Standard zoom is designed for FX-format Nikon Z-mount mirrorless cameras but can also be used with DX models where it provides a 36-75mm equivalent focal length range.

Three aspherical elements are used to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion in order to realize sharp imagery with accurate rendering.

Two extra-low dispersion elements greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range in order to produce greater clarity and color rendering.

Super Integrated Coating suppresses flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.

Stepping motor delivers impressively smooth, quiet, and fast autofocus performance that is well-suited to both stills and video applications.

Retractable design maintains a sleek 2.9"-long form factor when the lens is not in use, making it well-suited for travel applications.

Programmable Control Ring is, by default, set to adjust manual focus but can also be used to control aperture or exposure compensation.

Specialized electromagnetic aperture mechanism provides greater exposure control stability that is especially beneficial when working with fast continuous shooting rates.

Rounded seven-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

Dust- and moisture-resistant lens barrel benefits the lens' use in inclement conditions.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Could be used directly in the Z 50 camera?

A: Yes this lens is fully compatible with the Z50.

Q: 2. Why is the aperture range so limited/bad, compared to say af-s 28-300 f3.5-5.6? They say z mount offers more light to come in, so why this lens is so poor;y designed?

A: I'm not sure why Nikon didn't produce a faster lens on the tele end but the Z cameras are better in low light compared to most DSLR's but I suppose to keep the cost down.

Q: 3. Can this lens be use with the Nikon Z7?

A: Yes, the Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR Lens, will work perfectly on the Nikon Z7.

Q: 4. How does the aperture change with the focal length? (at 24mm, 28mm, 35mm and 50mm)

A: Aperture or F-stop is is calculated relative to the focal length of the lens. The formula is, focal length of the lens divided by the optical diameter of the lens. at 24mm the diameter is 6 = f4 The optical diameter can change as you zoom based on design. In this lens 50mm the diameter is 7.9 = f6.3 Note this is illustration is just to explain how we get f stop numbers I don't know the technical design of the lens.

Q: 5. 2. This lens has VR. Nikon Z6 have the VR system in the sensor. How those two VR systems will work together?

A: Z mount lenses with VR will add an axis to the vibration control. This gives the camera a 5 stop rating.

Q: 6. Is the bayonet mount ring on the back of the lens made of plastic or metal?

A: From our display model, the mounting ring on the lens is made of plastic.

Q: 7. Is the plastic mount ring durable and strong enough to be used for a long time?

A: Yes, the following item is durable and strong enough for heavy usage.

Q: 8. Does this lens have an AF/M switch between Manual and Auto Focus?

A: This lens does not have an AF/MF switch on the lens.

Q: 9. Does this lens require the Nikon FTZ Mount Adapter?

A: No, this lens is made for the Nikon Z Mount cameras.

Q: 10. Does this lens require use of the Nikon FTZ Mount Adapter?

A: No, it's native to the Nikon Z cameras.

[Autofocus] I was originally going to convert my DX lenses to use on my new Nikon Z fc but after seeing how compact the Z lenses are, I decided to just go for the Z engineered lenses and I’m happy I did. This works great on the smaller body fc camera. It

[Autofocus] Unless you need a wide aperture 50 for bokeh, this 50 is excellent: sharp, fast AF, *AND* it zooms out to 24 for beautiful wide angle shots. Then it collapses into itself for carrying: a wonderful lens on my Z7.

[Nikon Z] I'm a big fan of Nikon Z cameras, owning both the Z50 and the Z6ii for which I sold my Z7 to acquire. Wanted that second card slot and don't need 45.6mp. So having used the little Z 16-50 DX pancake lens on BOTH my Z50 and my Z7, and now on my Z6ii, when Nikon announced this FX version of their pancake lens I bought it immediately for my Z6ii. For me, at my 82 years of age, smaller and lighter, AND full-frame are excellent qualities in a lens if the IMAGE quality is there as well, as it is on my DX 16-50mm and DX 50-250mm lenses. And I find the IQ on this new full-frame lens to also be excellent. So I highly recommend all three of these Z lenses. Here's a highly cropped shot I took yesterday of our miniature Golden Doodle, Jazz. Shot indoors without flash at ISO 800, 50mm, f/6.3 at 1/60 second hand held.

[0.765 lb] I bought a Z5 for snapshots at parties and for walkabouts. When I get serious, I use my D850. With this in mind, my Z5 with this lens mounted fits nicely into a MegaGear case for an easily carried photography tool with all the focal length for taking photos at social gatherings. It is sharp and the focal length range is fine for this purpose.

[52 mm (Front)] I have the Nikon Z8. I have two lens it for it. The 24-200 and then 180-600. The two cover all photos I wish to take. The 24-200 is nicely compact and has excellent light reception.

[7, Rounded] Sharp enough for most work except when shooting into the sun, does get a lot of flare on wide. It’s good if you only take one lens.

[Nikon Z] There were several other online retailers that offered the Nikkor lens that I needed; however, I chose to purchase it from B&H because I trust them. I have not been disappointed.

[Full-Frame] I can not get over the picture quality coming from this little guy. If you can live with the aperture and focal range, you will not be disappointed. From 24 to 50mm, it equals the IQ of my 24-70, and 24-120, with out any noticeable space or weight gain in my kitbag. When most of the day is planned for wide or telephoto, you can not go wrong if you add this little guy in your bag, for the unexpected.
