This Freewell Magnetic ND 1.5 Filter 62mm 5-Stopfrom Freewell Magnetic ND 1.5 Filter 62mm 5-Stopis an ND filter with a 64x filter factor that provides a 5-stop exposure reduction. The filter's 1.5 density darkens the entire image area without affecting the image's coloration, allowing the photograph to be made with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than is usually required. Widening the aperture allows for finer control over depth-of-field to help isolate the image subject or increase bokeh. Slowing the exposure time increases blur and conveys movement more easily.

Each surface of the filter is multicoated to help eliminate internal ghosting and reflections. In addition, it features a resistance coating to repel oil, dust, and scratches, offering greater protection to the filter when working on location in harsh environments. The coatings are also hydrophobic, resulting in an improved beading effect when in contact with water or oil for easier cleaning and maintenance. The aluminum filter ring also includes 62mm front threads, permitting the use of screw-on filters with 62mm rear threads.

This filter is designed specifically for photography applications. This filter is not suitable for direct solar viewing with the naked eye, including with optical viewfinders.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I have a 55mm and a 67 mm diameter lens. could I use a step down adapter along with 58-77 mm Revoring. Or would you have other suggestions?

A: The H&Y Filters RevoRing Variable ND3-ND1000 & Circular Polarizer Filter (67-82mm) will fit on your lens with 67mm filter threads. To use it on your lens with 55mm filter threads, get the Sensei PRO 55-67mm Brass Step-Up Ring. Here is the link: https://bhpho.to/3XoPeoY.

Q: 2. Is this filter showing some kind of pattern when going to higher ND stops?

A: No this does not. It has stops to make sure one does not go beyond the usable range of the filter.

Q: 3. Is there a 95mm version of this filter?

A: At this moment in time, there are no 95mm variants or accessories. The V2 can only fit on to lenses that are 82mm or below in diameter.

Q: 4. How this fits on lenses with filter sizes from 67-82mm? There is no info here.

A: The H&Y Filters Revoring 67-82mm Variable Neutral Density Nd3-Nd1000 And Circular Polarizer Filter has a patent-pending variable and tough retractable blade technology designed to allow the filter to fit any lens with filter thread sizes between 67 - 82mm without the need of adapter rings or step-up rings. You would twist the outer edge of the Revoring and the threads expand or contract to connect to the filter threads on the front of your lens.

Q: 5. Can you mount a filter to the Revoring?

A: No. There is no way to add a threaded filter to the front of the H&Y Filters RevoRing Variable ND3-ND1000 & Circular Polarizer Filter (67-82mm).

Q: 6. Are you able to attach a closeup diopter to the front of this system? If so, what is the front mm thread size?

A: The Freewell V2 Magnetic Hybrid Variable ND with Circular Polarizer Filter (3 to 7-Stop) does not have front threads, so you cannot mount a close-up diopter to the front.

Q: 7. Will Attach a magnetic filter like the K&F magnetic 82mm filters?

A: The H&Y Filters RevoRing Variable ND3-ND1000 & Circular Polarizer Filter (67-82mm) is a screw on filter and not magnetic.

Q: 8. Do you know if there is a Matte box that can be used in conjunction with this?

A: In terms of the Freewell V2 Magnetic Hybrid Variable ND with Circular Polarizer Filter (3 to 7-Stop), You will not be able to use a screw on Matte box however you can use a universal matte box that utilizes a rail system.

Q: 9. I have 2 questions. 1: Does this filter have a front thread to attach another filter, like a mist filter? 2: Can I stack other revorings? Lets say I want to use the 82-95 VND on a 77mm lens, can I use one of their step up/down rings with this 82-95mm VND here?

A: The H&Y Filters RevoRing Variable ND3-ND1000 & Circular Polarizer Filter (82-95mm) does not have front threads. So with that specific filter you can not stack.

Q: 10. Does this product have filter threads on front for attaching something like a mattebox?

A: The H&Y Filters RevoRing Variable ND3-ND1000 & Circular Polarizer Filter (67-82mm) does not have front filter threads.

[0.375 lb] I purchased this for a friend who shoots a lot of interviews with his Nikon Z6. He has reported back to me he is very happy with the bokeh he is able to produce by being able to open up his prime lenses. The optical and build quality is exceptional in comes with a magnetic case for protection.

[0.375 lb] I bought this to experiment taking outdoor portraits with OCF without using the HSS feature on my Godox strobes. HSS uses a lot of power from the battery, so avoiding that issue was important to me. The Freewell VND filter has been well received. I didn't want to invest too deeply, so this product fit my budget. I bought the 77mm size because that is the largest size I would need. I have another lens with just a 72mm filter size, so I'll get a step-up ring for that. The filter seems well made and I like the hard stops for the different densities. The magnetic lens cap is working fine so far, although others have concerns about how long it will hold over time. I do not have mirrorless cameras, so I'll have to work with live view. My concern is focus accuracy when using wider apertures. Worst case is to have to set the focus with the filter set to its weakest effect, and then close it down prior to the actual exposure. My only negative about this filter is the absence of front filter threads. I would prefer to be able to use the lens hood. The lenses feel naked to me without one. Other than that, I feel that the Freewell product is a good balance between quality, value and price. I might add that I bought the standard vs the mist version. If I want a slightly softer image, I can add it later in post if desired.

[62 mm] This vari-ND is really useful for filming movies with the A7sIII so you can keep the aperture and shutter speed consistent and adjust exposure by turning the ND filter even while filming. The hard-stops are great for staying within the parameters and the included magnetic metal lens cap works better than the plastic pinch style lens caps. Highly recommended. I bought a second one for my other A7sIII.

[Aluminum] Searching for quality ND filters can be an endless journey. They range in price from around $30 to well over $200 each. Of course, like many people, I thought about getting Peter McKinnon ND filters. But, the problem with any product named after someone, the price is usually higher based on who the person is.

When it came time to invest in higher quality ND filters, I knew I'd be paying a lot more than usual. Then one day, while searching for ND filter reviews on YouTube, I came across one for Freewell. So, I took the chance and bought a 2-5 stop variable ND filter by Freewell. It cost $109. Which was way more than I've paid in the past, yet substantially cheaper than the $249 ND filters branded as Peter McKinnon.

Suffice it to say, I am extremely happy with my choice. I've gone on to buy more ND filters and a Polarizing filter from Freewell. I don't experience any vignetting or strange color shifts.

I highly recommend Freewell filters. I think you will be happy with the results.
