Featuring an aluminum frame with small built-in magnets, the Kolari Vision IR Hotspot Filter for Canon RF Camerasfrom Kolari Vision IR Hotspot Filter for Canon RF Camerassecures magnetically to the camera lens mount, and your lens then mounts on top. The filter sits securely between the camera and lens. It's compatible with the Canon EOS R, R5, R6, and RP. Specifically for the Canon RP camera, a mag mount accessory is included. The Canon RP doesn't have the steel elements necessary to support the magnetic attachment of this filter. The mag mount has adhesive strips that provide a solution.

Designed for full-spectrum modified or IR-dedicated cameras, this HSK filter removes hotspots that may result in IR photography. A hotspot is like a small circle in the middle of the image, appearing as if caused by reverse vignetting. Hotspots happen when you use lenses that don't prevent them, lenses that aren't necessarily ideal for IR photography. This filter enhances such lenses to remove hotspots. It achieves this by using very specific IR coating combined with a 4-stop ND factor.

The filter material is glass. A small removal tool is included but not required. The compact tool looks like a guitar pick and is included just in case, as the filter can easily be removed by hand. This clip-in filter can also be used in combination with the optional Kolari Canon RF to EF Drop-In Filter Adapter, which secures to the camera and holds a drop-in filter. When the clip-in filter is used together with the drop-in filter adapter, you can use two filters at the same time.

Q: 3. would it achieve any result on a normal camera? (not full spectrum)

A: A full spectrum modification is required to be made to your camera. This entails manually removing the camera's low-pass filter and replacing it with a clear filter. Once that's done, this filter will work as intended. (Kolari Vision can make the modification for you at a cost if you send in your camera to them.) It will not work without removing the low pass filter.

A: Kolari Vision does not list the reason, but checking the Kolari Vision IR Chrome Lens Filter does not come in 46mm size. You can get a larger size and use a step up ring. Like this filter, https://bhpho.to/3HlbjMQ and one of these step up rings, https://bhpho.to/3OdE1Uu.

[Dedicated] I'm not sure how long rear filters have been around, but this is absolutly groundbreaking for astrophotography, as well as other purpose filters ie: Polarizer, Neutral Density, B&W, etc. So much easier, and cheaper, than purchasing numerous front filters and the smudges and dust they attract, not to mention the space those velcro filter holders take up in your gear bag. I'd rather have room for another lens (or two). Simply cover your lens with a UV/protection filter. Lastly, these rear filters are simple and easy to change out. I'll personally just use one camera for astrophotography and will buy a rear Polarizer filter for one of my other cameras for daylight shooting.

[IR Control Only] I recently ordered this to have more options when shooting with a full-spectrum converted camera. It's great to be able to do false colour infrared without needing to use channel mixing in post production. It also opens up a wider range of treatments in the resulting files. I think it's my new favourite IR look.

[IR Control Only] This filter is easy to put in and easy to remove. The mounting mechanism works really well and the all metal construction is very durable. The filter itself is high quality and works very well. Kolari customer service is also fantastic.

[Multi Coated] Infrared takes a hole lot of experimenting. If you convert a camera I would say make a Full Spectrum Conversion. After that a full set of filters to se your options. This filter is one of the most user friendly filters you can get for it. Have fun with it if you get it.

[Dedicated] I've been using the Kolari Vision IR Chrome Lens Filter on my IR full spectrum modified Sony a7iii with the 24mm G-Master lens. In order to achieve the vibrant red foliage colors with realistic blue skies and other colors, it is critical to have the correct custom white balance. At least with the Sony this required some experimentation as the usual gray card setting makes green foliage more orange than red (see photo), and this is very hard to correct in Lightroom. With my Sony, getting vibrant red foliage pushed the hues of other colors off a bit. Your experience may differ as I'm betting it's a function of the color algorithms in the specific camera being used. I did find that desaturating all color channels except blue can be any easy way to get b&w IR images with nice blue skies (see photo). Like all filters, plan to play with it a while to see how it affects your images under various circumstances.

[Aluminum] I have only tested this filter on my Lifepixel-modified Canon R6 (v1), but I like it already. It produces some really interesting color combinations that my other Lifepixel IR filters do not. Samples below are with custom white balance in-camera.

[Dedicated] Filter really makes a bold difference in astro imaging. Noting that the lens sun hood doesn't fit over the knurled edge of the filter. I can live with it since a sun hood is rarely needed at night... if I were to use this filter for artistic reasons during the day I might have another thought

[Multi Coated] I love the colors; the filter snaps into the Canon adapter and fits snugly. The Vari ND wheel spins somewhat freely, similar to the canon version. I wish it had some more tension on the wheel so it would feel more solid. But in no way effects the performance, it's superior to the canon in my opinion.
