The 7artisans 35mm f/5.6 Pancake Lens for Nikon Z Blackfrom 7artisans 35mm f/5.6 Pancake Lens for Nikon Z Blackis a compact full-frame lens for Nikon Z-mount cameras that makes carrying a camera on the go simple. The optical structure of five elements in four groups, with two ED ultra low dispersion glass elements, effectively reduces the chromatic aberration and renders virtually no color distortion. The maximum f/5.6 aperture provides a wide range of depth of field, soft blur effect, an exquisite circular spot, with minor vignetting for a vintage look. Focus is manually adjusted, providing a close focus distance of 11.8".

The compact, pancake form factor makes it possible to fit a camera body and lens into a large pocket or a shoulder bag, and an integrated lens cover protects the front element from grime and damage.

[f/5.6] It took a perfect storm of life developments for me to fall in love with this lens. When I bought it a couple years ago, I'd only shoot raw. When I took pics with this camera, I was frustrated by how little detail I got when compared to my more professional lenses. I loved the form factor and integrated lens cap, but I just couldn't really get into it. Then I had a child and I wanted to get the pictures backed up asap and not spend time editing them in lightroom. So it was on to JPEGS when taking casual photos. THEN Panasonic updated the S5ii firmware to support LumixLab and added the option to set a dedicated LUT button on the camera. Suddenly, I could add dozens of LUTS to grade my JPEGs in camera and have great looking photos without fuss.

So on a recent trip to New Orleans, I wanted to take pictures without lugging around my big Lumix 50mm, plus I wanted to really try my hand at some street photography, so I thought I'd give this another shot. I loaded up a bunch of Kodak film emulation LUTS and added some luma grain to really drive home the old school film camera look. I set the focus to infinity, set my camera to aperture priority and just let er rip. It was so freeing not worrying about aperture, shutter speed, or focus. If I had to crank the ISO, I didn't mind if it added grain. I didn't mind that most things weren't in focus. It was purely about getting shots. Snap a few and pop it right back in my bag.

I used to be upset about what this camera isn't, but now I love it for what it is. Sometimes people think of star ratings as comparing all lenses against one another. I think that's silly. This lens is wonderful as a 100 dollar pancake. It's so smartly designed and fun to use. I now carry it everywhere.

[Full-Frame] It's a very solid build, super cool retro look, and nice optics. I use it for portraiture and street photography. As expected, a 1.2 lens is a bit soft when fully open but sometimes that's a nice effect.

[Nikon Z] I am a super kook when it comes to photography but these lens over delivers.

[Manual Focus] I had to have this lens for the bokeh it can produce. Add close up filters and the background becomes soft and painterly. Even at f/1.2 I get a sharp center to work into my composition. It's not optically perfect but that's what makes it fun and ignites creativity. I look forward to shooting more with it.

[f/5.6] this lens makes traveling with the m8 easy. there is no discernable weight difference between the lens and the body than the lens alone. the lens is sharp to magnification and is just easy to use.

[f/5.6] I like this little inexpensive lens. I was looking for a single lens to mount on my Sony Alpha a-6000 for casual, all purpose photography when I don't want to carry my whole camera bag. I wanted a fast lens for low light. My expectations were not extremely high. As others mentioned, wide open it's fairly soft, but close it down a bit and it produces very acceptable results. The feel is nice and tight on the focus and aperture rings, but not too tight. The retro look is a nice bonus.

[f/5.6] This reminds me of shooting on a holga or fun toy camera. Lens does however have a really solid feel to it even if the optics are not G master or L series level.

[Full-Frame] I was expecting something like my LOMO LC-A. Which I would have loved... but this lens is actually far sharper.

Easy to focus if you put on focus peaking on the Z 6. Fun, small, makes for a tiny street camera feeling. LOVE IT.
