The Kolari Vision UV Bandpass Filter for Canon EF-EOS R Adapterfrom Kolari Vision UV Bandpass Filter for Canon EF-EOS R Adapteris compatible with the EF to EOS R drop-in filter adapter from Kolari or Canon. It's designed to work with a full-spectrum modified camera for true UV photography, skin damage analysis, forensic analysis, astrophotography, and other uses. Unlike many third-party UV filters that use interference coating, this one features absorption-based glass, doing away with the problem of inconsistent color across the frame.

The filter has a 50% transmission peak at 365nm, and >25% transmission in the 340-380nm range for high transmission. Average out of band rejection is >OD 4.3 (0.005%), with a minimum rejection of>3.5 OD (0.025%), so there is a high signal to noise ratio and no IR contamination.

The frame is aluminum and the optics are glass with AR/AS coatings. The filter has a wide grip and offers a lanyard attachment point for your convenience.

This filter requires a full spectrum modification to be made to your camera in order to function properly. This entails manually removing the camera's low-pass filter and replacing it with a clear filter. Once that's done, the filter will work as intended. (Kolari Vision can make the modification for you at a cost if you send in your camera to them.)

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is there a version of the adapter that would work for RF to PL lenses and takes in the same filters?

A: There are no lens adapters for adapting RF lenses to any other mount.

Q: 2. Does this filter maintains communications with the camera body? Autofocus?

A: The Kolari Vision RF to EF Drop-In Filter Adapter with VND, CPL & Clear Drop-In Filters does support camera to lens communication including autofocus.

Q: 3. Is this clip in filter 12nm or 7nm?

A: The only information Kolari Visions lists on the Kolari Vision UV/IR Cut H-Alpha Pass Magnetic Clip-in Filter for Canon RF-Mount Cameras is, https://bit.ly/3GUpzNi .

Q: 4. Is this Kolari filter actually compatible with the Canon brand ef-rf drop-in filter adapter?

A: Yes the The Kolari Vision VND Drop-In Filter is a 2 to 10-stop variable ND filter compatible with the EF to EOS R drop-in filter adapter from Kolari or Canon. So it can fit either brand of the drop in adapter.

Q: 5. Will the EF-EOS R adapter functionally increase the F stops of a lens?

A: Short answer: f is not affected. The "original" (unadapted EF lens on a DSLR camera) focal length and opening of the lens are not changed. Long answer: The new RF lens mount has a shorter flange focal distance (distance between rear objective lens and camera sensor) of 20mm compared to the flange focal distance on the EF mount (44mm). The mount adapter is simply a metal tube or spacer that restores the 44mm flange focal distance, so that the EF lens can be used on the RF body.

Q: 6. will the Canon lens extender EF 2x II work with the EF-EOSR5? any impact on video focus. using a ef70-200mm

A: Yes if you have the EF-RF adapter and on that you mount a Canon 2X teleconverter and the Canon 70mm-200mm f/2.8 the focusing is still fast and almost flawless.

Q: 7. Im confused by the pricing. Is it correct? All of the adapters appear to have the same base features yet the ones with extra features (eg w/ filters or w/ control ring) cost less than the one without. The basic adapter is $399 while the one with an included polarizer is $99. Thats a lot to pay for less than 1oz less weight. There must be some other difference not described. Can you clarify? Thanks

A: It appears this pricing is incorrect. From numerous sources I've seen, this adapter should be priced at $99.99, with the control ring version priced at $199.99. The two with drop-in filters should be priced at $299 and $399 respectively, with the more expensive version having a variable ND filter vs a circular polarizer.

Q: 8. Is this compatible with the Canon R8?

A: The Kolari Vision RF to EF Drop-In Filter Adapter with CPL Drop-In Filter is compatible with the Canon EOS R8 Mirrorless Camera and lenses with a Canon EF mount.

Q: 9. How firm is the adjustment wheel? Is it loose like the Canon drop-in ND?

A: The adjustment wheel on the Kolari Vision RF to EF Drop-In Filter Adapter with CPL Drop-In Filter works as required.

Q: 10. What size of drop-in filter does this take?

A: The Kolari Vision RF to EF Drop-In Filter Adapter with VND, CPL & Clear Drop-In Filters only fits the included drop in filters. For other types of filters, a front filter is recommended depending on the lens.

[UV] Great to have a non-variable ND option for Canon drop in filter style.

[Multi Coated] Its almost magic. Se what your eyes can't see. Thats what this filter does in a full conversion camera, a tripod and a photographer capable of working with tools that are not for everyone. But if you pay what it costs and wait for it to be back ordered you are more than likely a committed photographer already. The filter can be used in a lot of scientific uses but I got it once I converted a full frame DSLR with still a lot of life ahead to full spectrum and got a very large set of filters to get the most of it shooting infrared and UV photography. So far it's been a great way to open new possibilities on creative photographic exploration.

[Glass] 4 stop ND but as advertised. Know exactly how many stops used rather than VND with imprecise wheel.

[Multi Coated] This is not a filter to have just for fun. First of all it requires you to have a Full spectrum conversion on your camera. Second of all it is for a very specific use and its price is no joke, so if you don't need it I would spend my money on something else I would use more. But in my case it's been a blast. I will use a lot more my converted camera now that I have it, and just getting started with experimenting out of the users manual I have a lot of ideas to work on with this filter.
The filter only lets through UV light so exposure compensation is required and even under bright sun you will more than likely shoot on a tripod, with high ISO using slow shutter speeds. This filter is a tool, not a toy.

[Aluminum] I love the colors; the filter snaps into the Canon adapter and fits snugly. The Vari ND wheel spins somewhat freely, similar to the canon version. I wish it had some more tension on the wheel so it would feel more solid. But in no way effects the performance, it's superior to the canon in my opinion.
