sound to DPA microphones actually! I'd it's about as good as it gets for a LDC microphone.
