The OWC Aura N2 uses a Silicon Motion SM2263XT controller and QLC V-NAND memory technology and supports standard S.M.A.R.T. and TRIM functionality.

This drive is compatible with the following Mac laptops: MacBook Pro 15" Mid 2015, 2014, and 2013; MacBook Pro 13" Early 2015, 2014, and 2013; and MacBook Air 13" Mid 2017, Early 2015, Early 2014, and Mid 2013. [1 TB] I chatted with OWC to make sure I had the correct drive. Make sure you have backed up the drive and have the right tools to open the machine. I used Time Machine on the mac and bought a $7 tool kit separately. Leave it overnight for the backup. Then my machine needed more time to catalog photos. 5

[1 TB] My Mac was just barely usable before. Now it's wide awake! Installation was very straightforward. The supplied tools worked great. Formatting the new drive is a little tricky-Apple's online disk utility didn't work for me. But I was able to use an old hard drive for the installation. 5

[1 TB] I couldn't figure out how to revise my original review, so in all fairness I'm writing another. After much thought regarding my original unit that ultimately failed, I've come to the realization that I might have zapped the SSD while handling it on that dry November day. I failed to use my ESD strap and therefore might have paid the price. I replaced it with the same model and it works fine with expected data transfer rates. 5
