Oben Ac-1431 Aluminum Tripod With Ball Head
  • Product Code: eq9999
  • Availability: In Stock

$359.85 $449.81

The Oben AC-1431 Aluminum Tripod with Ball Headprovides supports up to 8.8 lb, rises to a maximum height of 59.5" with the center column fully extended, and folds down to a compact 21" for transport. Flip locks on the four-section legs facilitate rapid setup and break down. Three leg angles: normal (80°), low (55°) and extra low (24°) are available via angle adjustment tabs at the joint of each leg.

The center column can be reversed with a twist of the butterfly knob, or it can be split in two to be used as a short column for macro and low angle shooting as low as 8.1". Any combination of leg angles can be combined to accommodate uneven terrain, stairs or obstructions. A built-in bubble level helps you square up your compositions. For extra stability the center column employs a spring-loaded counterbalance hook.

The included BA-108 ball head features a single-action lever that controls its rotation and 360 degree panning while a robust ball-locking mechanism secures it solidly. The head's four bubble levels ensure accurate panoramas. The BA-108's built-in quick release comes with a camera plate that features a standard 1/4"-20 screw and a retractable, removable video pin to provide additional stability for camcorders. Since the head is removable, locking screws underneath the collar thwart torsion when re-attaching. The tripod comes with a carry case and shoulder strap for storage and transport.

Q: 8. Will this hold a Nikon D7000 and a 18-200 lens at 90 degrees without any issues?

A: I don't have the exact lens and camera combo that you are asking about but I also have a Nikon body and a medium telephoto lens that I use. I would say yes to your question. The ball head seems quite sturdy and clamping force is more than adequate for the weight of your lens and camera. I continue to be quite pleased with my purchase. I was not expecting a quick disconnect feature with the ball head and was surprised with its inclusion. //JM

Q: 9. Can you change out the head to use a fluid head?

A: Yes. The Oben BA-106A Single Lever Ball Head included with the Oben AC-1321 Aluminum Tripod is removable. The top base of the center column has reversible 1/4"-20 & 3/8"-16 male threads, so if your fluid head has a flat base and uses either1/4"-20 & 3/8"-16 threads, it may be used on the Oben AC-1321 Aluminum Tripod.

Q: 10. I can do that?- the center column becomes removable and reversible for a second method of achieving extremely low-angle shots.

A: Yes. The big wing nut comes off and reverses after you take out the center column.

[Aluminum] For the money this tripod cannot be beat. It's a bit heavy (when compared to carbon fiber), but still great. Easy use and high quality build make this tripod a winner!

[1x 1/4"-20 Male] The ball mount on this thing held a D850 with a Tamron 150-600mm or a Nikon 14-24 f2.8 mounted to it like a boss. The carrying bag is nice but not necessary; I ditched it to save weight when hiking with the tripod. Aldo, hiking with the tripod was a breeze. The padded grips did great protecting my hands from cold metal on 28 degree mornings while they also afforded nice shoulder cushioning when caring things over the shoulder. Did great holding the Magnus GH-M1 gimbal head, as well. All that weight, and it never felt unstable or top-heavy, even with the center extension all the way up.

[5.2 lb] I recently had to purchase a new tripod due to theft, and went with this model over my previously owned AC 1325 with BA106. My last one was still in perfect working condition after 10+ years of dragging it around deserts, beaches, mountains, airports, you name it. The included bag is very helpful when traveling or for storage. I mounted full sized cameras with large lenses, Hasselblads, etc and never had a problem with weight.

I originally purchased the travel series from Oben, and while I preferred the dial knobs of the ball head, the twist lock system of the legs I found to be cumbersome and prefer the latch style of this one. The folded difference in size was negligible for me.

[1x 1/4"-20 Male] As a new, amateur photographer I was looking for a basic affordable aluminum travel tripod and quickly became overwhelmed with the number of choices on the market. Who would have thought there could be so many manufacturers and models? I was willing to pay for a decent one for under $200. After much exhausting research, I had settled on a Mafrotto Befree. I ordered one, but the e-tailer sent me the wrong color -- twice. Yes, twice. They clearly didn't have the color I wanted in stock. I gave up on that retailer and I stumbled across Oben brand on the B&H website. The 1431 appeared to have every feature I wanted at a full 40% less than the Manfrotto's $199 (for black - other awful colors are as low as $150 on the same model -- there is a good reason those colors are cheaper). Features I wanted: 1) flip locks (just quicker for me) 2) quick-release plate compatible with my Fuji XT10 mirrorless Fotga grip. Oben's is actually nicer than the Manfrotto version which I really liked - the Oben 1431 plate snaps in without having to manipulate the plate trigger which is super nice 3) overall sturdy construction 4) weight hook 5) decent ball head 6) lightweight/easy to carry/pack 7) reasonable height 8) black / neutral unobtrusive color. After having to sacrifice one or more of these requirements, I was thrilled to see the Oben hit the mark on ALL of these. I did NOT have to settle for almost everything I wanted. I should mention that it comes with a solid (and nicely neutral/black) shoulder bag that was far nicer than the Manfrotto's awful red, white and black one (bleah). I tested it out when I got it and it works great. I was a little apprehensive ordering a brand that was less covered by various reviews online, but am glad I found it. I am thrilled with my purchase. A perfect tripod for my particular needs at a price that is tough to beat. I rarely write a review; I hope this review is helpful!

[4] I use this tripod as my tripod for taking long exposure shots and in my house. It's a great nifty tripod and is very light for the size. The ball head is great and very fluid. My only gripe is that I wish it could be a tad smaller but hey for the price you can't complain. The carry bag is also a great touch!

[24.5 x 5 x 5"] Shipping was fast. It's a great buy. it's well built nice and sturdy. The ball head is smooth and the quick plate is secure feeling. Only issue (which its not a huge deal) is you have to loosen the whole ball head mechanism to use the 360 pan feature. Which can leave your camera loose or cause drift especially with a larger lens. No biggie just a minor inconvenience. Love this whole set up though well worth it.
