Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Two questions about using this with the OM-1 camera coupled with Olympus 150-400mm f/ 4.5 lens: (1) is the mini sufficient to support the weight of this combo, or do I need the pro version; and (2) is the foot that comes with the lens long enough to balance or do I need to purchase on the separate foot to attach to the lens foot. Thank you.

A: The Flexshooter Mini Arca Ballhead is rated for 21 lbs, therefore it can hold the OM-1 and the Olympus 150-400mm f/4.5 Lens which totals up to 5.4 lbs. The foot at the bottom of the tripod collar is long enough to balance it properly on this head.

Q: 2. Is it possible to replace original lever clamp with a RRS lever clamp?

A: Unfortunately, no, you may not replace the quick release clamp included with the Gitzo GIGH4383LR Series 4 Center Ball Head with Arca-Type Lever Release QR Receiver with a Really Right Stuff quick release clamp.

Q: 3. How does this compare to RRS BH-55?

A: The RSS BH-55 would offer more control with its dual 90 degree drop notches, however with a lower weight capacity of 50 lbs versus the GIGH4383LR.

Q: 4. Will the clamp on this head work with the RRS BQDS plate?

A: Yes, the following RRS quick release plates will work for the follow ball head.

Q: 5. Is the FlexShooter Mini suitable to use with a travel tripod such as the Gitzo Traveler GT1545T Series 1?

A: Yes, the FlexShooter Mini Ball Head with Arca-Type Locking Knob Receiver is compatible with the Gitzo Traveler GT1545T tripod.

Q: 6. Is this ball head compatible with the Gitzo GT3542L tripod?

A: Yes, it is. :)

Q: 7. Does it work in subzero temperature?

A: Yes, the FlexShooter Mini Ball Head with Arca-Type Flip-Lever Receiver works in subzero temperature without any issue.

Q: 8. For a 200-600 mm Lens what lens plate would you recommend for the FlexShooter?

A: To mount the Sony FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS lens on the FlexShooter Mini Arca Ballhead get the Kirk Replacement Foot for Sony FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS Lens. Here is the link: https://bhpho.to/3b7G0JX

Q: 9. Does this ball head require lubrication?

A: Not unless you are instructed by the manufacturer, as it may void your warranty if you use the wrong lubricant. If your ball head doesn't feel as smooth as it was Day 1, please reach out to Gitzo for instructions.

Q: 10. Wondering how the mini would perform with a spotting scope?

A: This head would be fine when using it with a spotting scope and an appropriate plate.

[Ball Head] I use this exclusively to shoot off my Lenscoat beanbag and it works like a charm from my Wrangler window. Reviews as always are mixed and normally negative reviews are caused by inexperienced photographers. I had been using a larger PMG Katana jr gimbal but it became a bit cumbersome for this purpose. This product solved all of those problems and more. I am extremely happy with it!

[Yes] Works really well with my Canon 90D & Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II lens as well as with the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS lens - it balances as advertised. And unlike with my other heads (I own too many), no drooping when tightening the head into a locked position. It is a nice replacement for the larger and heavier Manfrotto ball head that I had been using. A plus is that unlike when using the Manfrotto, I don't have to remove the head to make it fit in the tripod bag I use. I was considering buying a gimbal to go with my Manfrotto ball head but I'm glad I went with this head instead - it covers both uses for me. It is pricey and I went back and forth on ordering it but now that I have it, I am glad that I did and don't regret the purchase. And B&H performed as well as always - shipped quickly, delivered on time, and well packaged.

[Ball Head] After reading both the pros and cons of the FlexShooter Mini and Pro models online by owners of this head, I was not sure what to expect. For the past several years I have been using a Gitzo GHFG1 Gimbal Fluid Head and it has become my absolute favorite among the many Gimbal heads I have owned, including the Wimberley and Jobu heavy duty models, particularly for shooting birds in flight. I purchased both the Flexshooter Mini and the heavier Pro model to try out. I found both of them easily handled my Canon R5 camera + 600mm F4. My copies of the Flexshooter Mini and Pro panned and tilted silky smooth. Although completely different to operate than a standard Gimbal head, the instructions included with these heads is straight forward and easy to understand. So it did not take long before I was completely comfortable with both of them. The FlexShooter heads provide the same functionality as a standard gimbal head and more. The Flexshooter heads also include a built in leveler, which is something a standard gimbal head does not provide. The only functional differences I found with these heads is that they require increasingly more force when raising the lense to a high vertical angle. This is due to the spring loaded design of these heads. In this regard, I found the resistance in the FlexShooter mini to be considerably less than the larger Flexshooter Pro model I received. However, I did not find the resistance in either model to be a significant issue to me (I am 5'-6, 145lbs and 81yrs old). With the additional advantages of reduced size and weight compared to standard gimbal heads, I think you owe it to yourself to try out one of the Flexshooter heads. I plan on keeping both of the models I received.

[1.905 lb] I got this because my heavy ball head heat coming loose on the very small platform of my very light tripod. Now the head stays tight and I don't have to worry about my camera falling off.

[90°] For big lenses a gimbal used to be required, but this is lighter and more compact and works VERY well, keeping big lenses flexible and stable, especially for bird photography. Also, this ballhead can be used for regular lenses too, so no need to carry a separate gimbal and ballhead.

[Yes] This has made my life so much simpler. It truly works and is so light. I previously used a gimbal but it was bulky and heavy, and I've never really loved any (traditional) ball head I've had. This Ball Head has replaced both my Wemberley and my Kirk ball head. It is not quite the perfect gimbal but it is absolutely fine enough for my purposes (sports at a distance primarily) and does everything I ever needed from a ball head. I don't do astro or need to shoot straight up so its range is everything I've ever needed. Leveling it is a breeze, btw. I went with this Mini over the Pro because I'm transitioning to mirrorless and I found the resistance on this worked better for a mirrorless camera plus telephoto. But it also works fine with my older D850 and 600 prime. I'm not a professional and maybe if I were I would require the 5% smoother workings of a dedicated gimbal but for my amateur purposes this has been the best addition I've had to my setup in years. And, of course, at 1 pound, it is so easy to bring along.

[Ball Head] It takes a little to get used to but I really like this ballhead. Its build quality is great and it's pretty small and lightweight. I have used it with my Sony 200-600 and it handled that weight very well.

Ideas for improvement:
- Tightening up the lock handle requires a lot of force
- Releasing the quick release requires a lot of turns. It would be good if this could be done quicker.

Overal a great product.

[90°] Just got this from B&H and only tested it in the house so far. 5/5 for it's intended purpose of a ball head for long lenses - specifically the Sony 200-600mm with Sony A1. It balances the lens perfectly without issue and I think it's superior to a gimbal head because of it's small size. Range of motion is acceptable to me although some people online have pointed out edge cases where a gimbal might be superior.

3/5 as a ball head for other use cases. It's usable but ergonomics don't feel as good as a regular ball head.

Giving it 5/5 since I bought it mainly for use with long lenses and can double up for landscapes if needed.

[Yes] I have a 500mm f4 lens sitting on top of the FlexShooter Pro and it work very well for me. I mainly photograph Whitetail deer and I have to say it works great. I've had good luck with a ball head for years, but when not paying attention you can get 'Flop', no good. With the FlexShooter Pro you set the correct tension for your set up and it's so smooth and no 'Flop'. It's easy to level on the tripod in the field.

[90°] I am so impressed with this bullhead. It is much lighter than either my regular bullhead or my gimbal head. It works quite well, is well designed, and well made. I highly recommend this to anyone seeking a quality combination unit.
