The Gossen DigiPro F2 Flash Ambient Light Meter v2is a high-performance allrounder for analog and digital photographers and filmmakers who use continuous illumination as well as flash. The light meter demonstrates the full potential by means of the incident light metering method which, as compared with the reflected light metering method used by cameras, functions independently of subject quality. The swivel head makes it possible to lower the measuring sensor all the way down to the subject level for macro and tabletop photography

When the shutter pre-selection metering function is used in photo mode, the desired exposure time is specified, for example in order to focus sharply on moving subjects. The exposure meter then determines the f-stop, which has to be set at the camera. By pressing and holding the metering key and scanning the subject in this mode, the contrast range, is displayed at the f-stop scale in f-stop values. When the aperture pre-selection metering function is used, the desired f-stop is specified, for example in order to set the depth of focus. The exposure meter then determines the required exposure time. With the exposure value measuring function, the exposure value as well as various f-stop / shutter speed combinations are displayed. The adjustable correction value with +9.9 EV cover large extension factors for neutral-density filters used for long time exposures in daylight.

With flash exposure metering, it's possible to work either with or without a synchronizing cable. The exposure meter determines the corresponding aperture for correct exposure using the preset flash sync time and displays it as a digital value, and as a flashing point on the analog aperture scale. Furthermore, a marking is continuously displayed for the aperture of the continuous light component, making it possible to estimate the continuous light proportion of total light. If flash power is insufficient to reach a selectable f-stop setting, the exposure meter can calculate the required number of multiple flashes to this end.

The exposure value function can be switched over to a simple measurement of illuminance in lux or fc for setting up film lighting. In the HD CINE mode durations ranging from 1/24 to 1/120 of a second are made available in a targeted fashion, corresponding to frame rates of 24 to 120 fps. In order to do justice to modern HD cameras, the ISO setting has also been expanded to include the value of ISO 850.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I have an old Luna Pro SBC that I have to use at ASA200 to get it to read accurately now instead of the ASA400 I normally would use. I've looked at this meter and concerned about the accuracy in reflective mode since I need a good one with my older Nikon F. Will this meter fit the bill?

A: Lunapro SBC was/is a great meter; how much will it cost to get it repaired?

Q: 2. Does this light/flash meter have full, one half, and one third stop shutter settings? Example...shutter speed 125,160,200,and 250 of a second. Thank You

A: The meter does measure in 1/1, 1/2 or 1/3 EV.

Q: 3. what material is this meter made of?

A: The body of the Gossen Digisix 2 Ambient Light Meter is made of a hard industrial plastic.

Q: 4. is this lightmeter should fire the flash when connected by wire?

A: How do i connect the Meeter to read the flash without cord ? I tried many times and it doesn’t work?!

Q: 5. Will this meter display percent of flash contribution?

A: Unfortunately, this meter would not display a percentage of flash.

Q: 6. Can this light meter fire and measure the shutter and f stop of a studio flash without it being attached to the studio flash itself?

A: Flash readings can be taken with or without synchronizing cable. When used in conjunction with a synchronizing cable the flash is triggered by pressing the M button - the flash is automatically triggered and measured. When used without a cable, the meter will wait up to 45 seconds for you to trigger the flash yourself.

Q: 7. is battery mounted in digisix or seperated?

A: The meter comes with the battery installed.

Q: 8. Does this meter have a screen backlight so I can read it in dim lighting?

A: Yes, the screen is lit. You can adjust the brightness of it.

Q: 9. Will this work with pocket wizards?

A: It will only with PC connecting cable

Q: 10. Does this meter come with a case?

A: Yes, the Gossen DigiPro F2 flash/ambient light meter V2 comes with a protective softcase.

[0.635 lb] I have been in Photography most of my life, off and on. And have been using in camera light meters, and felt there must be something better. I have a old Luba Pro which still works great. But as my eyes get older, I felt I needed a digital. Have always liked Gossen, got the DigaPro, love it, easy to use and fantastic photos.

[LCD] I still shoot a lot of film in cameras that don't have TTL metering. After using spot, broader scope reflective meters and this incident meter (and its predecessors) for decades now, I have settled on incident meters as best fitting my style of photography. For what I do, it is as good as the excellent TTL meters in my Nikon D4 and Olympus digital cameras. In some admittedly rare situations, it is even better. I prefer the Gossen to corresponding Sekonic models purely because of the form factor. Both are excellent tools.

[LCD] It is my second Gossen that I buy. The last one last me more than 10 years. And when I needed to order another light meter, only gossen came to my mind. It is a really good device and does exactly what I need.

[Spherical] It may not be fully automated, but it'll get the job done.

[Spherical] First, let me say that I bought this meter on one of B&H's Deal of the Day sales for about half price making it an outstanding value. I have used a multitude of meters over the last 45+ years. so I do have some experience. This is a relatively simple meter by today's standards, a feature that I like. If your looking for a meter that can do it all with lots of accessories, look elsewhere. The instruction manual is sort of sparse, but I was able to figure it out after about five minutes of playing with the meter. It's very light weight and relatively compact and will fit in most shirt pockets, a feature that I like. The exposure readings are accurate for both flash and ambient light. The light receptor rotates in all directions, another nice touch. Now for the Cons. The neck strap is junk. The case is well made of neoprene, but I don't like it's horizontal format and the velcro closure is way too strong making it somewhat hard to open. Some bemoan the lack of an off switch, but it shuts off automatically so I don't really find it a problem. At full price, I would give it four stars, but for what I paid it's a five star meter.

[1/1000] Easy to use, flash or ambient, well made (in Germany), couldn't ask for more.

[1/1000] I have used the previous version of this meter for many years until it bought the farm. It's perfect for use with BW or color negative film. Scan the scene in reflective mode and the contrast range is displayed. Set the exposure to 1.5 stops above the min value (or 2 stops above in a really high contrast scenes) and your negative will be perfect every time. I have not found a meter better for negatives. (For slides I use my trusty old Minolta 1 degree spot meter).
With mirrorless digital, WYSIWYG makes a light meter totally obsolete so consider this meter the best choice only for negative film general photography.

[1x AA] I have used many light meters in the last sixty years, many of them Gossen, and this tiny marvel might be the best. If you don’t need spot or flash, this might be the best meter out there. All its functions are easy to find and use, and the bonus clock, timer and thermometer have all come in handy.

[LCD] You can't beat the convenience of this little pocket light meter. There are times when I want to use an incident light meter, and this Gossen Digisix 2 fits the bill perfectly. Either for use with a camera that does not have a light meter, or when you want an incident rather than a reflected light reading, this thing seems to be the ticket.

[Spherical] But does the job.  only 40 grams ready to go.  comes with a small protctive sock, and a CR2032 battery.  Those last a long time, but I carry a spare just to have one) (CR2032s are hard to find if you arent in America [where Walgreens carry them] and arent near a camera store [that you know of...]
