Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How do you clean the rollers or feed mechanism? How do you clean the sensor?

A: This model does not require cleaning like the PowerFilm series units, the film is loaded using a different mechanism, for more information please see our troubleshooting webpage https://www.scanace.com/product/troubleshooting

Q: 2. Is this scanner compatible with Silverfast, like Pacific Image's higher end scanners?

A: Yes, the Pacific Image PrimeFilm 7250 Plus Scanner is compatible with Silverfast like Pacific Image's higher end scanners https://bhpho.to/3wkgMCY.

Q: 3. I have Kodachrome slides in mounts that need to be scanned. Do I have to remove the mount on every slide?

A: The Pacific Image PrimeFilm XA Plus Scanner is capable of scanning 135 mounted slides, so you don't have to remove the mount.

Q: 4. Pull entire uncut roll 120 through scanner? Other software control options such as Silverfast? I need manual exposure control.

A: The Pacific Image PrimeFilm 120 Pro Plus Scanner has a 120 tray for cut 120 film. So the film will need to be cut to fit the tray.

Q: 5. What are the differences between this new model and the old model that it replaced?

A: The XA Plus has upgraded internal chips that make it scan up to 2.3 times faster and render colors better, also it has better USB 3 connectivity,

Q: 6. Does this software work with both Mac and PC computers?

Q: 8. Is there any way to use this device to scan APS negatives?

A: The Pacific Image PrimeFilm XA Plus Scanner does not have a holder for APS film, though you should be able to scan without one. Since the APS negatives are smaller, you would have to crop out the negative space in post. Alternatively, you can use a standard photo scanner, like the Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner (B&H # EPPV600). https://bhpho.to/3SpxXvL

Q: 9. Will Silverfast software work with this model?

A: Currently Silverfast does not list the Pacific Image XA Plus as a supported model. The scanner comes with CyberViewX5-Plus Software to operate the scanning process.

Q: 10. How well does it keep film flat? I have old uncut negatives that are rolled pretty tight and wonder if this can scan them.

A: Any scanner including the Pacific Image PrimeFilm XA Plus Scanner if the film is rolled and very curled can have an issue. Best is to try to flatten it out under books/weight with out damaging it to get some of the curl out of the film.

[Download] Very convenient to sit down with a ring of slides and just burn through them. Very satisfied with the results of using this scanner to convert old slides into modern digital formats that are easy to use, accurate to the image recorded, and of course much more conveniently browsable on the pc. Software included worked perfectly fine on Windows 11 Pro. (12900k/64gb)

[Download] I bought this to scan 35-year-old slides and it's amazing so far. The infrared dust removal is saving a ton of Photoshop time. Many of the scans looks like where shot yesterday on a top-of-the-line smartphone. Looking forward to seeing what it does with negatives.

[Download] I am more than satisfied with the results of the scans I can get with this device. I found the native software convenient and intuitive. I've found it takes about 30 seconds per exposure with the prescan function (18 minutes for 36 exp) and about 2 minutes for the high-quality scan. I bought additional negative trays so I could quickly cycle through a roll.

[Download] Silverfast, when paired with Epson perfection scanners, is the right tool for a great job. I am working with hundreds of negatives that are nearly a century old yet Silverfast SE has the ability to make (and correct) excellent prints from each neg. Silverfast has a software that fits your scanner.

[Download] Firstly, I have never encountered a product whose reviews differed so much from the actual product.

I purchased this scanner primarily for its Optical Resolution. The software features are practical, easy-to-use, and magnitudes better than reviews suggest.

Use Case - Digitizing several dozen slides and negatives taken in the late 80’s and early 90’s.
All comments are based on scanning at the highest resolution.

PROS

* Both hardware and software features thoroughly complement each other. Slide and negative scanning simply works.

* Truly High-Resolution Scans - Scanning was performed at the highest resolution with TIFF file sizes in the 680-760MB file range.

* CyberViewX (software) is stable and responsive when Pre-Scanning/Scanning slides and negatives at maximum resolution.

Note - My scan times are reasonable at the highest resolution. I suspect some user’s computer hardware are unsuitable for such large data transfers over USB.

* CyberViewX (software) contains a solid set of features for adjusting scan area, color, exposure, and image clean up.

* CyberViewX (software) – “Magic Touch” does an incredible job of removing dust, scratches, specks, etc. from images. (See before/after images)

* Problem-free hardware. The unit behaves as expected with no surprises.

CONS

* Hands down, the weakest part of this product is the user manual. You need only read “Installing Hardware – Step 1” before your first head scratch. It suffers from: 1) poor proofing, 2) outdated software references, and 3) no mention of the newest software features.

* Short-ish USB cable; a longer cable would be nice.

I sat on the PrimeFilmXA fence for quite a while given the poor product reviews. I have been at 4-Stars for a while, but after thoroughly evaluating the ‘Negative Film’ support I am more than comfortable giving this product 5-Stars.

[Download] In the midst of a 4000 plus slide scan project my Nikon scanner was troubled so I purchased the Plustek to finish the last 1500 slides of the project. B&H's quick and prompt service saved the day. The scanner arrived in a couple of days. I was suprized that the latest (9) version of LaserSoft was included. Since with the Nikon LS-5000 I was using VueScan I used VueScan to finish the project - it worked well and without incident. The main difference being the extra IR scan instead of one pass for the Digit Ice & picture capability of the Nikon.
I suggest that B&H mention in their available accessaries that they carry extra film holders for the scanner which is very helpful when doing multiple scans.

[Download] So far I’m very happy with this scanner. It’s easy to use, and the scan quality is quite good. I’m currently using it to scan some 1970s slides, and plan to at some point shoot and scan new slides or negatives. The scanner replaces an old Polaroid scanner that became unusable when my old SCSI Mac finally died. I had kept the old computer solely to run the Polaroid scanner.

Software load and setup for the Plustek is a bit convoluted as others have stated, but once I figured out what to do it went well.

I’m using the Plustek on an Intel Mac Pro running MacOS High Sierra.

Overall, I recommend this scanner to anyone who wants to scan some old slides/negatives, or start playing around with film photography.
