The 2 to 5-stop, 82mm Freewell Mist Edition ND Filter Kit 82mm Bright Dayfrom Freewell Mist Edition ND Filter Kit 82mm Bright Dayis an 82mm, variable 2 to 5-stop neutral density filter that incorporates a 1/8 VND layer of mist diffusion. The filter darkens the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than is usually possible to reduce the depth of field or extend shutter speeds to increase image blur. When shooting video content, it allows for finer control of frame rate, exposure, and depth of field. The degree of density is controlled by rotating the front filter ring, which offers numbers representing the different stop values and haptic feedback clicks when reaching a number. The integrated 1/8 VND reduces the look of digital sharpness and enhances light bloom without sacrificing overall sharpness. [Unthreaded] The build quality on these filters is excellent. There is almost no wiggle in the rings when at either end of the adjustment range, and the rotating action is very smooth. A little hard to tell from the photos, but the filters are VERY thin. The magnetic lens caps are a nice touch, and sit quite firmly. I'm not at all worried about knocking them off, carrying between shots, in and out of vehicles, etc. When tightened onto the filter ring of my lens, the numbered markings line up roughly with the top and bottom of the lens, which is handy... but bear in mind, the numbers do not seem to correlate with true stops, for exposure purposes. They act only as a fairly arbitrary frame of reference. In terms of color, there is a bit of a shift as you move through the stops. This is present in all variable ND's to a certain extent, but I can say these are some of the best I've used in this price range. There is a slight green shift on both, and on my set, it seems to be most apparent in the 2-5 stop filter, shifting somewhat warm as you increase the density. Something to keep in mind if you need to change density mid-shot, which could potentially complicate a color grade in post. There is very little loss in sharpness. Cheaper alternatives will often turn your image kind of muddy, but these seem to hold up pretty well. Lastly, I know these are not the cheapest on the market, but it's nice to see they have included decent hard cases (fairly compact and portable, I might add), along with some very smartly designed magnetic lens caps. Not an issue if you have a system for other filters when you're on the go, but just as they come, I'm not worried at all about protecting the filters when they are on or off of the lens. 5

[Glass] This filter is very nice. It has a good quality feel to it. There is a slight greenish color cast but it's super easy to correct with custom white balance. I bought a step up ring so I could use with my 85mm and my 50mm and it was a great choice. The hard stops are fantastic too. 5

[Glass] These are incredible. Putting one of these on your lens feels like it elevates your look to a whole new level. I also love the click feature so that you know exactly what stop you're using. The magnetic lens cap is also a small detail that I appreciate. 5
