Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the STF-8 compatible with the Pen F , will be using the 60mm f2.8 macro?

A: It should be compatible with any Olympus body. The only limitation to be aware of is the lack of in-body focus stacking on the Pen F (only available on the E-M1s), but single-shot and focus bracketing should both work.

Q: 2. Will this mount to the Panasonic DG Macro 45mm 2.8 ?

A: Yes this will fit and function on that lens.

Q: 3. I have the OM-D E-M5 MII and I can't get STF-8 to fire during focus bracketing. Is it not compatible or am I missing a setting?

A: You have to change another setting to get it to flash. I had the same problem until I found the answer in the manual. It still took some effort because the manual was not that clear.Under Menu select 2 Advance Camera Shooting Options , Anti-Shock/Silent , Silent Mode Setting , Flash Mode , Allow .It took me a long time to figure this one out. Be sure to set your flash time long enough for the flash to recharge.Good Luck...Doug

Q: 4. Flash will not fire on the OM D I mark II. Is there a setting buried in the menus that has to be changed?

A: By any chance do you have the camera set for STACKING tr SILENT SHUTTER mode? if yes go to SHOOTING MENU 2 then go to AntiShock/Silent press the OK button and then scroll down to SILENT MODE SETTINGS then scroll to the right and then scroll down to select FLASH MODE and set to ALLOW. If that does not resolve the issue please contact Olympus Technical Support 1-888 -553-4448

Q: 5. With this be a good lighting system to uses on a copystand to digitize old photos / drawing / paintings?

A: The Olympus STF-8 Twin Flash is really for macro shots—to be used with a macro lens. If you use this on a copy stand to photograph flat art, you'd need to position the lights further away. Otherwise, you would get glare on the photos.

Q: 6. Will this work on a panasonic GH5?

A: Sorry, I don't know the Panasonic system.

Q: 7. What size is the thread on this pan bar?

A: That's not specified by the manufacturer at the moment.

Q: 8. an this be mounted on the 12-100mm 72filter threads? Would a step down/up ring be needed?

A: The Olympus STF-8 Twin Flash is designed for use with macro lenses; specifically, the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 30 f/3.5 Macro Lens, the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 60mm f/2.8 Macro lens, and the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO Lens, and comes with the 46mm Ring Adapter and the 62mm Ring Adapter. It is not designed for use on the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-100mm f/4 IS PRO Lens, which uses the larger 72mm filter thread size. If you choose, you may purchase the Sensei 72-62mm Step-Down Ring, B&H # SESDR7262, along with the 62mm adapter to connect the flash to your lens, but you may experience vignetting when using this setup on your lens.

Q: 9. Do they have separate hot shoe hook ups, for each light? I would like to use the Really Right stuff bracket.

A: No, they don't have shoes, just the power unit.

Q: 10. Does this come with diffusers , if not, where can you buy them ????

A: It comes with two diffusers. Unfortunately you're going to need more diffusion. They're like the ubiquitous Sto-Fen diffusers, if you find that adequate fine, but for softer lighting you'll need some kind of DIY solution to put between the flash heads and the subject.

[4.84" / 12.2 cm] I use this product with my tripod and the new look is nice, firm and sturdy. What's good about this product is that it's not to bulky and fits in my tripod bag with out me having to detach it from the head.

[4.84" / 12.2 cm] I took a big gulp at the price, but bought this flash because I love close up photography, and have found lighting to be challenging. I really love the many combinations of flash you can set for these 2 units, and the results are fantastic! They are a bit fiddly for bigger or arthritic hands, but once you get them set up, they are easy to use.

[1.295 lb] I have been looking (tediously) for a table-top tripod sturdy enough for iris photography that has a quick and easy center-column height adjustment, but with a small enough profile to fit on a thin table. After researching about 12 different tripods, this is the one I landed on. Never heard of the brand before so I was reluctant at first, especially because it was so cheap. I'm glad I took a chance on it.

My initial impression was pleasant surprise due to the overall quality and intuitive leg design (a light twist of the leg produces a tactile click for each leg section. The legs can be extended and re-locked in less than a second. It's very sturdy dropped down to the second leg position and I'm confident this will hold my A7RV, 90mm macro, macro rail and ring light in place with minimal wobble.

I have just 1 gripe and one concern (respectively): the knob that secures the pan bar can be an encumbrance depending on what you're attaching, and the leg sections are thin plastic that might fail the test of time after many extensions and collapsings (remains to be seen).

[4.84" / 12.2 cm] This is a well built tripod that packs small for hiking and travel. It feels strong and stable. The legs can be set at many angles. I would recommend it for anyone looking for a compact tripod.

[1.295 lb] Using the twin flash with the 60mm macro lens in the field even with a bit of air movement of subject allows for tack sharp images. TTL feature, manual focus and being able to fine tune flash power ratio and location between the two flashes allows for more pleasing images by limiting contrast and shadows. Need more time and practice but works flawlessly so far.

[4.84" / 12.2 cm] This twin flash is just what I needed to go with my 30 and 60mm Olympus Macro lenses with my Olympus EM 1 Mark 11. After reading the instructions, I attached it to my Olympus, set the flash and took some macro of a few thing. The photos were amazing !!!! Details were perfect !!!! No one could ask for a better combination that Olympus has provided than this, for Macro Photography. Jim, Charlotte, NC.

[1.295 lb] I use my sony A7IV connected to mac via camlink. I've been looking for a tripod desk solution. I had one, I did not trust AT ALL! Basically the camera is going to live, breathe, eat, and sleep on this tripod. I was soooo shocked when I received it. WELL built, and amazing price to value. Picking up a few more!

[1.295 lb] I am so glad I purchased this as soon as it came available, and whether coupled with my 60mm macro or 50-200mm+25mm ext tube I am getting great well lit images first time out. The lighting permutations are extensive offering various ratios between the heads or manual outputs down to 1/125th. The clip on diffusers do a good job of softening the light and improving coverage at 1:1 magification. It comes in a well made case and Rings to fit the 60mm which I own plus the 12-40 & 40-150mm Pro lenses that I don't but with the purchase of an inexpensive step down ring it also fits my 50-200mm+25mm ext tube with no sign of vignetting.
