Q: 1. Hi does it work also as a hdmi capture device or would i need one? i use it for live streaming on youtube. If i would like to live stream with two hdmi camera does this device do the job and if my capture card has only got one hdmi imput will it be able to support the roland swithcher in doing the job? Does it work with OBS? thank you

A: The Roland V-1HD does not have any streaming capabilities built-in. However you can connect one of the HDMI outputs to a capture device for streaming to OBS. The Magewell XI100DUSB HDMI USB 3.0 Capture Dongle, which is B&H # MA100USBHDMI , is compatible with OBS and would be a great choice to pair with this switcher for live streaming. You will be able to connect two HDMI cameras to the switcher and then the switcher to the Magewell for streaming.

Q: 2. How do you mix the audio? If I have 3 HDSDI signals coming in and RCA L/R from an external mixer How do I control the levels?

A: You will be able to mix the audio from the video inputs and the RCA audio inputs using the V-1SDI RCS dedicated computer software that comes with this product. The software allows you to connect the V-1SDI to either a Mac or PC through a USB cable. From there you will be able to control the switcher and you'll be given a digital mixing board for the audio.

Q: 3. Can I use GoPro Hero4 cameras with this switcher?

A: Yes, I have (3) GoPro Hero 4 Black cameras attached to the unit and it works perfectly.

Q: 4. I am looking for a device to superimpose / mix the inputs of multiple video sources at once. I see that the V-1HD has 4 HDMI inputs but from what I understand, only two can be blended into a single output at one time. Is this correct?

Q: 5. If i want to RECORD, WEBCAST and PREVIEW from the outputs, could I use a hdmi splitter?

A: The Roland V-1HD does have a Preview output so you are good there. Downsteam, you should be able to do what ever you wish with your HDMI signal.

Q: 6. What is the best way to color grade the video signals coming? If I have a C100 coming in, am I able to make any adjustments to the color? Assuming need another piece of gear to do this properly but not sure what I need.

A: When using a camera like the C100, which has an HDMI output, and a more basic switcher like the Roland V-1HD there really is not an additional piece of gear that is going to allow you to color grade the camera. However you can always adjust the settings in the camera itself. There are different picture profiles you can adjust and you can even dial in the exact white balance you desire.

Q: 7. Would there be any problem connecting HD cameras via HDMI cables of 150+ feet? Some switchers I've researched have problems with this.

A: Actually, it is not the switcher but the signal that cannot handle long cable runs since HDMI becomes too weak after 30-50' or so. Booster cable can get this up to 100' but for longer runs we suggest signal conversion to SDI or Cat5/6 cabling. Please email us so that we can further assist you. provideo at bhphoto dot com.

Q: 8. The only allowable input formats are 60fps at 1080i, 1080p or 720p? Any device having lower FPS attributes will not be seen by the V-1HD? Also, if I had a device that outputs 720p and another device that outputs 1080p, can they both connect to the V-1HD simultaneously?

A: The V-1HD can mix between 1080I and 1080p only. In the 720p mode all HDMI sources must be 720p. Sorry, but the V-1HD will not work with any formats like 480i/P - you can use one of the Roland Multi-Format mixers like the Roland V-40HD.You can however select a output format to be 720p, 1080i or 1080p at all times to downscale or upscale.

Q: 9. Anyone know what a orange square on the monitor means?? It's in the upper right corner of one of the 4 HDMI preview screens.

A: The lit red means final output video. Lit green means preset video (the video to be output next).

Q: 10. Will this video switcher work with a Sony HDV Handycam HDR-FX100?

A: If the HDR-FX100 can output a live camera signal through its HDMI socket, I don't see any reason why it would not make a direct connection with the HDMI input of the Roland V-H1D and be a switched-able input. This Roland switcher is great and easy to operate.Enjoy.

[VST] This was our first purchase of Waves plugins and we are thoroughly impressed with the plugins that are included. Being a drummer myself, I especially like the Eddie Kramer drum plugin. It is super easy to use and dial in just the right sound for drums with that classic rock sound. Also, another great addition is the V-EQ3 which is based on the vintage 1066 and 1073 Neve consoles. Great plugins at a great price for a marvelous bundle. Designed for the modern professional who is working to achieve analog studio-quality inside the new digital audio technology world. [VST] These plugins are top notch. Stream is better than Granite and most other granular plugins I know and Fold has a unique combination of distortion and bitcrush you won't find anywhere else. Extreme fun toys for sound designers. 5

Not only is there a ton of soundtracks and sound effects, but also there are various tutorials that help show how to mix and create you own sound fx and soundtracks. This is some of the best money you'll send, and for what your getting, $ is a steal. I literally use these any pretty much every video project I've ever done. High quality and very simple to use. Whether you've just started out in the busy or have been doing this for years, you'll not be disappointed. 5

[Synthesizer] This is an update to a previous review; Roland proactively contacted me based on my previous feedback (quoted as originally written below) and has done a great job of making things right and standing behind their product. Roland Technical Support was prompt and professional in exchanging the defective unit we had received initially for a replacement unit; in addition to the manufacturer's own burn-in and testing period, we've used the replacement switcher on some fairly hot days outside and the it has been stable. The surface of the switcher still gets noticeably warm, but no further crashes or instability have been reported from the field, and it does a great job of being a simple yet powerful little switcher. It's not without a few quirks and default settings that should always be checked - most notably, the sleep timer that isn't disabled by default - but it's a great value and for simple jobs, nice and easy to just setup and go compared to anything else in this price range. ORIGINAL REVIEW FROM 4/10/17, which this review replaced: Except for the fact that it has repeatedly overheated, in the middle of a show, dropping all inputs and outputs until it is manually power-cycled, it's a fantastic piece of gear. Until Roland comes up with a solution / better thermal design in hardware, it's probably best to stick with the older, more stable V-1HD and spend the money you'll save on a few SDI/HDMI converters.... 5
